RiedelVinum Syrah Glass, Set of 2, Clear

Syrah is my favorite red (shiraz is the same grape, just a different spelling). I held off buying these glasses for a while, making do with other styles and shapes. Now that I have them, I feel complete. Syrah has such big, fruity aromas, it really needs a large glass. Still, a tapered mouth piece is essential, because Syrah tends towards the more delicate berry fruits, rather than the richer stone fruits like the plum notes in Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. These glasses are perfect, especially for capturing the aroma. Syrah also has some of the most beautifully colored legs of any wine (I know they don't contribute to flavor, but they are fun to look at), so it's nice to have a long bowl to appreciate their full display. Say what you want about Riedel, no one makes a better glass, and this is one of the highlights of my collection.

We use these for dinner wine every night when we pour Northern Rhones, shiraz or any Syrah varietal. We also use them with cabernet sauvignon or any of the red Bordeaux blends that we drink at home. They are easy to hand wash and not quite as delicate as some other Riedel stems. Still they are lead crystal and have to be treated with reasonable care. Knocking them over on a granite counter or dropping one on any hard surface is almost certain to destroy it. I have run them through the dish washer with Stem Shine detergent without ever breaking one in the machine. We also do not hesitate to use them when entertaining if Syrah is being poured. Highly recommended.

These are excellent glasses, the shape of this lengthy wine-bulb w/tapered rim traps the aromas in a highly satisfactory manner.

I like these glasses because they are big and delicate--makes me feel all fancy when I use them. Does syrah taste better out of one of these? I dunno. Let's just go with "yes"

Love Riedel glassware and it does make a huge quality difference however too expensive and stem breaks easily as they do on all Riedel.
