Great deal for the price
I love this subwoofer for the price and for my needs. I drive a Toyota Tacoma double cab, and have this mounted in the middle of the back seat (almost looks like an arm rest). It is larger than it looks in the pictures, but I have yet to see any smaller subwoofer/box/amps out there. This guy definitely improved the sound of my stock system by 100%. It doesn't necessarily shake the truck, but can bump if you want it to. Keep in mind that I do have it set up to my stock head unit, so it simply spliced into the rear speaker wire and not plugged into a subwoofer port. I understand this, but this only requires that I change a few settings on my head unit when I switch between different genres of music. I listen to everything from classic rock to alternative to rap to electronic music. This seems to sound better for certain genres over others. Classic rock music: Sound is great, it almost sounds like the guitars/bass guitars are playing in the vehicle with me. I recommend turning the bass lower for classic rock, but it provides a nice deep background. Pop/Alternative: Requires some tweaking between songs sometimes. Some songs sound great, others will shake the sub too much and drown out other noise. Overall, still sounds pretty good. Rap: This is mainly what I listen to while driving. I've noticed that it's real hit or miss depending on the frequency of bass in the song. About 75% of music sounds great, without that BUMP that other subs can give. Some songs will try to bump really hard, and this sub can't take a huge peak amount of bass, it's more for RMS bass playing steady. I like to actually hear music, and this adds a new dimension to rap without being obnoxious. Electronic: This sub really shines playing most electronic music, as it plays a nice steady bass instead of bumping like some rap music beats. Really sounds good, even turned up pretty high on the bass. Country: I hate country. I won't even test it out for one song for this review. Overall, I'd recommend this sub setup for any vehicle, not just for a truck with a small space. If you like steady bass, and not thumping/bumping/shaking bass, this is the one for you. For the price, you won't beat it. I got this fully installed in my truck for about $50, so all together about $200 total. It looks great with the carpeting, and I'm definitely satisfied with my purchase.

Easy stock system upgrade
I bought this to put under the bench seat on my Yamaha AR195 boat. Easy peezy to hook up. Looks great and seems well built. But.............Sound is Meh......Just not enough volume/bass out of it. It does make the music "fuller", but not much actuall bass. I know, I know....you get what you pay for and this is definitely worth the money. Just coming from a 90's bass head. If you want thumping bass.....Pass. Small update....after a few days out on the water and probably 30 hours of nonstop play at high volume....this little thing jams country and rock really well. Just not made for bass heads. I am upping my previous review 1 more star as it has held up well, and I got many compliments on my system with it. Edit....After another season of beating this thing mercilously...it still jams hard. Great Buy!

Good deal for the price
The MTX RT8PT does a fair job filling in the lower frequencies for most music. I completely upgraded the sound system in my wife's 2007 Toyota Highlander (head unit, door speakers with dedicated 400 watt rms 4 channel amp, this sub, and all new sound system wiring). I ran 4 gauge power wire from battery to distribution block with 2x 8 gauge wires exiting to the speaker and sub amps + proper grounding to chassis. I put Kenwood component set in front doors and coaxials in rear doors. Even with taking it easy with the soundstream 4 channel amp, the door speakers are almost too loud for this low power subwoofer. Ideally we would have gone with a 12" subwoofer with about 400-600 watts rms but we didnt want to sacrifice much of her cargo space. Though this subwoofer cannot hit the lowest notes in electronic music (below 35Hz), it covers the low range well foor most music types. Country and rock especially sound good with the punchy and responsive mtx 8" sub. It does hit hard enough to feel the vibrations. Overall we are very pleased because it helped us save cargo space while putting out enough bass to take the load off the door speakers (which we have crossed over highpass at 80Hz) and fill in those lower bass notes. The built in amp seems to have the right amount of power to drive the woofer without any over extension or distortion. If you like really deep and loud bass, and have space for a larger subwoofer setup, this is not the product for you. However, if space is important and you are satisfied with a sub to fill in lower notes without being loud with big vibrations, this sub will do the trick and reproduce punchy and accurate bass. I took one star away for the lack of volume this sub can achieve and the shape of the enclosure. Though the rounded top looks good, that and the angled front and back make for fewer positioning options. I did manage to get this placed verically in the back corner of her SUV, but it wasn't easy and required the use of some ratcheted straps I had. The straps that came with the sub would work for flat floor mounting to keep it from rolling but a horizontal orientation takes up more floor space than we prefer.

