A must have!
We have one hearing impaired person in the house who blares the TV. This device was an instant problem solver.Through the years we've tried surround sound and eventually had him in a Stonehenge like circle of speakers, sound bars, moving his chair closer and closer to the television (can't get closer anymore) and wireless headphones. Add to that the years of requests and bickering about how the TV was too loud and shaking the walls. If your considering wireless headphones... the individual is so isolated when wearing them that it's no fun for them or us (ex. Can't enjoy conversation with others during a program, can't hear someone at the door, or hear phone ring, etc ). Was like a game of charades all the time making hand gestures to the person while they wore headsets.Save yourself all that trouble and just buy this speaker!Ease of use. . .The speaker is refreshingly easy to operate . No complicated options. There is one big dial to click on/off/adjust volume. Doesn't get easier than that!Setting up. . . .Took me longer to unbox it than to set up!Instructions were extremely easy (no previous tech experience required). Provided multiple methods to connect... And Simple instructions with no more than three steps. Diagrams to walk you through it. Of course, your miles vary based on your existing TV model and other setups (cable boxes, dvds, surround sound hookups, etc). But the manufacturer has attempted to think of every TV setup situation and seems to have a solution. If you have trouble, don't give up. Just call customer service. The experience . . .Very Lightweight. Small/compact. Sound quality is clear and crisp. Also powerful and can be turned up really loud (ex. Listening to music).A great feature is that you can have sound come strictly out of the wireless speaker (and have the TV speaker silent) OR you can use both the wireless speaker AND the TV at same time/different volume levels independently. This second option is excellent because non hearing impaired folks can enjoy the TV normally (using the TV volume remote). . . And the hearing impaired individual can use the wireless speaker next to them (using the dial on the wireless speaker). If you hit the mute button on your TV remote, it mutes the TV AND the speaker at same time. Excellent feature... Because it would be a pain to have to mute the TV and then have to manually turn off the wireless speaker.(this is based upon my experience using the "plug the red and white cord into back of cable box" method) .This isn't just for the hard of hearing either. There are countless other uses for it. Example. . . Taking it with you into another area/room so you can still hear the TV. When I'm in the kitchen and the dishwasher is running, I can't hear the TV in the living room very well. This solves the problem. I also play music via the TV music channels. Having a wireless TV speaker expanding music/news/etc elsewhere in the house and even outside on our lanai is great.Another use is using it by your bedside so you don't wake someone sleeping in same room. There is an outlet on the speaker as well if you wanted to use headphones. Wireless TV headphones are a headache (been there, done that) . . . So now you can just buy a pair of cheap plug ins and you are good to go! I'm not hard of hearing and find the speaker provides a better listening experience (no more commercials that cut in and rock the house, dialogue is clearer, action scenes don't shake the walls, etc). You've got to hear what you're missing!Last but not least. . . The price. This was way pricier than I wanted to pay and seemed like a rip off. Looks are deceiving! It ended up being worth every penny for the easy setup, ease of use and quality sound. Everyone in the house is happy!I also purchased an additional power cord ($15 on Amazon) so it will not have to be returned to its base for recharging. In the event someone forgets to put it back on the charger at end of day or if they just run out of juice, they will be able to still use it by using the additional power cord. That is the ONLY negative about this item (having to purchase a second power cord) .Definitely purchase an extra power cord... You won't have to return the wireless speaker to the power base for recharging. The power base isn't wireless and is connected to TV.Update Dec 2017 (one year later): use it every single day for past year. Can't live without it. No issues.I think we need to purchase some special adapter so we can be able to use the speaker while watching occasional dvds. Due to limited ports/already occupied ports on our TV and cable box, we didn't have the ability to connect directly to TV and had to connect to cable box. This means speaker won't work when playing DVD. Other than that discovery, we still love it!Update 9/2019 ; still used daily and going strong... Even though the member of our household we purchased this for now has hearing aids! He continues to use it since it really makes dialogue clearer and reduces loud background noise. Highly recommend!Update 9/2021: Purchased Dec 2016 and have used speaker DAILY at least 7hrs per day. Haven't had one issue with it!

Excellent product for people whose hearing isn't what it used to be!
I purchased this item for my 94 year old mother who is hard of hearing. She had the TV volume almost all the way up, but still couldn't hear it well. I'm sure that was in part because the native speakers in flat screen TVs aren't all that great to start with, and once you turn the volume up to three quarters or more the sound starts to become distorted which eliminates any benefit of turning it up further. I placed this speaker on the table next to her easy chair, and I also bought a additional power adapter for the speaker so that it doesn't ever need to be placed in the base to be charged. From there she only needed it turned up between a quarter and a half, as it's very loud if you turn it up past half way, and the sound was much clearer that what was coming from the TV. She absolutely loves it!As far as the setup is concerned, I placed the base station behind the TV and connected the incoming sound to the base station. The TV had both HDMI and component inputs, and the DVR had both too, so I left the TV set to HDMI and connected the component sound cables to the speaker base unit. Several audio cables come with the speaker, including some Y cables, so you should be able to split your audio signal if you have only a single audio cable and want to use both the TV's speakers and the wireless speaker. Also the the audio cables are mixed male and female, so you can use them as gender changers in addition to Y cables if necessary.I was originally a bit concerned about putting the base station behind the TV out of fear that having the TV in between the base station and speaker might cause some static or interference, but it turned out to be no problem. As I bought a separate power supply for the speaker itself, there will never be a need to access the base station again, so I definitely wanted to hide it behind something out of the way.All in all this is an absolutely great product. I'll also note that there no perceivable delay in the sound that would manifest itself as people's lips being out of sync with their words, nor is their any static or dropouts. In our setup the base station is about 15-20 feet from the speaker, and as I said it's behind the TV so the signal has to go through the TV itself to get to the speaker. Mom also has Wifi in the house and I've not noticed any interference issues. The only thing I haven't specifically tested yet is running other appliances at the same time (e.g. microwave, vacuum cleaner, etc.) to see if they cause any interference. One thing I would recommend that you do though is to buy the extra power adapter so that you don't have to ever put the speaker in base station to charge it. I put the speaker in the base station only once overnight when I first opened the box to give it an initial charge, and to potentially make sure that it was paired or synched correctly with the base station (I think I read something about that being necessary at least once). The adapter I used was this one: OMNIHIL Regulated 9 Volt 1.5 Amp Power Adapter, AC to DC, 2.1mm X 5.5mm Barrel Plug, Regulated Power Supply 9v 1.5a Power Supply 8 Foot Long Cord . It has a nice long cord so the speaker can be a decent distance from an outlet.

Love this Soundbox Speakr
I have read many reviews before deciding to purchase. When I ordered it shipping wait time was 7-14 days but was delivered in 5 days. I opened the package and followed instructions, first attempt to hook up to the TV failed, no sound..second attempt I rerouted the cables to the PVR and whoo I had sound. volume was great. I purchased this for my husband who has a hearing problem and always has the TV volume turned up way to loud. Now in the evenings he turns the sound off on the TV, puts the soundbox speaker on his end table and no longer disturbs anyone else in the house. He also is very impressed with this speaker. It is light weight, portable and easy to use. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

very good quality sound
very good quality sound, and very easy, plug and play, set-up. It ought to come with two power adapters so that 'recharging' is less of a hassle.
