I'm very satisfied with my investment.
My stepson bought this and says this:I don't have a lot of experience with drum mics, but this was an upgrade from a CAD budget drum mic and it made drum recording a lot more satisfying and easier to try to mix. It's really sturdy and looks great. So far so good after one month.

Best for live playing; not good for recording
I purchased this mic for a recording project. It is more omni-directional, even when close mic'ed, than I expected. So for recording it is not a mic that I would recommend. For live playing its pretty good. The problem in my case is I play mostly acoustic, unmic'ed so I don't have much of an opportunity to use it where it is best suited. I did extensively test it in my home studio and it very nicely picks up snare drum nuances, and especially when I am playing with brushes.Among my favorite features is the very clever mounting system that attaches to metal rims and some wood hoops. If you are planning to use it with wood hoops on a snare drum they have to be the straight style, not shaped hoops like Yamaha and some earlier PDP hoops. In fact the clamp comes close (but not quite able) to affix to a bass drum hoop, I also love the sturdy carrying case, and the interesting way that the mic uses a floating type mount system to hold it in place to minimize noise. Had this mic been more uni-directional that would be the perfect mount to use for recording. Finally, the price: this is an absolute bargain if you are looking for a semi-pro quality snare drum microphone for live playing. In that scenario I highly recommend it over SM-57 and other commonly used mics. But this is definitely not for recording where you cant to absolutely isolate each track.

Awesome Snare Mic
I’m so glad I found this Mic. Just finished recording some tracks and this works great on a snare top end for recording. And you can’t beat the price. This is a solid mic and once you hold it you’ll know why it is made extremely well.

Worth it!!!
So far so Good---- I purchased this Avantone ADM Dynamic Snare Drum Microphone approx. 2 months ago. I play out just about every weekend and this Mic as well as my entire drum set stays in a trailer. Sounds excellent every night, clip is surprisingly steardy so far.Case is a nice feature. Really seams like this will last a long time. I truly recommend this Mic as a stage ready Mic.--- .Take3ri.com Drummer

The Avantone snare mic is (wait for it) shure to deliver!
I bought this microphone about 3-4 years ago as an alternative to the typical Shure SM-57, the workhorse of the music industry. While I have no issues with Shure, I wanted to achieve a different snare drum recording sound. I've been using Shure SM-57's for most of my life and it's killer reputation is well-deserved. However, I wanted to branch out. I've read several articles, reviews, and specs because I'm not rich and want to achieve the best possible recording and live sound. I'm not even sure how I found out about the Avantone Mic, but it has been a blessing. It comes with a stable shock mount for the snare rim; it's also well-protected and won't slip off the snare after several long hours. As far as sound it concerned, it produces a slightly deeper punch and attack than the 57. Naturally, sound is very subjective and I'm sure someone will disagree with me in the next 5 minutes. The specs are similar, but I do hear a difference and always prefer a somewhat "beefier" sound from the snare. I try not to spend hours using EQ to get a decent drum sound. Think about it--if you have to EQ a drum sound for several hours, then one is compensating for frequencies... In short, this mic is excellent for both live and studio; the price won't break the bank either. I hope Avantone continues to create Mics because they certainly know what they're doing. Rock on!

Only used it once but really loved the sound of the snare recording
Only used it once but really loved the sound of the snare recording. The only downside is the drum mount is still a bit too in the way for my drummer, but no worries, we put it on a stand.Drummer was thrilled with the sound of his snare.