Great Little Sub, Great Buy, Too!
I spent alot of time online researching to find the right sub for my PT Cruiser.Given the nature of the interior of the Cruiser, (it's basically a big dome shape), I knew I would not need a big hulking sub box, but rather something smaller, self powered, that would produce tight, accurate bass, rather than big, boomy, sloppy bass. I really just wanted good fill-in bass for an all around balanced sound, not a bass heavy design. I listen to music, not bass... Anyway, this MTX was the right choice. I had it installed at Best Buy, it cost me $158 which included 8 gauge wire and labor. I will say that like most speakers, and electronics in general, this sub needed some break in time. When I listened to it the first time, I thought I had made a big mistake, it required some break in time, as most electronics do, but within an hour or so, it had completely smoothed out and blended well with the rest of the system. Now my auto system is complete, and I can say that this sub is a good one, it sounds good and clean, and it's not too big, yet produces some serious bass. I should also say that I keep the sub level pretty low in my system, because that's the sound I'm going for... fill-in bass. But, I can also attest that this sub can deliver big SPL's if that's what you want. Very versatile. Great buy. Quick shipping... Very satisfied.

Not the best, not the worst
I've been installing car stereos & systems for 17 years so I know what it all sounds like. MTX usually makes pretty good quality stuff. So I decided to try it in my 370z because of space and didn't want mind rattling bass. To be honest, I was not completely satisfied with the bass this was producing. I've installed 8's with smaller amps that sounded better than this. I tried aiming this sub every way in my car and have tuned it a s*!tload of times and just can't seem to get it to sound like I want. Some stuff sounds decent and others not so good. It was easy to install and looks nice, but don't know if I could ever recommend it. I ended up taking it out and getting 2-8"infinity reference subs in a small sealed box with a 300 watt infinity reference amp and let me tell you, this setup sounds great and has just the right amount of bump. Spend the extra $ and get something better. Don't know if I just got a bad one or what? I bought based on reviews I read from here.

Lots of boom for little bucks!
This all in 1 unit sounds better than a pair of 12's, and 300 watt amp I had back in the day, it's the perfect size to fit down in the bottom of my firebird convertible's trunk. paired with a pioneer Bluetooth head, I can put all the low end through this and all the high through the inside speakers. when the top is down at 60mph it sounds great, when the top is up, it's even better! (top creates a sound barrier when down) tail-gaters and people who get too close at stop lights get a surprise when the bass kicks in on a song and they back right off. =D Between this unit, the head unit, fuse wiring and heat-shrink couplings from ace hardware, and wiring I had from my old car, I only spent about $250 bucks to update the car to current standards with sound quality and connectivity. Very easy to install yourself with detailed instruction booklet, IF you have half a brain and you have ever done it before. Anything more than a couple of these in an SUV would be overkill and you'd probably need new glass. Get this for a cheap all in 1 solution and save your money for other car stuff.

Overrated
Seemed like a good bass package with a built-in amp. With all the review counts, I decided to give it a try. First impression, overrated and low quality sounding system. At about 15% gain it distorted when volume was 3/4. And, still could hardly hear it in a small BMW Z4 convertible soft top. The best powered 8-inch system in the market is the JL Audio w3 microsub+. Don't look any further. You're welcome.

Great little enclosure, nice little sub.
Great little woofer, sounds great.I tried this in my Tahoe and found it to not have the punch I was looking for so I got a 12" Alpine Type R in a sealed enclosure on a 500 watt rms Alpine mono amp, now there is too much bass. This enclosure on the MTX is very well made and super solid. Amy seems a little under powered as it could use another 100 watts or even more suited for a smaller car. It would be excellent in a small SUV, pick up or car. Nice sub, rubber surround and nice cone. Pretty small, think smaller, by a little, then a 5 gallon bucket on its side.
