American Hair Metal Paperback – October 1, 2006

If you were there, or were listening, or are still there and listening, this book will put a smile on your face; Page after page of quality, colorful pictures and highly amusing quotes by some of the biggest bands of the era; The only thing I wished was that it included more pictures, esp. since there is a huge list at the end of the book w/80's artists not pictured at all, and their one big song. This would include bands like Badlands, Helix, Shotgun Messiah, and Smashed Gladys....To think this book could have been twice the size only makes me think of things that could have been...But this is no skimpy collection; A great book at a great price, LOTS of pics suitable for framing if you were so inclined...And if you weren't ever into metal, there's still plenty to make fun of.Man, did I really used to dress like that?

A relative wanted this as a Christmas present. Found this one at a fair price and liked the speedy delivery. Much appreciated.

Bought this for my mom because she really enjoys 80’s rock. We both read the book, even though it’s mostly pictures, and both of us agreed it’s kind of meh. Most of the photos used in the book you could find online just doing a google search lol. Really thought there would be more detailed interviews and information but just quotes here and there. Was ok to skim though once but wouldn’t bother buying.

This book is full of sweet pictures, I mean it takes me back to when I had my room covered in posters, thousands of staples holes in my walls, Dad always yelling at me for it. Theres information on all the bands, bands you loved, bands who were huge, bands with a one-hit wonder. Theres even some bands you might not of even heard of. This book is a must-have for any die-hard '80's fan. Its rather cheap, plus its has all that useless knowledge and facts, that we crave for. I highly recommend it, you won't be disappointed.

I purchased this as a research book for work. Not only are the quality and price great, but this book is really well put together.Every band from the era is represented, and then some. Nothing is missed. Great photos and hysterical quotes. Out of all of the books I have bought recently for work, this has been by far the most popular and entertaining.

This book has some nice pictures, I'll give it that. What I didn't like was the nearly complete absence of any discussion of Hair Metal as a musical genre. It was all about sex and hair. Any sort of debauchery was highlighted. The paramount feature of Hair Metal was completely omitted, which is that there was a competitive flamboyance - mostly in the guitar department - that resulted in significant advancements in electric guitar technique. The vocabulary of guitar was expanded by hair metal and this is not even mentioned. It says that one of the players, who is well respected and quite visible today, supposedly raped a 14 year old girl in the 80's. I found this hard to believe about this person, so I started researching it. After scouring the web on a zillion searches I found no mention of it at all anywhere, nor were there any credible sources for such a serious accusation in the bibliography. Not recommended.

Loved the pictures and information

Now, I'll admit, American Hair Bands/Rock was not my cup of tea back in day. But Mrs F was/is a big fan - so this was a prezzie for her. As a book it's sturdy, good stitching and spine for a squareish book of this size. The colour pictures are good quality and the printing is clear and easy to read. As a music book don't expect a history of hair bands or any kind of encyclopedia of Hair Rock because that's not what this is. What you do get is a great book of huge colour pics (some quite rare/unusual ones) and a great stories with them. I won't mention the bands that are featured in detail in the book as I don't know them :) Mrs F DID enjoy the book - that was the main thing. So from her point of view... can I recommend this if you're a fan of American hair bands - oh yes! Enjoy :)

Ok so this isnt an encyclopaedia! It has little text in the book but what it does have is BIG COLOURFUL photos from back in the day! Hair Metal isnt supposed to be intellectual, what are they supposed to write about?! It looked good and sounded good.It's mainly full of the kind of stoopid quotes from the bands who were living life to the full!The photos are priceless though!Most of that genre is covered from bands like Ratt and Crue to less well known ones like Wild Boyz and Poison Dollies. People may argue about Stryper not being Hair Metal or such and such is missing but it doesnt matter. This book captures it all is glorious eighties colour!!

Image wise this is an interesting book for people interested in re-creating the big hair and make up styles of metal bands.I've used it more for research rather than to read, though my sister whose into rock music found it an entertaining read and quite fancied some of the guys in it. A fun present for friends into that scene or your mum who used to do a bit of head banging in her time.

Love this book, ideal for anyone like me stuck in the 80's.My favourite genre of music, so loved all the pictures and band info.

Das Buch American Hair Metal von Stephen Blush, einem Musikjournalisten und DJ aus den USA, der bisher schon eine Publikation über "American Hardcore" herausbrachte war für mich als 80er-Metal-Fan einfach ein Muss.Wer mit der Erwartung einer Dokumentation der Zeitgeschichte und Hintergründe der Bands aus der L.A.-Szene an das Buch herangeht wird mit Sicherheit bitter enttäuscht. Alle Aspekte des Hair-Metals wie Sex, Travestie und Kommerz etc. werden in ein kurzen Texten größtenteils kritisch beleuchtet und mit Zitaten der Künstler aufgewertet, die leider manchmal aus dem Kontext gerissen wurden.Gestalterisch bleiben beim Buch keine Wünsche übrig. Alle Seiten zeigen großformatige, qualitativ hochwertige Fotos der Stars und ein klares Gestaltungsraster.Im Großen und ganzen kann ich das Buch allen Hair-Metal-Jüngern empfehlen oder denen die es werden wollen. Einen Stern Abzug von mir dennoch wegen der teilweise zu knapp ausfallenden Texte. Wer jedoch einen Styleguide braucht oder sich einen Überblick über die Szene verschaffen möchte wird mit dem Buch zu 100% glücklich!
