Chuck Berry (Guitar Recorded Versions)

Great book, but I would have liked a couple of other songs
This book is a great break down of Berry's specific songs, lick by lick, chord by chord, and it has Tab! For me, however, I was hoping for some different songs. I don't know how they pick these songs. I guess it's like many other guitar books: there are some big hits (which many people already learned anyway), some real oddballs (which many people don't care about or want to learn) and then a few of the ones that stick out that you can't find anywhere and you want to learn. For me, these are (I've been playing other things now, not this book yet, but it looks great and accurate): "Promised Land," "Let It Rock," "Little Queenie," "I'm Talking 'Bout You." And then there's the one or two real gems that you really wanted that aren't there. For me, it's "Nadine," and probably others. Still, it's the only book on Berry like this I've seen and I'm really looking forward to digging into it when I can. I love everything Berry did and will surely get into most, if not all, of this book. The songs in it are:Almost GrownAround and AroundBack In The U.S.A.Beautiful Delilah (did he even write that one - I'll have to check)CarolGuitar BoogieI'm Talking About YouJohnny B. GoodeLet It RockLittle QueenieMaybelleneMemphis, TennesseeNo Particular Place to GoThe Promised LandRoll Over, BeethovenSchool Days (Ring! Ring! Goes the Bell)Sweet Little Rock and RollerAll that said, it's a lot of songs, and a lot of good songs. I'd switch out a few for a few others to give 5 stars is all. Most people would give it 5. I'm just particular. Great book.

The true father of rock guitar.
Chuck Berry is the man!! And this book is great for learning to play many of his classic songs. It's a great tool for beginners in figuring out how he played a lot of the famous guitar licks that everybody plays, and a nice thing for more advanced players in learning how the songs were played. It really helps you to appreciate that no one had done these things before him. Chuck Berry deserves more credit in Rock music than he will ever receive.

Chuck Berry Classic Guitar Riffs on Tablauture
The tablature are quite easy to read. There is an introduction to some of his guitar tricks, so you won't be researching online for guitar signature to understand them.

tab book review
Not very accurate tabs for the regular Johnny B Good song that everyone is so familiar with, there were many tabs for the B and I think high E string that were just different music from what is commonly thought of as Johnny B Good. Not very good tab music for that song anyway. The common version has lots of fill with major barr chords with pinky stretches, this tab music did not have this included.

Not what it should be, but don't blame Fred !
Despite what the review of 2002 says about this book having transcriptions by Fred Sokolow, there is an inferior version of this Hal Leonard book which I received. My version is transcribed by Addi Booth according to the inside pages (note the book I wanted should have the Fred Sokolow name in the top left corner beneath the triangle on the front cover. So this book has no help as reviewed in 2002 i.e. "guide to understanding the various symbols used in the tablature and then goes on to discuss, in detail, how it is applied to analysing Chuck Berry's music. This is done with examples of how his licks are put together and then built up to form the basis of his soloing style." In fact it does not even have the Guitar Notation Legend which should be on page 120 - it is BLANK ! After telling the Book Depository about this I was refunded and told to keep the book. Amazon were not so responsive in that they fail to grasp that they have a review which misleads you into thinking that the book you are buying is transcribed etc by Fred Sokolow. They still maintain the 2002 review is within the guidelines, which I don't doubt if it was attached to the right book version.

Disappointed
The book has a washed out look almost as if it’s been photo copied. Was supposed to be transcribed by Fred Sokolov it isn’t and as a result the transcriptions are not accurate. Save your money don’t buy this.

Solid book for this legend
I had this book years ago, lost it during a move and just purchased again. The transcriptions are accurate and the book has a good mix of songs. There's a lot of material to break down, lick-by-lick, worth the price....
