Out of square, twice.
Did my homework between Starrett and iGaging, felt it was worth the shot as many reviews said the iGaging was comparable for a fraction of the cost. Received my first iGaging combination square set and did a "Line test" to check for square, it failed miserably. Gave them the benefit of the doubt and requested an exchange. 2nd combo square also failed albeit by a smaller margin, still unacceptable. I'll pay the same money and get a single head Starrett and buy the other heads over time. A square isn't worth a darn if it ain't square.

An excellent, well made and extremely accurate combination square at a third of the cost of the "top of the line" brand
I already had one of these 12" combination squares, but it was the one without the angle guage or the centering attachment. I needed both and in my opinion (I previouly had the Starrett combination square and so far as I can tell, this one (a) is at least its equal accuracy-wise, and (b) this one is more heavily built and finished VERY well - and the ENTIRELY SUBJECTIVE impression of quality I get from this one is slightly higher than that which I got from Starrett. (I'd still have it but I had a friend who does woodworking as a hobby and when we did projects together he often told me how much he liked the Starrett. When he retired I gave it to him, and he reports that it still works perfectly, so I'm NOT knocking it).And yes there is probably no way that the fact that this one costs just a little more than a third of the price of the Starrett wouldn't influence my opinion. When I get around to it I will buy the 24" version of this square, and in the unlikely event that I were to need yet another 12" combination square I would definitely buy it again. I have also recommended it to friends and family. The only "nit-picky" negative point I can come up with about this square is that my other one came with its certificate of calibration. This one didn't.But taking both of them to a friend who is a machineinst, he could find NO problems with its accuracy (and he must have liked it because he bought one after measuring mine). It is highly accurate, very well finished, and sturdily built - and it comes with a very nice case.

Excellent Value - Great for Woodworkers
Overall, this is a really nice combo square and a great value for the money. It has a nicely machined cast iron head and satin stainless rule that is easy to read. The center finder is a really nice addition as well and I like thatI really only have three nits to pick with this tool: 1) The blade is not 100% square to the head. When checking with my machinist's square, there's a sliver of light visible where the blade meets the head BUT I'm not able to slip a 0.0015" (1-1/2 thousandths) feeler gauge into the gap. For the size of this square, that's acceptable to me, and it's easy to correct with a tiny amount of work. 2) They got a little sloppy with the glue when they installed the level vial and there's a thin smear visible on one side of the vial, but it has no effect on the utility of the vial. 3) The center finder isn't "quite" 90°, however so long as the rule is centered, this makes no difference.Overall, I'm very pleased with this set and the quality is very good, and at less than 1/2 the price of a PEC or Starrett. Would recommend.ETA: After writing this review I discovered that one end of the rule wasn't perpendicular to the sides and was out of square by approximately 1/64". Since one side was long, I was able to fix mine easily and would still recommend this square.

Not with out a flaw or two but worth the money and it has a nice finish.
As I slowly start stepping up my Woodworking game I need more accurate tools. The combo square I bought at a second hand shop 6 years ago was never very accurate and the casting on tbe holder was aluminum. So not wanting to spend over $100 for a Starrett I though a mid grade square will do and if I like it I'll eventually get a few other sizes types. With that said, I'm on the fence with this one. As for fit and finish it is nice. The biggest thing is outta the box it is fairly accurate but that depends on how critical you are. I'd say it was off by about .002, maybe more, maybe less. This can be fixed and I am not worried about it. What I don't like is when you pull the ruler out of the base/holder, good luck getting it back in. You have to use a small nail or screwdriver or similar to move the little piece inside the grove to line up with the grove of the ruler. Even still it is a royal pain to line up. Not a quick task by any means. Part of what makes it so difficult is there is only a few threads that grab on the set screws. One 1/4 turn too many and it comes out.Worth the money? Sure, but there may be better options.Who knows, maybe I got a defective one.-TJ

Great for the money
I don't write reviews very often, I think this number three for me. But after using cheap aluminum squares which tend to lie to you after a few months, I decided I was ready to move up to a good quality combination square. I read all the negative reviews but decided to give the iGaging 12" 4R combination square a try. First things first it is not a Starrett, but it doesn't cost as much either. That said it is very true. It is rough around the edges, not much time was taken to clean up the casting and milling marks which leaves hard, sharp rough edges. After un-boxing and checking for square I spent 30 minutes with a medium grit oil stone on all the edges going over them very lightly. I also cleaned the powder coating off all the moving parts and I now have a truly accurate square that works with ease and is pleasure to use. As a hand tool wood worker I am used to having to tune up anything that I buy, whether its and antique or brand new, so stoning down the sharp/rough edges and cleaning off the powder coating did not bother me. If you are willing to put a little very light effort into this square you will end up with a tool that is a real pleasure to use. If not move up the to PEC brand.

Broke after about a month. Would give negative stars if possible
The finish quality is subpar but it was accurate and dead square so I don't know..Edit: the retainer piece that holds the blade tight broke after about a month of use. Unless you completely baby this product it's basically a throwaway tool with an expensive price tag.

Well made
Whilst I do not have a need at the moment for a precision instrument such as this it is nice to have in reserve. I paid $100 for this set and feel I got my money's worth. If I worked in machining then yes, I would invest in a Starrett or Brown & Sharpe, etc. This set allows me to feel as though I have invested in a quality tool that will give me the precision I need without questioning its accuracy
