Reliving the Passion

The path that Jesus walked that led from His arrest, to His shameful mistreatment at the hands of religious and irreligious alike, to His crucifixion, and ultimately to His death on Golgotha was so packed with significance and emotion that it has come to be known simply as “the passion of Jesus.” Walter Wangerin, Jr. invites us to walk alongside Jesus through the thought-provoking words in his book “Reliving The Passion.”“Reliving” is set up to be a 40-day journey from Ash Wednesday through Resurrection Sunday, and uses mainly the Gospel of Mark as its source material. Along this journey you will see and learn and feel things you may have previously overlooked.Wangerin says, “When we genuinely remember the death we deserve to die, we will be moved to remember the death the Lord in fact did die.” To help us remember the passion of Jesus Christ, Wangerin frequently speaks to us in first person. Sometimes he places himself on the scene, and sometimes he invites us to see and feel the passion of Jesus through the eyes of someone who was an eyewitness to those moments of Christ’s passion. In every instance, he invites us to view and feel the passion of Jesus for ourselves.This is an excellent book for you to read year after year as you approach the Lenten season. Let us never forgot how much God’s love was fully expressed during His journey to the Cross.

As a used book, it was very clean. No torn pages, no underlining. Excellent condition and ready for me to carry it through Lent to Easter.

Reliving the Passion is an intimate, behind-the-scenes, through-the-heart retelling of the well known Passion of the Christ. It brings to light insights that I have glossed over for years. It raises introspective challenges as I strive to live more obediently for Jesus. Thank you Walter for opening my eyes through such an odyssey of the heart.

It is early Easter Sunday morning and I just finished reading the final meditation. I have been deeply moved by these devotionals and have spent time through each day pondering the happenings described. I feel that this book has given me new insights into the Passion and has aided in my preparation for Resurrection Day. The author has a way with words that makes these scenes so real in your mind that you almost imagine you are there. The song asks "Were you there when they crucified my Lord?" I felt as though I had been physically present.

Book not in very good shape

This is a Lenten devotional book. So provocative, and delves into the characters who were involved in the passion of Christ.What were their thoughts, fears, concerns. Why did they do what they did? How did Peter feel, for example when he denied knowing Jesus.The political climate at the time is described. I have had this devotion for several years, and now on my Kindle so I can read it every year, and understand more of the Love of God through Jesus for ME and for the whole world.Thank you Walter Wangerin Jr. for your many books, that put me right there in each scene as though I was living it.

This is one of Wangerin's best written pieces. It takes the reader through the Passion of Christ in a way that will not leave you the same. His perspective is from the individuals who were witnesses to the Passion, seen in ways that seem new, but very real. I have gone through this book several times over the years, but this year, made it my Lenten discipline. Reading each day's story, every day, put me there and gives me a greater joy and understanding of how God loves us. I have read no other work that makes Christ's suffering so personally felt. Wangerin is a master story teller and he has made the old, old story very, very new and meaningful.

The best Lent Study I have ever come across. The daily meditations have given me a fresh insight into Jesus's Passion and have been challenging, inspiring, moving and comforting.We have used the book in a small group by doing daily personal meditations then coming together each week to share our experiences and thoughts. Each person in the group (and we are in many different circumstances) has found it to be excellent.

Sadly I didn't order this in time, but enjoyed what I read. Lovely book in pristine condition.

Beautifully written book to guide you the 40 days of Lent. One to read slowly and savour.

I am using this book as my Lent reading. It is thought-provoking and I find it deeply moving. I would recommend it to anyone searching for a deeper perspective on the Passion of Christ Jesus.
