Good choice.
Summer 2018 our 23-year old air conditioner system's outside 4-ton unit/compressor stopped working. Our York Diamond 90 hi-efficiency furnace would call for cooling, but the outside unit wouldn't kick on. Called the service guy....he came late in the day, found that a wire on the circuit board inside the York furnace had vibrated off (broken). He resoldered the wire back onto the circuit board (control board), charged us an arm and a leg, and while he was finishing up we talked about what problems our outside 4-ton unit usually had, and what I should expect...based on his experience, that is. He said to keep it going as long as I could because 4-ton units cost big-bucks! That's true! He suggested I find, and buy, a "good" exact-as-much-as-possible start capacitor and contactor because they are the usual problems. After he left, I tracked down these credible replacements, and bought them through Amazon, to store for the future. A week later I took the control board out of the furnace (took many pictures to show the wiring) and resolded EVERY connection where external wires went onto the control board. That eliminated a return visit, or a repeat problem that I could take care of proactively. Not surprisingly, that "future" I had planned for came about a month later. Woke up just after midnight and realized it was hot in the house, the registers were blowing air, but not cool air. Darn it.... So....after confirming the outside 4-ton unit was not on at all, there I was at around 4am outside with scoop lights, changing out not only the start capacitor, but also the contactor. Yes.....I kicked off ALL the relevant breakers and disconnects before diving into the unit. Now I've never worked on an outside unit before, so this was a real treat at 4am. But....how hard can it be, right? Well....it wasn't...it just took time....and I took a LOT of pictures of the unit's wiring BEFORE I started ripping the old, spider-infested parts out. At just before 4:45 am BINGO - the outside unit was up and working again! That was a year ago, and it's still going. I turned right around later that morning and bought the same start capacitor and contactor again from Amazon. They are stored for the future...hopefully not at 4 in the morning again.
