Ordered 2 for gifts for my best friend and baby sister
I have had my copy for several years. Ordered 2 for gifts for my best friend and baby sister. Both bird watchers. Love the way it is laid out and the pictures are great. It is so helpful to have the US map to show the birds territory. All bird watches should have this one.

This book has been very helpful as it contains many more species variations that my other books, however, the illustrations do not seem to be represent color accurately most of the time. I recently identified a Tufted Titmouse via another bird book and wanted to compare it to this one - the color was so dark that I would never have known that I was witnessing a Titmouse feeding in our yard.

Nice photos and larger print than most bird books.
Enjoyable book with a paragraph or two of good information on each bird.

Great information!
Bought for my son who is 9. He loves that all the information is on one page and tells what it eats and its habits.

BIRDS FOR LOCKDOWN
One of my great discoveries during the lockdown has been the abundance of American bird cams, usually sited by feeding tables or nests. My favourite belongs to the Cornell Ornithology Lab at Ithaca, New York. There, with the backdroo of a charming little lake, is a bird feeding table that attracts an exotic multitude of birds, ranging from orioles to wonderfully marked woodpeckers. Only very occasionally does a grey squirrel disrupt the proceedings. There are other cameras too, of course, trained on the nests of red tailed hawks, ospreys, bald eagles and humming birds amongst others, at sites from Texas to California. I may say that the Scottish osprey cams, at sites like Loch Garten, have been shut down by the coronavirus. You'll need an American bird book, and I bought an excellent one from Amazon!

Good; but why no reference to Mexico?
The book is great, but I am puzzled that the maps do not include Mexico, even though I believe that Mexico is part of North America?I was specifically looking for references to birds in Mexico as that is where I have been spending time. While some of the specific bird information does refer to birds going down to Mexico the maps and general approach do not. I would suggest that this should be amended in future editions, otherwise the title "North American Birds" is incorrect.

Just Perfect
Excellent book which arrived in perfect condition on time. Great for inspiring water colours and learning more about the incredible world of birds. Ideal for ornithologist specialising in North American birds. Beautifully produced.

Basic book on birding
This book contains some basic information about each bird and a decent summary of the main points about each bird at the bottoom of each page. The maps showing the range of the birds are small and some of them don't appear to be accurate. The pictures of each bird are not actual photos and only has one painting of each bird (usually a male) leaving it difficult to id females based on observation. The Canadian portion of the Travellers' Guide near the end of the book is mainly restricted to Canadian National Parks and doesn't list many of the more popular local birding sites.
