Drawn and Quartered Updated
If you don't already have Hess & Northrop's "Drawn and Quartered: The History of American Political Cartoons," this will be a valuable addition to your collection. "American Political Cartoons: 1754 - 2010" is an updated version of the 1996 book.If you do already have "Drawn and Quartered," you will find that image quality is better in the older book. (D&Q is hardcover with glossy paper, so the quality certainly ought to be superior to this softcover edition.)"American Political Cartoons: 1754 - 2010" doesn't merely add cartoons about the Bush 43 and Obama administrations. The rise of the internet and its challenge to print media was noted in D&Q; the theme is expanded in the new book. Another welcome addition is the attention paid to cartoonists of color. The perspective of female cartoonists is acknowledged in both books.

Very interesting book. It has a good history of political cartoons from the beginning of the United States until now. I have enjoyed it a lot.

Cartoons are great but the image quality is atrocious
Cartoons are great but the image quality is atrocious. One can't read the words in many of the cartoons. Most of the pre 1900 cartoons are a mess of fuzziness.

Excellent History
An amazing and valuable collection. As a history teacher, I can think of no better way to guide students toward understanding and appreciating the essence of the development of American social and political thought than through an a journey such as is presented here. There is a 'street sense' nature to political cartoons that distills the complex into bite-size articulate chunks. This is a well done collection. Enjoy! Well worth the cost of admission.

Wonderful History, Great Fun
I used American Political Cartoons as a Christmas present for six friends. They loved it. It's intelligent and clever, covering 200 years of events that shaped America. These are the cartoons I used to clip and stick on my refrigerator. Now I've got them in a book.
