Goblin Market and Other Poems (Dover Thrift Editions: Poetry)

Pretty as its cover. This book has poems I've never seen or heard of. I found a stunning book plate for it. Should make it less stealable!

This e-book poem collection is definitely worth $1.99. The poem "Goblin Market" is fantastic, and utterly unique classic poem. FYI, this poem is 27 pages long (as displayed on my Kindle). I liked some of the other poems, but Rossetti tends to dwell too much on death and dying. Goblin Market was a work of true genius, though, and it is not depressing. If you like fantasy and faerie tales, you will like this poem.

this Dover Thrift Edition of poems by Christina Rossetti is compact,easy to carry about and to read, rewarding momentary opportunities.The title poem is not a favorite of mine, but many do admire it.I prefer four short poems here: Remember, After Death, Song, and Uphill.¶ This is one of several rewarding Dover Thrift Editions;if you have not yet tried them, this one will open a door.

The text of the poetry is fine and what I expected. I was disappointed that the only artwork was the cover Rackham print. I was hoping to replace an old Dover Press paperback version that had several different prints and small line-art sketches within the text. "Thrift" should have tipped me off, as well, that the paper would be low-end. As a replacement to the poems, it is a fine collection. As an addition to a library, disappointing.

Expectedly okay

I remember reading Goblin Market for class at my university for British Literature. It was one of the best peoms I have ever read in that class. The imagery is fantastic and passionate.When I found out that Goblin Market was published in this book, I was overjoyed. The other peoms were really delightful and really fit in with Goblin Market. Many of the peoms have religious and feminine themes in them, but are simply amazing. It's worth reading at least once.

This was an excellent introduction to Christina Rossetti's poetry. I had planned on buying a book that contained the complete writings of Ms. Rossetti, and someone recommended this as a good introduction. I agree! These poems are for the most part enjoyable to read and digest.

I have taken a few friends to a Restaurant in the beautiful and quiet little town of Mt. Dora Florida that is named for this poem. Since many times we were celebrating birthdays, I thought it was only fitting to give them this book as a gift. I did buy one for myself. I loved the book and so did all of my friends.

Been an admirer of Christina Rossetti’s poetry for decades, especially Goblin Market & Other Poems. These have always come to me in larger collections. So imagine my delight to discover that Penguin had produced a single volume hardcover edition. Penguin! Renowned for producing great books. Now imagine my disappointment when receiving my ribbon marker complete with thick-paged Smyth-sown volume to discover that the pages are not pliable, don’t lay flat! So, I do what any sensible person does and hope it improves with age and use. It doesn’t. Sorry Penguin. I still feel let down with this one. Perhaps with later editions you might try a thinner thickness of paper.

I love the poem 'The Goblin Market' so I picked up this book and got more than I expected. For the price I was really surprized by the quality. It's a great size to tote about if you want. You can tuck into your purse and the fabric cover gives it that old feeling (it's really tactile) even though it's new. It really is a lovely thing.

I try but often fail to appreciate poetry but I must say that Christina Rossetti enthralls me.I'm quite a prolific reader and first became intriqued by ' Goblin Market' because it cropped up so frequently in the books I read. I'm so pleased I read the two previous reviews because they influenced my decision to buy.This little book is such a gem, no grey area's for me, I just loved it.Her words are so beautifully descriptive I was immediately seduced and living the tale.A book to treasure.

I assumed this would be the same size as the other penguin clothbound classics but it is a lot smaller. I didn't think to check as theg have slwsys been the samw. I would have returned but not worth psying the return postage

I mostly bought this because of the Goblin Market poem but adore all of them! These poems are magical and whimsical in the best way, I couldn’t recommend this book of poems enough!
