Chock-full of really good bits of information.
This book is chock-full of really good bits of helpfulness. I love that it's written by a nurse. Very good - nurses know how to help people. I zeroed-in on the chapter, Sleep Matters. Since my spinal fusion I have so many problems - sleep is one big issue now. The diversity of the information in this book is amazing. You can pick it up any time - to any page - and start processing good messages of help. We all need to keep our brain sharp. It's the most important part of our body. I like, too, that the chapters are small. The author gets right to the point. This book - I highly recommend!

Inspiring book about ways to keep your mind sharp as you age
This is a very interesting book. It is well written and chock full of lots of useful things to do to improve your life and stave off dementia and other age-related brain diseases. Ms. Sparrmann clearly explains the 60 ways with good examples showing how these things positively impacted different lives and backs this all up with good scientific studies. She also inspires us with stories of seniors and others she has known. I particularly liked the stories about 99-year-old Harriet who continues to work and train others and 92-year-old Ruth who keeps up with technology and social media.

Love this book
Love this book! It’s a perfect daily read providing short, practical, evidenced-based insights. it encourages me to think, and better yet, take action. Hey, it's reality - none of us are getting any younger - our daughters, nieces or friends. I treated myself to this book and now I am getting some for others with the thought of using a chapter here and there to spark a fun and meaningful conversation. Let's talk about some real stuff, with science to back it, that will contribute to us living a healthy, fulfilled and contented life.

Great with lots of facts!
This book includes a lot of facts than can be overwhelming at times. Recommend reading with breaks in between chapters to let your mind soak up all the facts. It has great suggestions on keeping your brain sharp. Never to young to start!

Great book for aging baby boomers
There are millions of baby boomers approaching the age where developing dementia or Alzheimer's is a concern. Sparrman is convinced we can prevent the onset of those diseases or at least delay them for many years. She offers suggestions in four areas of life: physical activity, nutrition, intellectually stimulating activities, and social and spiritual connections.Sparrman shares the results of many studies, yet in a very readable way. Some of the information and suggestions were not new to me. Her section on nutrition included all of the sensible advice we've been reading about for years. She has included a few recipes. We also know we should be walking or doing some other form of activity as we age. I was surprised, however, at the benefits of hiking in nature as opposed to walking in an urban setting. I was also surprised to find out about the friendly microbe beneficial to gardeners. There were also some surprises for me in the social section of the book. There are measurable benefits for families who eat together around a table at least five times a week, for example. I am in a reading group and was pleased to find that such a group participation was one of Sparrman's suggestions, as was journaling. I was also reminded of the high cost of being mad or bitter and of the benefits of being optimistic.I highly recommend this book to readers who are baby boomers and are entering into that age where one is concerned about reduced brain function. This book is very readable, full of facts, and has great suggestions for keeping your brain functioning well. It is a great resource for being a good steward of the body God gave you as well as living a more enjoyable and fulfilling life in general.I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

An engaging and inspiring read!
This book is so much more than a rote list of facts and pamphlet style ideas. Ms. Sparrman shares with us great practical ideas not only to improve our brains and memorys, but how to engage in the world and with others thoughtfully, intelligently, spiritually and with a healthy dose of humor. Ever chapter has facts, good ideas and also a relatable story that comes straight from her heart. It is a book that you can grow and expand with as you move through your life.Loved this book, I often refer to it when I need a little encouragement or a boost to the day.

Not afraid of aging!
This book is engaging, well researched, full of personal nuggets and life stories that kept my husband and I entertained as we read it out loud together. The relationship between physical science and aging, personal history and aging, and spiritual and emotional health related to aging was so integrated. For the first time in my life journey, I'm not afraid of aging! We have already put several hints into practice since reading this book, especially related to physical and mental activity. Great read!
