Review: As good as all of the reviews claim. - I am one of those people who irons every morning so I'm a bit picky about how well my iron works. I have been using one of those teflon coated irons but it died recently and that sent me on the quest for a new iron. I liked that the teflon coating slid over every fabric and never sticks. I was expecting to have to get something really expensive but I found so many positive reviews for this iron that I decided to give it a whirl even though it has a steel base. In using the iron, I find that it glides just as easily over cloth as my teflon coated one did so my one biggest concern was a non-issue. I also like that it chimes when it reaches the temperature that you set and find that it heats up very quickly. I often will wear clothes where the top and the bottom have to be ironed at different temperatures so I find the chime to be very handy. Some people complained about the steam dial being too easy to accidentally nudge, but I don't find that to be the case at all. The iron pushes out a LOT of steam compared to my last iron and it does an awesome job of getting the wrinkles out of clothing. The water reservoir is significantly larger than my last iron and that is a good thing given the amount of steam it can push out. The only non-positive comments I would have are related to button placement and cord wrapping. I am right handed and find that placing the "blast of steam" button on the left and the spray button on the right is backwards as I tend to want to blast steam more often than spray water. I find that I am always pushing the wrong button. That being said, this unit pushes out so much steam that I rarely use the steam button. There is no way to wrap the power cord around the heel and the back of the handle (which is how you wrap the cord on my last iron). The only way to wrap the cord is from the back of the handle to the nose of the iron (where the water filler door is located) and therein lies my complaint. I find that the water filler door has a little lip that you pull to open it and the cord catches on this lip when you wrap the cord. The lid then flips open and I know that one of these days, the lid will just snap off when I'm wrapping up the cord to put the iron away. Minor gripes, admittedly, for an otherwise outstanding and reasonably priced product.
Review: Better than Rowenta PowerDuo - After suffering through three years with a Rowenta PowerDuo, I finally decided to cut my loss (over $100 for the Rowenta) and find a new iron that didn't drip and spit all over my clothes every time I used it. I read through dozens of product reviews, and the Black and Decker just seemed to be the best overall. The negative comments about the somewhat flimsy cover on the water spout, and how easy it is to accidentally move the steam dial (along with a relatively small water reservoir) are true, but those are relatively minor details that don't detract from the overall performance - and value - of this iron. It's not too heavy (it's actually a bit lighter than my old Rowenta), works for hours with no problem and rarely drips (an occasional drop or two, and only after heavy continuous use) and has NEVER spit like my old Rowenta did constantly. I've had this iron for close to a year now, and love it. I tend to do laundry in big batches, which means I'm usually ironing a couple of weeks worth of shirts and pants (primarily cotton, cotton/poly blends, and polyester), and have the iron going for two or three hours straight. The Black & Decker has always worked perfectly, no matter if it's a quick touch up of one small item, or powering through two or three dozen items of differing materials and weights. It heats up quickly, and adjusts temperature up or down even faster as you switch fabric settings to keep you going through a pile of wrinkled clothes quickly and easily. I've had lots of irons over the years, and this one is at least as good as any I've ever had. It's a great value, and for most people, is the iron to go with.

## Features

- Digital Temperature Control - The clear-view LCD screen makes it easy to customize fabric and steam settings. Plus, the screen will flash “READY” once the iron is preheated to the selected temperature
- Stainless Steel Soleplate - The durable, heavy-duty soleplate glides smoothly over all fabric types to press out wrinkles in no time
- Variable Temperature and Steam Controls - Independent steam and temperature controls give you the ability to customize each setting separately for the best results across all fabric types
- 3-Way Auto Shutoff - For added peace of mind, the iron shuts off when left unattended for 30 seconds on its side or soleplate, and after 8 minutes on the heel rest

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the advantage of digital??**
A: It is faster and more true to desired temp for appropriate fabric(s). The 'auto off' isn't necessary for me as I am old and was brought up to shut things off when I have finished!

**Q: I don't see the wattage anywhere in this description. Anyone know the wattage of this iron? Thanks!**
A: I was going to give the same answer as Jeanette Peterson. Love my iron! I've had it for about 5 years and use it daily for quilting. I am also a seamstress doing wedding gowns etc. It has never failed me.

**Q: Is it lightweight**
A: Not really lightweight but not too heavy. I think it is a really good iron for the price. I use it almost every day.

**Q: What is the weight of the iron**
A: With water in it it weighs 3lbs, its a little heaver than my last iron but if you ask me it works better with a little more weight to it....I have some carpel tunnel and it doesn't bother me at all...I really like this iron.....

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Irons quite well!
*by B***R on May 15, 2014*

I wasn't expecting too much from this iron. I've had a Rowenta for the past 14 years. It still works but is starting to scorch things on the cotton setting. I wasn't ready to spend the big bucks to replace it. Seeing so many positive reviews and the reasonable price, I decided to take a chance on this iron. I use an iron a lot for sewing and quilting, so my performance benchmark is pretty high. This iron surprised me - I ironed a difficult to press shirt of my husband's and the B&D did a great job in a short time. There's plenty of steam and the thing glides over the fabric. Tight spots smooth out with ease. It goes around buttons perfectly. I was impressed with how quickly it heats and I actually like the digital display more than I thought I would. One pass completely eliminates wrinkles just like my Rowenta did in its prime. The primary reason for 4-star rating is the water filler cover is poorly designed and I can see how it could easily break. I am babying mine hoping it will hold up. On the highest steam level it gobbles water, but that's to be expected. The direction of the water dispenser overshoots where I want to moisten the fabric, but not a big deal. I also find the steam dial to be in an awkward place, but that could just be me. In conclusion, for the money this is an impressive iron. I'll update after more time goes by since I've only had this for a short time. Edit: July 3, 2019 On my fifth year of using this iron. I still love it. The settings on the display are true to the fabric being pressed. Just today I pressed some polyester sheers without a pressing cloth and they came out perfect using the poly setting. Through the years, I have always unplugged the iron when finished and many days it has been plugged in all day into the night when I am making a quilt or sewing clothes. The little flap for adding water is still attached - have used a light touch with it because it is not strong. This iron has never spat water or discolored any fabric being pressed - never had a scorch or melt. I believe I have put it through many hours of rigorous use - sometimes working weeks at a time from very early morning to late at night. I would recommend this iron and would buy it again. Not sure why others have had a bad experience with it. Will update again if something changes with the performance of this iron, but until then I have been both impressed and very pleased with my purchase.
