Gets the job done while away from the home [animation] studio
This product doesn't get a straight 5 stars because of a minor portability flaw. It does fit in my bag, but it's a bit tight - I use a leather briefcase. I'm just glad it fits at all given how thick it is (there are thinner lightboxes out there, but this one came highly reviewed). The light is bright enough to see through the amount of pages I use (2-4 at a time). It's super light, I don't even realize it's in my bag.Paired up with a thin metal ACME peg bar (taped at the bottom) and I have myself a functional animation workstation. I've been using this kind of set up for a couple of weeks now and it's a godsend.I'd recommend this product if you need a portable animation station in a pinch or while on the go.

EXCELLENT PRODUCT FOR THE PRICE
I was searching for a light tracer for a while. I did a lot of research before I bought the Artograph. I read a lot of reviews where people were saying it did not work for tracing jeans and tracing 2 pieces of paper. Well duh this is meant for simple projects. If you are a professional then spend the money that does the work you want, don't blame this product. This is excellent, the light is bright, very light, I did not have anything so far what I use it for not work. You get what you pay for and this is well worth the money. Like I said if you want to pay nothing and what it to do miracles this is not it. But if you are using it for everyday activity or letting the kids use it, it is perfect. Great price, great value.

Surprisingly decent'ish
We had a big, old, clunky, steel-cased light table that worked really well, but was unmanageably big and heavy. This table was intended to be a supplement to it- something smaller for smaller work and something relatively portable to allow for relocation when necessary. As other reviews have indicated, it is NOT a tank- it is cheap plastic through and through. It flexes a bit when you press or lean on it and I really don't know how the housing would survive a four inch fall, BUT for the cost, it works fine. The backlight will not blind you by any stretch, but it is bright enough to carry through most work pieces. The light is better-distributed throughout the table than I thought it would be. Yes, there is a hot spot at the bulb location that cools toward the edges, but it's not bad. It is very light which is good if you don't leave it setup somewhere- light enough you can use it on your lap, although likely not recommended. I believe it is manufactured in the US, so that's a plus for those of us that love our country and try to think in domestically-sustainable terms!

For wedding envelope help? This thing's the best!
I volunteered to learn calligraphy and address my daughter's wedding invitation envelopes. I found out that one of the tricks for successful envelopes is to use guidelines under the envelope and a lightbox. I went to the art store to purchase the lightbox, but the ones I found at the art store cost way too much. A year earlier at my church's thrift sale, I had bought an old metal lightbox that had been used to view x-rays, but it was big and heavy, and ugly and didn't inspire me to come home and practice with it after a long brutal day at work. I found instructions on how to build light boxes which would have been a fun project, but that's time I needed to spend on this OTHER project of practicing the calligraphy! Then I remembered that you can find most anything you can want on Amazon.com, and sure enough, LIGHTBOXES! This one is great! I recommend it. There was a smaller one available, but I like the size of this one, since it's more like writing on a desk, and I "mask" the extra lighted area with a piece of cardboard so it doesn't shine in my eyes while I practice on envelope-sized scatch-paper. I've already used it to write some of the escort cards, and now I'm practicing writing the names and addresses with it until the invitations arrive. I've also been working on making a map for the guests to find the venue, by tracing a boring map and adding my own little touches and landmarks. This box is light, and cute, and has a long enough cord so that I'm not tied to the wall plug! It has a handy little off-on switch on one side. I'm going to see about getting an inexpensive tilting laptop computer stand to put underneath it as a desk. I think with these ideas, my project will be a piece of cake! I love the little lightbox and can imagine using it just for fun after the wedding is just a fond memory. When I finish the envelopes I'm going to try my hand at making a pretty marriage certificate with maybe some pressed flowers, and put it in a frame for a gift for my daughter and new son-in-law.(If I get good enough at this, maybe I'll try using calligraphy as a side-job! I hear you can make upwards of $3 an envelope if you're doing it for somebody who isn't your next of kin! Sweet!!!) Wish me luck!

Very good, compact lightbox
As an artist coping with very little work space, I have been very pleased with this lightbox. It works well. Excellent for paste ups, very good for tracing. Wish I had space for a much larger one. Lightboxes are so helpful in the studio!I am updating this review: I purchased this Artograph LightTracer 2 Light Box several years ago. As of this date, Jan 2017, it is still working in perfect condition. As for how long the light bulb lasts--well, mine still works after all this time. However, I do not leave it on for hours at a time; I turn it off when I walk away from my work. I cannot, therefore, vouch for how difficult it might be to replace it.

It is really nicely constructed. The light is really bright
I am really loving my Artograph! One advantage that was mentioned to me by a local artist is that it makes it so convenient to retrace your drawings and artwork that you become more adventurous and less fearful of taking chances and making "mistakes".I use my Artograph every week, sometimes multiple times a week. It is really nicely constructed. The light is really bright; you can easily see your drawing through watercolor paper. This was definitely worth the money I paid for it and honestly I wish I had of bought it ten years ago when I first wanted to get one. For me, using a window to trace my drawings does not compare; using a window as a lightbox is difficult because you put so much strain on your arm, especially with more detailed drawings. Yes it will work in a pinch, but an Artograph is a really nice long-term solution!

Easy to use, strong light.
Just a simple, easy to use light box. The kid enjoys this light box for tracing, drawing and as a nightlight! Great value for the money as other boxes have been known to cost more.

Does the job
I purchased this as an inexpensive alternative to more expensive light boxes. It's a little bulky, but works very well, and I love the option on the switch to dull the light to check out how the current drawing is progressing. It's very handy for finalizing designs for things like tattoo flash.
