Isn’t that rape?
This one upset me a little. Peggy is now a vixen who’s hesitant to sleep around even though her vixen wants to. Some of her misgivings are based upon bigotry, but I don’t think forcing her to shift so she can go “play” is consent. She may be a romantic or she simply may NOT be a slut. It doesn’t matter. She doesn’t want to sleep around. It’s worse because the moral high ground is based upon Lycans being more “open” towards sex. Loyalty to self doesn’t make you a prude. There’s more, but I don’t want to spoil anything.

Well that was horrifying.
I have to leave spoilers to explain just how evil the "good guys" were acting to my mind. In the previous book Shaun rescued two girls; one a fox lycan sex slave, the other a dying mage who he ordered bitten by the slave to save her life. Sounds like a good setup for emotional drama and payoff right? In this book it has apparently been decided to keep the first girl as a kennel sex slave servicing dozens of men throughout the day. Even the other women only comment that "She must like it because she keeps doing it". No one considers that she might be doing it out of fear of her new master or whatever mental conditioning she already had. Then there's the newly minted lycan fox. She has many of the same difficulties as Shaun did. Mage, newly bitten, family killed, the only living sister rejecting her as a monster. I was expecting some empathetic moments between the two of them. Instead, after she tells him all her problems, including that the men keep bothering her for sex, he forces her to change and give control to her beast before sending the fox to go help service the kennel "For 24 hours or until she accepts things" while the girl is locked in her own mind unable to do anything but watch and scream silently. We find out later that she was a lesbian before today and seemingly only had sex with the slave fox. So now her first time with a man was with multiple strangers against her will with bestiality thrown in. What makes it even stranger is watching her walk in the next day acting like everything is perfect and trying desperately to get into Shaun's pants. From the clue we are given; she hides behind him when other lycans are around, she says she needs to be with the biggest and strongest, she is willing to risk her life for this person who she just met who abused her so terribly, it is obvious that she is in the throws of Stockholm syndrome. I had to stop reading the series for a while because of how awful it made me feel. I'm not sure if the author was having too much fun and didn't bother rereading it themselves to see what it looked like in the big picture, or if they just find the idea of doing that to someone exciting. But for me it was a hard corner into uncomfortable territory that I had thought these characters were better than. It was like everyone, even the non lycans, had no humanity or empathy for anyone outside their own selfish sexual desires. Which was really sad since the previous books and most of this one were quite good and had a far different message that that small part.

Best Book in the Series
This fourth book in the series is easily the best yet. Sean and his growing cast of mates and friends are deep in their struggle to free the lycanthropes from slavery to the wizards. There’s a nice mystery developing around the special place of werelions in the world of lycanthropes and a great subplot involving the assassin that killed Sean’s father. The action is fast paced and easy to read. In fact, despite two three star reviews I’ve given earlier books in the series, I pre-ordered this one when it came out and read it as soon as it was published. So it is a likeable series with engaging characters and a pretty tight storyline.Yet my biggest complaint remains. There are almost no differences between the different species of wereanimals other than superficial ones. Cheetahs are fast, lions sleep around a lot, etc. I think that a series in which lycanthopes play such an important role ought to do the creatures justice by permitting the werebeasts to be different from each other. I also think we need to see lycanthropes struggling to control their beasts. Laurell K. Hamilton pulls this off extremely well. Stryvant doesn’t appear to be interested in the issue and I think it hurts his world building. That being said, I’ll be pre-ordering the next book as soon as it becomes available.

Excellent book with lots of Lycan, magic and combat
Our hero, Sean, is getting extra serious now. One of the Mage Councils have brought back the hitman who killed his father. He’s also looking for an Alpha werewolf to replace the one that he kicked out of the Lycan fellowship. He’s trying to convince his 4th wife to move in with them, and then goes and gets himself a hot little vixen as his 5th.Then some interesting combat to free some more wolves, and a great big twist in the last few pages of the book.Excellent book, probably the best so far in the series.

Its not so much a 10 BOOK
I just fininshed "Book 4" and ordered "Book"5. I am taking a break, but intend to resume. This is not like a trilogy or something. Its more like the "Adventures of" at $4.00 an adventure. Its pretty well written and I enjoy the story. But its not a series of books. Its like a short story on TV, with 10 episodes to it. Like most pay per view, you pay for each episode. $40.00 in total I was thinking I would be getting more for each book. But like I also said, I am continuing on in the series. Because I like the story, just an expensive story.

A great urban fantasy series keeps getting better--and funnier!
As if poor Sean doesn't have enough problems, now he's got the same guy that killed his father after him. But he's also got five--or is it six--lovely kick-ass mates and a lot of friends, ranging from the father of his first mate who is sheriff of Las Vegas, to Sawyer, a green pointy-eared, pointy-nosed goblin with an attitude. Sean learns a lot more about how magic and computer programming can be wound together, and he also learns just how and why his father made a deal with his killer to save Sean and his mother. Great series! I'm eagerly awaiting number 5 and hope to learn more about Sean's lion and his half-fae mother. That should be exciting.

Looking forward to more
Picked up the set of four books so I'm darned if I'm reviewing each individual volume !The series runs a good line in the "normal guy gets introduced to the magic world hidden from mundanes". Lots of action, plenty of bedroom action and actually a character who uses the abilities of his friends and allies rather than just being overpowered and bashing heads. The growing harem is fun as the cast plays off against and with one another. All in a ll a fun series.

A great continuation
I'm loving the characters and story more each book and cannot wait to see what happens next. There are some mistakes here and there but they are just bumps in the road of a good story. Cheers!

Families and freedom
Fantastic addition to the series with few loose ends been tied up but new ones been created, very exciting story arc in the future.Characters are matured and a lot of other characters joining the story to fill the Libes of our mc, which WS great and some few twists as well. Really well written. Can't wait for the fifth book already.

Another excellent entry to the series
A good action packed tale, that both finishes up some threads of the current story arc, and sets up new threads that should resolve the rest of the current plot, as well as give avenues into the next one.I look forward to reading the next release.
