Simple recipes with wonderful African wisdom. Highly recommend!!
I love this cookbook, and all of her work.Very simple(mostly 4-7 ingredients) recipes, with amazingly touching proverbs for each.Gifted to a friend who is RPCV(Returned Peace Corps Veteran) - Botswana. He's a decent cook, but he doesn't like things complicated.Perfect gift!!

Authentic, simple and delicious
I have enjoyed Annette Miller's previous proverb books, and this one is my favorite so far. The recipes are typical of the foods one gets in traditional African homes: meat and vegetable stews, mung bean, sukuma wiki(kale), ugali, ugi (thin porridge), mandazi. She includes measurements in Cups and Teaspoons and Tablespoons for those of us who need such things. The recipes I have tried are delicious. She gets her spices right. I like the layout of the book, with a proverb for each recipe. This makes a great practical gift book for my visitors to Kenya, who always want recipes for traditional foods they eat here.

Simple and lovely!
Having grown up in Tanzania and Kenya, I miss the foods and flavors. This delightful book matches easy and delicious dishes from around Africa with pithy proverbs. Many of the recipes can be made with ingredients in your kitchen right now...no need to visit the specialty market for exotic items! Thank you, Mrs. Miller, for capturing the spirit of African cooking. I recall, as you do, the "joy of sharing whatever food one has".

Excellent Recipes! We cook them every week!
My husband is from Cameroon and I am American. My husband ordered this book, and we use it every week. We have a few favorite recipes such as the recipe with kale, coconut milk, and lamb. It is our favorite dish! Thank you to Ms. Miller for helping me learn how to cook African recipes!
