Unique Slant
The book(s) highlight the ives of the movers and shakers of the 19th Century in the formation of our Country's development - especially the impacts on westward expansion. No other book(s) provide exactly the same coverage, written in intriguing, anecdotal style.

Great book
These fifty short biographies cover an amazing range of Western business leaders and entrepreneurs, from beer to timber, mining to railroads, restaurants to stagecoaches. Extremely well-written, each story is "bite sized." Taken together, you can learn so much about these interesting characters, how they thought, what made them unique, and what they contributed to the opening of the frontier.

A concise assembly of vignettes about those 50 business leaders ...
A concise assembly of vignettes about those 50 business leaders that the author determined to be instrumental in shaping the US West. The profiles could use more color and context to enrich each leader's special place in western history development.

History of Colorado makers and movers.
Living in Denver, this is a must read. The names behind most cities, passes, towns, rivers and parks are outlined in this book. From Boettcher burning his first concrete building (hope I got that right) to Cheeseman building the biggest dam of its type in the world after WW1), the people that shaped the west are brought to life in stories short enough for an ADHD like me to read. Fascinating book. And will make driving the kids to all the travel sports destinations that much more interesting.

Read It Over and Over....
What a Great Book - You can almost tell Mr. Anschutz has studied each of the entrepreneurs in Out Where The West Begins - the characteristics, tenacity, the ability and drive to see what others did not see, do what others are not willing to do, bravery - Wow! These people were tough!A Great Book for anyone interested in studying the character traits of the entrepreneurs who advanced the west.Read it over and over...Thank you Mr. Anschutz

To know the west you must know it's people.
If history in school had been made this interesting I'd have been a history and business major. The only thing missing is Mr. Anschutz' story. I'm sure that anyone who reads "Out where the West Begins" would want a better window into this fabulously successful individual's life and how he meets and works through the very human challenges that his book's subjects and all of us encounter throughout our lives.

A great book for anyone who likes early western businessmen
I chose this rating, because the book delivers what it promises. Anschutz chose the 50 early western leaders well. Great businessmen from different Industries, like cattle and railroading and others. It's a great book for anyone who likes businessbiographies or the history of the west. It's easy to read, never boring. So even if you normally wouldn't read such books, it's a good read.Five Stars out of fiveFor all those who will read it, don't buy the second volume. It's not as good as this one (just my personal opinion)
