I have rather a lot of books - and there seems to be two assumptions among book case/shelf makers - if you have books you are pretty rich! and your books are very large. It is generally true that most recently published books are larger than Victorian or early 20th century books - with the result that a lot of wall-space is waisted with relatively small books in shelving 14,16 or 18 inches apart. In addition as you occupy wall-space with cases you are left with all sorts of small spaces that cannot be used. I have found the Vida units cheap, easily put together (five to ten minutes), and you can fit them into spaces just over 12" wide, on top of other things, (cupboards etc). As the shelves are about ten inches apart they hold a lot of medium size books. The fact that they come in four, three, two shelves means that you can pick and mix depending on ceiling height.

Well made,Easy to assemble and I got 4 of two different sizes to make a wall unit up. Very good loads of really useful storage and for the price good value.only down is postage I bought 4 units in one go and got charged 4 x £6.99 postage.but that's ok. I purchased 2 more and have 6 nice varied height unit ensemble down one side of our lounge, smart modern and pleasing to the eye
