Works, But Beware
This thing does what it says, but know this before you buy it. Whenever you hook it up to your mac and mirror image the screen, then close your laptop, you are supposed to be able to just hit a key or click the mouse and it will wake up the screen on whatever external display you are using. This would work correctly for the regular Mini display adapter (which I first bought but then returned because it did not support audio because my laptop was too old apparently) but with this connection, it will not wake up your display, and the only workaround would be that you have to unplug and replug in the adapter to your macbook, then hit a key. This is the same thing for whenever your computer goes to sleep. If you are done using your mac for a bit and decide to put it into sleep mode (not by closing it since it is obviously already closed) and then ten seconds later remember that you had to send an email really quick, you will try to hit a key or click the mouse to wake up the laptop from its slumber and send it. The laptop will wake up, as you will hear the fans inside start to turn again, but the image will not pop back up to your display, you will have to unplug the adapter and plug it in again. It seems to work in the same way that properly ejecting a usb drive from your computer works, once you instruct the computer to eject the drive, it vanishes from your computer and is unfindable, even though it is still physically in your usb port. Again, this is not something that is impossible to work around, as I stated before that I could wake up the display from slumber with the previous adapter i tried. This may not seem like a huge deal, but is sort of a pain in the ass, because every time you want to use your computer you have to a) unplug and replug in the display port connection, which will surely cause gradual wear and tear on the product and/or the port itself, or b) leave your laptop running all the time, which is a bad idea for the life of the battery (and your power bill.) So if you are like me and are wanting to use this connection to permanently connect to a display and use your laptop more like a regular desktop computer, you may want to think twice. I'll email the supplier my review to make sure that I did not simply receive a faulty product and update/change it with any addition information I acquire.

Finally video AND audio!!
I recently bought a MacBook Pro and have been trying to find a way to transfer both video and audio to my panasonic TV. I'll cut to the chase, I spent three months calling Apple stores, Best Buy, and various other electronic stores to try to figure out how I could transfer both audio and video to the TV in an easy way and every time they told me that it wasn't possible. It was very hard for me to believe that in 2010, on a MacBook Pro I couldn't stream a movie from my laptop to the TV without hooking it up to the TV like it was on life support (with all different kinds of wires).BUT, after searching and searching I finally found this product mentioned and I was lucky enough to find it on Amazon, I ordered it and today I was watching You Tube and Hulu on my 42 inch TV (beautifully by the way, the picture is just as clear on the TV as it is on the lap top) and all with only one cable. Well kind of, I hook my HDMI cable up to the converter and that's it.I will admit that I've only had this for one night, a lot could happen with this over the next few days, but as far as the satisfaction of finally finding the product that did the job this is easily worth 5 stars.By the way, for anyone else that was in the same boat that I was in, read the previous review about how to adjust the settings to get the video stream and audio stream to the TV, it was right on and only took me about 30 seconds to get the job done once I read them.Update: A year and a half later and this thing is still working beautifully. I do notice that the lap top get's unusually hot when running with this. I don't know if it's just a coincidence, but it's never been so bad I was worried.

Save the extra $30 and buy the $7 version
Computer to be used with:Apple Mac Book Air 11.6"Brand new Nov 2010I read a lot of forums to identify that somewhere post April 2010 the mini-display port's on MBP's started outputting audio in addition to video. This is not the case for Mac Book Air's (any of them) - they only output video through the mini-display port.Pros: My goal was to get full resolution and audio through 1 HDMI plug to my TV. This product does that just as it says by combining audio-out via USB with the display-port video-out into HDMI. Hence 3 stars.Cons: Even if you decide you want just video output, you must have the USB cable plugged in as well. There seems to be a relay in the adapter that won't allow it to function unless its drawing current through the USB cable. This is bad because it means both plugs must always be attached to the computer to use the adapter; on a MBA ports are scarce. Secondly, the adapter gets very hot in seconds and remains that way regardless of usage.I'm frustrated by the fact that USB must be plugged in (even without audio) because for $7 I could have bought a product that accomplished the same thing but with fewer parts. (My friend has one which I tested and it works great for just video) Also, I don't like hot electronics, especially simple adapters that shouldn't be pulling enough energy to get hot in the first place. You could save a bunch of $$ by going with the $7 version and using a separate audio cable from the headphone out; things would stay cooler this way and you'd have a free USB port.

Flaky
A lot of times my TV wont recognize this and gives me an error saying it will not play the resolution. I have lowered the resolution on the computer as much as possible and my brand new LCD TV is certainly capable of much more. So I blame the adapter. This is an intermittent problem but increasing and now about 50% of the time and means multiple reboots of the computer etc.It also gets very hot. The adapter might work if you turned if off all the time and let it cool.I've given up and used a video only adapter with no sound and had to pipe my sound to another stereo to hear the sound from my computer (a bit cumbersome). It's a shame that upgrading my TV has probably forced me to upgrade my Mac mini computer but that seems to be the world we live in (forced upgrade cycle).I would have been better buying an older model TV that still had a PC input.

Works perfectly - finally a device that lets me put audio from older Mac Mini through HDMI
I have tried 3 other devices claiming to add audio over the HDMI connection for an older mac mini - this is the first and only device to actually work flawlessly. Very happy with purchase.
