Or will I have to remove it to mount it on the window?** A: The windows in my apartment did not come with screens, I bought adjustable window screens for each window. I bought this fan and placed it in the window. It did not fit securely/correctly in the window with the screen. I paid for a cheap screen and cut it to the size of the fan,then placed the fan in the window-a perfect fit (following the installing instructions). Which ever window you place the fan,the screen will also be there. Good luck **Q: Can you mount this fan vertically instead of horizonitally?** A: i have very nice Pella windows. this fan is so thick i returned it. i would have had to remove my screen completely, and even then it stuck out the front so much I couldn't close the blinds. the other issue is there's no screen anywhere in the fan (i don't think any of these window fans do) so you are going to bring in every bug that gets sucked in. and if you leave it in the window off, all the bugs can climb right in You can see just from the pic how wide the slots are. **Q: The track that the window slides into is 24" wide (1.5" deep), but measuring the window itself when closed is 23" wide. Will it fit?** A: With the pleated section and expansion panel removed, the fan measures 24" wide. You will need to get past the 23" wide inner dimension of your window. Perhaps you can angle it in one side first then square it up, but I doubt it since your depth is so shallow. If you are desperate to get a fan to fit, you could cut away 1/2" of the main housing on each side with a hacksaw.
