Esoteric Mind Power

There are not enough stars to rate this book as high as it needs to be. This is the 2nd Vernon Howard book I've read and I can't wait to get into the next one. The Mystic Path To Cosmic Power is a good intro if you haven't read it yet. This one is not a rehashing of ideas from that book. Some of the same truths are presented, but definately in a new way that stretches the ideas further.The titles of these books seem strange on the surface, but just get into the book and be open to what is being said and you'll gain a higher perspective. The titles might lead you to think this is "New Age" stuff, but it is really a genuine philosphy on how to live a purposeful life.I've been searching for this insight for years, digging through other books on philosophy, religion, and self help. Many times having to wade through an entire chapter to get what is presented on just one paragraph of this book. I usually jot down ideas in the back of a book, but there are too many to note per page in this one.I'm writting this review so others can find the answers I have been searching for most of my life. If one cannot accept the concepts in these books, the very reason one cannot accept them is actually in the books, and what these books are all about.

The writing style for this book is very strange. With each paragraph being a different thought roughly put together in chapters. If it would have been written as a book of proverbs I would have given it 5 stars.*****With that said these are the most straight forward and clear wisdom sayings I have ever read.There is a simple test for determining whether or not we are thinking with self benefit. If either an enemy or a friend appears to be exterior to us,we must reverse our mind. The enemy or friend is always within, though the mind projects them outward,thus deceiving us.Nothing disturbs the man that controls his own mind.Where ever you go, you meet yourself.Your internal state is your world.A problem is solved by seeing there is no problem outside yourself.The contented man is rich.Intelligent inaction is the highest form of action.Peace exists when you have nothing to prove.....when you have no self to prove.When demanding something from another person,you lose command of yourself.Our freedom can be determined by the number of things we can walk away from.If you want 200 pages of these buy the book.

Hard hitting Vernon Howard. Some great little gems here and there in the book. Basically exhorts people to be completely honest with themselves, and to turn to self-observation and self-awareness as much as possible.However, there seems to be no real flow in the book at all- each paragraph being either totally unrelated to the next, or just the same ideas repeated over and over in the book. Looks like it was taken largely from his talks or other lectures and cobbled together. Although great advice, it's largely impractical, with no real means for "sufferers" to get out of their predicament. It's all very well to say "Do it!" and "Why do you have to suffer?", but if readers actually knew how to pull themselves out of their machinations, they would have done it already! Should be used in conjunction with Vernon Howard's lectures or live talks which are more practical.One can detect the author's familiarity with Gurdjieff and Ouspensky type work, and even much of the jargon is included. Likewise, the author has taken from several traditions including Zen, Taoism, etc. with the aims of quietening the mind, self-observation, and self-honesty.Still, worth a read for interests sake, and serves as great motivation on being honest and wanting to awaken from 'psychic' sleep.

This book is one you may have to stop reading along the way to contemplate and digest what you have read in paragrph or a page. Not many, including myself can live the life Mr. Howard advocates. It is all applicable and true but not so easily done in the 21st century. I strive to continiuosly grow and this book is one of the human owners manuals to do so. There are a few things I may not whole heartedly agree with as you will find I'm sure. Overall it's well worth the money and what you can gain from it is priceless.

I read this book in 1979 when I was going through some very difficult times and it truly gave me a new outlook.I think it probably saved me from taking a very negative path.

You'll no longer need those after you've discovered the teachings of Vernon Howard. He speaks TRUTH, and you crave TRUTH, so do yourself a big favor and buy this book. One of my favorite books, ever.Another good one, especially for first-time VH readers, is Mystic Path to Cosmic Power.

This would have been a good book but i feel but has low and less spirit...However it is well crafted and written .. would recommend to novices and neophytes ...

Vernon revealed the wisdom of the ages in these few pages. A must have for Truth Seekers. Easy to read and understand. I love the way Vernon writes.
