Very heavy high quality aerospace feel no wonder it was ...
I recommend this product to be used on diesel engines especially on exhaust manifold and or turbo sides. If your diesel engine does not have some form of battery heat shield from the factory it was most likely removed due to damage or convenience for the installer. I used this product for my group 65 batteries in my diesel. I had to slightly trim and found it cuts beautifully with a sharp razor blade on plywood backing and straight edge. DON'T DO WHAT I DID, BE VERY CAREFUL WRAPING THE BLACK MATTING AROUND THE BATTERY AND CUTTING TO SIZE AS THIS PRACTICE WILL GIVE YOU A FALSE MEASURMENT. Once the alumized fiberglass sheet is pressed together with the black matting and wrapped around the battery, you will loose about an inch of black matting and there will be an ugly gap. Also, I had to razor cut some bottom battery mount rectangles for the hold down wedges. Asside from all the work and having to buy the product twice because of my mistake, I was extreemly impressed with the quality of this product. Unlike other products I have experimented with in the past, the aluminized shield is bonded to thick fiberglass and has an areospace quality I have not seen. I feel it was worth the expense.

Warm Words
A battery wrap heat shield... Does it live up to the hype? Is it necessary? After cleaning my battery posts with a wire brush, removing debris from the tray and resetting my stereo preferences, power output hasn't changed. So what's the benefit of this product? My battery was purchased about a month prior to this review. Personally, any extention of my battery's overall life or performance (even if it's merely 30 minutes) is a plus. As for other car owners, purchasing this product doesn't prelude the periodic maintenance of a battery's posts and connections.Thermo-Tec's Battery Wrap receives 4 out of 5 stars because the installation of the product was predictable. I can't promise every motorist that this product will live up to its name. But in my application under normal engine speeds (below 2,000 rpm), the heat shield is safe to touch. Infact, my battery is cooler than the stock intake nozzle above it.As for frequent acceleration from 3,000 to 4,000 rpm (where my engine's torque caps off), the heat shield is as hot as the exterior of my battery without protection. Without digital instruments such as a volt meter, I can't make an empirical claim of any improvements.Hobbiests and enthusiasts of car care and dress up mods will certainly appreciate the quality of this product. The instructions are simple. If I could add a disclaimer to this product it would read as follows:If you're considering this product, please carefully examine the area surrounding your battery. Ensure yourself that your connectors won't contact the aluminium shield. Furthermore, the product includes a secondary absorbent material for the bottom of the battery. If your vehicle's battery is securely fit due to a brace or similar device, the absorbent material may not permit proper installation due to changes in height. In conclusion, many motorists will pass on buying this product and I don't blame them. However, those of you considering cold air intakes and similar mods for your DAILY DRIVER... Hold on to all that fuel money and consider this product. You're (likely) more familiar with your engine compartment than MOST commuters. So why not?

Worked well for me.
No idea if this product is really needed but my 2009 Jeep Commander had a heavy felt shield for its H7 battery that had disintegrated from age and is no longer available. Since I got 6 years out of my last 3 year battery I figured it wouldn't hurt. I took a slightly different approach to the instructions. I cut the felt first. Wrapped it around the battery stretching it just a little and used a needle and some dental floss to sew the ends together just to hold it in place. Then cut out the mounting areas a little bit. Then cut the metal film for height. Removed the metal film adhesive backing, wrapped the battery with it and then cut out the mounting areas. To be safe I trimed the metal foil a bit in the areas of the battery cables. I think the felt alone likely matched what the factory had but the foil will keep it in place and provide additional protection. I am happy with how it all turned out and had enough material. I was not able to use the felt for the tray as it seemed to interfere with mounting the battery. In my application I would have needed a longer bolt at a minimum but since the factory didn't have anything there I am fine with it. It also might have held water in the rare case any water made it to the tray which has a drain. I recommend this product.

Not really worth the money in my opinion. Also ...
Not really worth the money in my opinion. Also, make sure the ALUMINUM reflective wrap is trimmed around battery terminals or you'll get fireworks under your hood!

It works
Pricing seems fair, great quality. Used it on a 2003 camry to prolong the life of its battery by reducing heat exposure. The only cons I encounter is the adhesive too weak. To fix this issue, I used a heat gun to heat up the edge of the fiber glass/aluminum wrap where it would overlap before sticking it together.
