The Holy Kabbalah (Dover Occult)

The Holy Kabbalah: Another Outstanding Work by the famous Arthur Edward Waite!
This is easily another great book by Arthur Edward Waite, who was easily able to turn out academically sound books in the occult. This is a huge tome about the history of the Kabbalah, and is a must have for anyone specifically interested in the Kabbalah, or is interested in the occult. in general. In fact, if you've read several books in the occult, you should be familiar with A. E. Waite. He had a prodigious output during his life span, and you can count on the soundness of his work. This volume, like all his work, has a great many footnotes to make it academically sound, and a great doorway to many other works.

Approved By a Christian
As a Evangelical of the Christian Faith, I am in full favor of this book and it's teachings. Definitely a must read if you are intrigued by Jewish Mysticism and Ritual Magik.

Refreshing
Waite is a genius, and his confidence shines. He wasn't shy to inform his fellows that the Freemasons and other organizations of his time were incorrect to presume that the Kabbalah had anything to do with these groups. At least, initially. Of course, much of what we read now is a mixed bag.

Arrived early and is an excellent scholarly text on the subject a rare find
Arrived early and is an excellent scholarly text on the subject a rare find. This is due to the mass amounts of literature were authors get too caught up in their own opinions on the subject and speak authoritatively in doing so, despite the fact few initiated individuals can provide accurate information on the subject.

The Holy Kabbalah
This book is Great if you already have some understanding about the Kabbalah. If you don't i suggest you read Elizabeth Clare Prophet first.

Appears to be an exhaustive tome on the subject
Just received. Dover published, so thankfully NOT a load of newfangled basement publisher grammar and spelling eye sores. That said, I suspect this text was scanned from the original, and on the scanner were small metal or eraser shavings, as there are small artifacts on most pages that make for distracting annoyances. Also, Dover went a little light with the toner and the paper quality is a bit shoddier than what I'd expect from them. Ah, these .com MBAs will pinch a penny wherever they can for their quarterly bonuses! Don't let these couple things I've mentioned be deal breakers for you though. Overall, it's a sturdy trade paperback, and there is a mountain of research in here. Some, if not most, of it will be of great use to the growing student and/or initiate, and at a fair price. I'm diving in whole heartedly and the current three stars reflect my initial response to Dover's choices only.

An excellent copy
I'm glad I ordered this classic book. Interesting introduction by poet Kenneth Rexroth. Waite's work praised by Gershom Scholem (first chapter of "Major Trends in Jewish Mysticism") and Frances Yates. I am also interested in Harold Bloom's use of Kabbalah in literary criticism.

Differenziert

Waite at his Best
Waite sets out in reasonably simple terms his view of the kabbalistic system and its development. He writes in his own style that can seem strange and long winded, but once it is understood (and appreciated) it becomes an easy read. Nit the book for the faint-hearted beginner and lacking some of the more formal academic works, it is a sound piece of writing.
