A good value with some nice bells and whistles.
My 7 year old wanted his own radio to take when he stays overnight at a friends house. He also wanted something that would play his favorite songs at night-time. This radio fit the bill at a very reasonable price. It is a convenient size for a child - not real huge, but not too small. He takes it with him all over the house, on trips in the car, and to his friend's house whenever he wants to take his music along. Pros: *Small, but with a speaker large enough to have a good sound (for a portable) *The built in rechargeable batteries last a long time on one charge. *You can also put regular batteries in if you can't get to AC to recharge it. (They go in a separate compartment from the internal rechargeable battery.) *The built-in flashlight function was a big hit with my 70 year old son. *The USB player is an added bonus. *FM reception is clear. Not the most sensitive, but good enough. *AM reception is... well... its AM. *SW receiving bands is also an added bonus, but there isn't nearly as much on as there used to be when I was a kid. *The built-in handle is a nice feature that makes it easy for him to grab and go. Cons: *There is no display for the USB MP3 player, so it is difficult to select songs for Playback of USB/MP3. Just an "advance" or "retreat" button. *My son lost the AC/Charging cord within a week. But it is a simple AC cord and NOT a "wall-wart" supply so it will be easy to replace. *The Off/USB/Radio button is a bit stiff and tricky to operate. The Bottom line: Are there better portable radios available? Certainly. But they cost a LOT more. This is a good value with some nice extra features.

Simple Radio with Modern Flare
Purchased radio to replace the one I use out on the deck. Wanted something inexpensive and sound quality that is respectable. Got it! The Radio reception seems fine and the added bonuses of rechargeable long lasting battery, USB and SD card inputs, Aux input(IPOD, MP3 etc.) and earphone output are icing. I tested the usb and found it to remember where it left off so I can use it to listen to audio books and OTR. It does not have an mp3 readout but I usually just hit play and let it go. It does not have a battery charge indicator but the instructions state 6 - 8 hrs plugged in is sufficient. Not sure what I would use the flashlight for but I guess if I am listening in the dark I can always use it to find my way to the light switch ;-) . Only had it a day but if this radio last a while I will be very happy with this purchase.

Affordable, great for travels, easy to use, shortwave reception is great.
Bought this for an older relative that travels out side of the USA on a frequent basis, So far loves the radio, easy to use, stays in touch with world news not just local via the shortwave bands; sound is great but not perfect, gets distorted on high volume / the internal battery and flashlight is a plus since electricity is intermittent where were it's being used. Love the fact that you can plug a USB stick or SD card full of your favorite music to enjoy a well as your phones music through the in-line 3.5 mm audio input (you need to buy a cable for this) I'm thinking of getting another one for my self too.

Buy This Radio For .MP3 Audio Playback!
I have purchased four units of this radio. I was so impressed with the first purchase that I purchase three additional units. I use this radio nearly exclusively for its ability to play music from my USB Flashdrive, SD Cards, or Aux Input. I can load hundreds of songs on my flashdrive and have them play on this radio. The radio has really excellent, room filling, deep rich sound. The speaker is excellent. As far as AM/FM/SW reception is quite good, but again, I use it 99% of the time to simply playback music (MP3 files) from my flashdrive. The playback controls even feature a "Repeat" button, something that other, more expensive, radios do not have. I really, really like this radio. Build quality is very good with built in carry handle. The designers of this radio did a very fine job. I own many, many radios and this is the one that I turn to first. I highly recommend this radio.

Good little radio
Too many reviewers seem to be comparing this radio to high price portables. This is an inexpensive radio that has some unique features. If these are important to you, than its the very best in its class. The radio does an excellent job of playing media from the USB input. It has a pause, and will advance or reverse if you hold down the arrow keys. It won't hold your position on the recording if you turn it off or on. I've never used the card slot. If these are the features you are looking for -- as I was -- then buy this radio. It's about the only one that has them and they work. The sound is predictable from a single smaller speaker, and the volume can be turned up pretty high. The radio gets good reception. The station key is essentially a sticker behind the tuning label. Mine has a hump in it, but that doesn't affect performance. The reality is that anyone around the age of 50 remembers this set up from the battery powered radios from the 70's -- it's not about precision as much as it is a general understanding of where you are on the dial. The internal battery holds a decent charge, the flashlight works. Yes, the plug is the cheapest I've ever seen, but so what? It feels like a pretty cheap build so I hope I never drop it. That said, I would buy this again if I had to.

A great combination of old and new technology
This is a great product for the money. The transistor technology of the 60's is combined with the latest computer technology. The speaker sounds good and the radio is fine. The shortwave bands have very little programming these days, so they are superfluous. The lantern can prove useful in an emergency. The rechargeable battery lasts for a log time. The actual size of the radio is 8 inches wide, 5.5 inches high, and almost 3 inches thick. It weighs about 1.5 lbs which makes it portable even on travel. It is an ideal gift for kids and adults alike.

Happy Radio
I love this thing. It does everything. I use it as an emergency flashlight. The charge lasts plenty long. I play the radio when I work using the internal battery or plugged in. I stick a usb stick in it and it starts playing immediately with a flick of one button. At first I was a little critical of the speaker, it's a nice size so I expected better, but I found it a bit harsh. All it needed was some burn in time and it mellowed a bit, and became fine. For the price there's reason to be happy with this little radio. I take it with me to listen to when I renovate or do carpentry, and the hi-fi system has to stay behind. It's convenient and all purpose. To the fellas who made it -- good work!

Faulty Internal Battery and Excessive Static
There were several things wrong with the radio I received: 1. Even after allowing 7 hours to recharge the radio will not turn on with the built in battery unless it is first plugged in. This defeats the purpose of a battery - it should not need electricity to turn on. 2. Excessive static 3. I tried to use it with ''D'' batteries but the batteries do not stay flushed - they buckle in the middle and I'm not sure if they're working or the built-in rechargeable battery is kicking in. There is no indicator that tell you which source of power the radio is using at a given time. I hate returns as it takes me some time researching before I actually buy but I am returning this item.
