No, kids would enjoy the cash register even if it doesn't talk.

It's pretty light. No more than a couple of pounds, if that.

Does this cash register require batteries?

It requires a button battery in order to make the beep noise. Super unsafe and should not be used in children toys.

I bought this for our son when he was 2. He is now 26 & it's been through 7 grandchildren & an adult fell on it & broke it. Is it still as sturdy?

Definitely it IS sturdy. If an adult falls on a toy, mainly if he is a big or heavy person, of course he will cause anything to break. That does not mean the toy is not sturdy.
