I would NOT recommend this kit for beginners!!!! NO way!! In this design the pins to the LCD are around 1.27 mm apart, and that's almost extremely difficult even for the experienced solderer to NOT bridge. THIS is a horrible design. It should've been designed using female pin headers and then plug the LCD into the header pins and NOT solder it directly to the PCB (BAD design), so if using pin headers could remove any bridges and not from the LCD and risk burning it out. I am an experience solderer but I destroyed two of them. I did buy a 3rd one and I used female pin headers to install the LCD. THIS way I wasn't so worried about bridging and have to desolder again and burn out another LCD. If it wasn't for this fact I would've given this item a 5 star because it's a descent package but seriously flawed in the LCD installation method. Many other kits, by other manufacturers use female pin headers so hobbyist don't kill the LCD. This is the correct way Elenco and you know it!!! So caution to the beginner. Good luck.

The completed kit worked fine from the start. It has neither a wide bandwidth, nor great sensitivity, but within those limitations it's a great tool to learn about using an oscilloscope. The menu is easy to use and has just enough options to teach you the basics.Assembly requires care and soldering the display to the circuit board is definitely not for beginners, you'll need a very fine tipped soldering iron for those connections to avoid solder bridges. Also pay attention to the instructions as some components are mounted on the reverse side of the board.It is powered by 4-AAA batteries. I'm still on my first set so I don't know how long they last.

Good educational kit, You need a small tipped 12-15w solder iron and the soldering is not for beginners.
