11 months without a puncture
Update:Checking the date of my original review (June '21), and now it's May '22, I've not had a single puncture in the rear wheel. So, this product has done its job well, I'd say. In the same period I have had one puncture in the front tyre. Front tyre punctures are rare in my experience - I'd typically expect months and months of rear punctures to a single front puncture. So there it is: only one puncture in the whole time and it was in the non-protected front wheel.Original review:I bought this in 27.5 x 2.25 for the rear wheel of my hardtail mtb because I found myself fixing punctures on every interesting ride.My first attempt to install the Tannus was aborted when I decided that, although my product shouldn't have needed trimming, it seemed that I would need to do it. I read the instructions, watched a video, went to the website and read more (good info on there, so worth a visit). All of it said I should be able to install the armour without modification. In the end, I gave up with bleeding fingers and aching hands. My normal tyre toolkit comprises one plastic lever. For this task, not only was employing two more levers (and they were bending outrageously), but also THREE sprung hand clamps.Meanwhile I waited for a new back tyre. Out with the worn, wired tyre and in with a new, folding tyre. I asked for support (do I trim the item or not?) from Tannus and heard nothing. I sent two more messages and tried phoning, and got nothing. When the tyre arrived, I started another attempt, determined to go for bust without trimming. I succeeded (again using hand clamps), but, frankly, I was concerned for the integrity of my wheel. As a bonus, the tyre levers survived.Immediate first impressions: -1. If I get a puncture out away from base, I cannot carry enough tools to repeat that procedure, and if the weather's against me, I'm double stuffed.2. I've just added a third of a kilo to the weight of my wheel rim. After riding: -1. I'm pretty sure that my standing starts are slower. The first ride seemed more effort than usual. I have since got used to it.2. No punctures, yet, but I haven't been on one of those "interesting" rides, yet. Well, I did go past a known blackthorn bush blackspot unscathed.Note, the product advice is to deflate your tyre between rides in order to stop the armour from compressing. I don't mind this because I have a track pump at home, but worth bearing in mind.Would I recommend it? Too early to say. Like with an earthquake detector, you need an earthquake to know if it works. Thinking now about that, what I need to do is a dry run puncture repair to see how I can get the tube out with my travel toolkit. If I do that and this system allows me, I'll report back.

The perfect solution for punctures
Before trying Tannus, I was 'at the end of my tether'. I seemed to be getting a puncture every 100 miles or so on the Schwalbe Rock Razors I had installed. I became a bit of an expert in fixing punctures both at home and out in the field. I tried Slime, other branded rubber inserts, good quality tubes, pumps, repair outfits, you name it. Then I seen all the rave reviews on Tannus and also the price at £32 per wheel. But as I had already spent a small fortune up to now, I thought well lets give it a shot. One of the best upgrade decisions I have made for my bike by far is the conclusion after three months!I also changed my tyres to Schwalbe Hurricanes, which already have great puncture resistance, and I feel so totally confident now in that I have stopped taking my pump out on rides. I still hear that horrible resonant ping noise every now and then when my tyres shrug off a sharp twig as it tries to get through, but nothing but nothing is going to spoil my ride now thanks to Tannus.I cannot praise this product enough. Just believe me that this WILL remove your puncture anxiety, short of a nail or whatever. There is a knack to installing it though so please look it up on YOUTUBE. All I can say is, make sure you use the central groove in the wheel and maybe use some silicone spray. I had both of my wheels upgraded in 45 minutes. I also did not have to use smaller tubes as has been suggested by others. Again, all I can say is take your time to seat the first rim into the central groove in the wheel and make sure the armour is tucked in correctly, and you should not have any problems. In fact it reduces the risk of pinch punctures. All my extra tubes, pumps and trick tyre levers are now just gathering dust. One of those products I wished I had discovered earlier!

So far so good
I bought these after repeatedly getting puctures on my electric mountain bike from thorns and shards of flint. I have done several outings since with no problems. When you first see them you wonder how on earth they will fit, but if you follow the instructions they do go on quite easily really. I bought new tubes and these were slightly smaller that previous, which I think helped. I also reduced tyre pressure a bit. It is hard for me to judge if they offer more road rolling resistance as it is an e-bike, but overall I haven't noticed any issues. I did use plenty of talc when fitting after reading some of the other reviews which talked of squeaks etc.

So far so good.
I’ve only been using these on an Enduro MTB for a couple of weeks so too early to say if they do prevent punctures. With reduced tyre pressures I feel grip has improved and I haven’t noticed that it’s any harder to pedal uphill. On 27.5 X 2.5 tyres they were not particularly difficult to fit although I had to redo one three times to get the tyre evenly seated/ centred on the rim.Common sense says they should reduce penetration and snakebite punctures. I feel more confident going further off the beaten track although I still take a repair kit and spare tube. They are not too expensive and if they prevent me having to repair even one flat in the wilds on a cold, wet day they will have been worth it.
