Comfortable Solution
I work for a industrial contractor and have recently purchased a pair of steel toed 'sneakers' for working in some lighter industrial facilities, where just a steel toed shoe is required. Over recent years, it's been impossible to find a comfortable safety shoe / boot, until trying sneakers, but I was still limited to wearing them only where metatarsals weren't required, until I became aware of these shoe laced, Impacto Metguard Metatarsal Protectors. They are made of very, very light durable plastic and are easy to mount by just lacing them in with your shoe laces. You are barely aware you are wearing them, as they do not cause any additional discomfort to your feet, while allowing a considerable amount of flexibility. IMHO, this solution and the additional comfort were well worth the cost of this productJust a word of advice: Be sure to lace the guards, so that the toe end rests far enough onto the steel toed area of your shoe / boot. Otherwise, the edge of the guard will bite down, binding against the edge of the steel toed area when the shoe is flexed forward .

Great product, for glasshouse work. To use with sleel toe boots.
I work with big sheets of glass, and was looking for something to go on my steel toe boots. These work great I feel alot safer wearing them working. They are suprising durable for the material, and they sit perfectly onto my steel toe. Easy to put on and our safety man approved it, so great purchase. Would recommend this product.

Plastic
Very thin and they move alot even with your laces, I wouldn't purchase again. Made cheap.

Held up to a direct 30lb direct steel impact
I work in steel body armor manufacturing and had a stack of 3 10lb plates fall directly on my metatarsal guards. I have larger feet at size 13W, and while I felt it, these protected my feet from injury. Another coworker had something similar happen and his injury felt severe enough to go to urgent care the next day. Having large feet and possibly not having the guards always sitting in the optimum location, the concave edges can still drive into the foot on an impact, but I’m very sure these performed exactly as they should and saved me from injury, I definitely recommend them. I initially was using factory laces with plastic tips and they would tap on the plastic while walking occasionally, which I did find annoying. After I broke a lace and switched to leather laces they are silent. Occasionally they have snagged on things but I feel they are worth the trouble in my workplace. They are shiny, which I don’t care for, mine are dull only because of my work environment.

If you weld, buy these..
Im a flood welder (tool & die repair) and bought these after a drip of slag fell in my boot lace hole. I couldn't get my boot off fast enough.. I promise, you do not want to have molten metal on the thin skin covering the top of your foot, & I don't think Amazon would allow the graphic pictures I have, but it took almost a year to heal and I no longer have feeling in that spot. Accidents happen, but this is a cheap and effective preventative. Included a pic of them after a year of hard use and abuse welding over 900-1200° dies. They're tough!

cheap, effective, imperfect
Thankfully I haven't had the misfortune of testing these yet (by having something heavy fall on my foot)They are REALLY shiny-- if your job makes you have polished boots these will bring attention to any flaw or missed spot on your last polishing.I'll try to come back in a few months and say how long it took them to scuff up from normal usage. -- After a day I see tiny little scratches all around but they are still quite glossy. There is NO padding on the back, so the way they protect you is just distributing the impact over more of your foot, note quite ideal if you ask me. They overlap the steel toe -- there is no gap between the steel toe and this protector. (Which may be good or bad... if it acts like a bridge over the mid-foot the steel toe end wont give... but the end supported by your ankle will.... but this may be the case with ANY Met guard not just these)There are 6 holes for the laces to thread through-- do it just like you would your boots without these -- just go through both the boot and the met guard hole. I will say that they make it harder to get boots off and on, and also making sure the boot is laced up at an acceptable level of tightness takes a couple extra minutes. If you are out buying new boots I would DEFINATELY bring these with you and try them on with the new boots -- the laces holes limit how tight or loose you can make the boot so you may end up needing to go up or down a size to maintain comfort.EDIT: 1 week laterThe plastic does have some scratches on it from normal wear. Some scratches are a little deep. its had the effect of making the whole guard less shiny which may be good or bad depending on preference. With the amount of damage they have already, I'd be surprised if they lasted more than 5 years before I felt concerned about the damage compromising the protection.

Not great
No matter what tying method we used or how tight we tied it, it still lifted up a little at the front. It looks very cheap and I doubt it’s bulletproof/as strong as advertised. It’s like it needs a couple more holes lower or somethingStay safe and Happy Earth Day! 🌎
