These "needle holders" are really nicely made, and the joint is easy to move while not loose at all. They are different from what I think of as locking forceps, mostly because of the crosshatch pattern ground into the jaws. Normally, forceps jaws are deeply grooved across the jaws (like every pair of needlenose pliers I've ever owned. The problem with that is that any wire or small thing I try to grasp either falls into the groove or is cut by the sharp ridges. With these, the moderate crosshatch pattern holds things with minimal damage to them. I used them yesterday to free a smooth utility blade that was stuck in a knife handle, and I felt like I was using a delicate ViceGrips plier. Lots of grip, small scratch on blade (pulling slowly with a lot of force). I work in a hospital, and these are the closest I've seen to the expensive tools surgeons use. And the gold highlight makes them stand out in a tool box or drawer. (I've purchased 2 or 3 of these for upstairs, kitchen, garage.) Very Good Job!
