Great flavor
Great flavor.I've purchased all the flavors by Eastman, but the Hickory is my favorite. Very dissapointed they don't have for online purchase, but luckily I had some left from last year to use on first deer this season. It may be slightly cheaper to make your own marinade, but the prepackaged Hickory with the cure is convenient for me to just portion it out and then I can add whatever I want to each batch, so I can have bib, molasses, teriyaki, & just plain hickory (the seasoning itself is good alone) and while other brands I've tried are just as good, most are larger quantities, which = less per pkg., but costs more up front. I would caution that even 1 tsp. of the cure per lb. can make some pieces turn out a little too salty (It could just be that I've only ever used venison & might not be as much of an issue with beef, but I find adding more water than called for helps and allows for using Tupperware instead of plastic bags to have all the meat covered). I also marinade overnight for 8 or so hours and my standard round 5 stackable tray dehydrator takes approximately 24 hours for a batch to be done. I haven't had a chance to use this kit with ground meat and jerky/sausage gun yet, as that was my original intention when I first started buying these kits, but the results I've had with regular cuts lets me know it will be just as good. One of these years I'll have to harvest a deer just for tenderloins & jerky, but I always seem to have more and more family waiting for any extra ;)

Not sure why some folks find this only 1 star
Ok after reading a number of reviews I think everyone's taste is personal. So beware both negative and positive reviews buy a box, prep the meat and decide. My review is 5 stars because this seasoning is not too salty, hickory can be enjoyed, and the box says 5lbs - it's up to individual taste. Game may well need additional spice to overcome the flavor. Beef is spot on. I have used this many times with beef and always get reproducible results.Put the powders into a large spice shaker with large holes. Sprinkle on each layer of meat in a nonmetallic tossing bin. When finished make sure to toss, toss, toss, to coat every pieces. Oh - if you slice meat more than 1/4 inch, better pour more Eastman in to make sure to cure correctly. Refrigerate 24 hours.Dry for 4-8 hours depending on the thickness. Enjoy it. Adjust on next batch.I just bought four more boxes as my friends and family know my jerky and always ask for more.

Awesome Sauce!
I've been curing meat for snacks and long-term food storage, and I thought this flavor sounded interesting. It's very good, and I'd recommend it to anyone. What I really liked is that the meat doesn't end up too salty, as has happened with most of the other cures I've purchased. I used the "lighter tasting" instructions and you can taste whiskey, peppers, a little garlic, and some type of savory herbs. What I don't taste is a bunch of salt! I will be trying some more Eastmand Outdoors seasonings for sure!

Good Flavor but a Bit Bland
The cure that comes with this package is great. I used the recommended amount and the meat cured up nicely and a bit more quickly than others that I've used. However, while the spice has a good flavor, using the recommended amount produced some pretty bland results. I've made two more batches since then with double the seasoning that the recipe called for and I must say that it was much better. If you take that advice, be sure to only double the seasoning and not the cure. Also, be sure to read the fine print! At the very bottom of the instructions it says to add 1 tablespoon of your favorite whiskey in with the seasoning. I forgot this on my last batch and it definitely was not as good as the one before it.

Best flavor- best jerky
Bought this and another flavor for my husband for Christmas (we haven't tried the other flavor yet), just made some deer jerky and it was the most amazing jerky I've ever had. Screw buying it from the store anymore, I'm just going to make sure we fill our deer tags so I can continue to make this stuff. The flavor is unbeatable. Follow the intructions and you will not be disappointed

Tasteless product
My package arrived containing an instruction booklet, one packet of seasoning and one packet of cure. According to the directions, the entire packet of cure and seasoning was to be used for 5 pounds of meat. I trimmed the meat (in my case london broil, 4.86 pounds) and sliced thin for jerky strips. Then, in small batches, all of the meat was combined with both packets and hand tossed and mixed in a non-metallic bowl until thoroughly coated. The meat was then allowed to cure covered in the refrigerator for 24 hours. After 24 hours of cure time, the meat strips were placed onto the Nesco jerky machine trays and "cooked" at 160 degrees for 10 hours. I got nice dried jerky, quite tasteless, with no discernible salty or BBQ flavor of any kind. sort of like eating just plain dried beef. What a waste of time and effort, my beef and my money. So if you want tasty jerky, all I can say from my experience is to avoid this product.

It is everything it is advertised to be, and very easy to use if you follow the directions!
This proud that produced amazing flavor in our beef jerky! There are several ways to use it, either as a dry rub, or as a full flavor rub. We added liquid and made the full flavor rub and it was just awesome! We will definitely buy this again!

Yum!
I ordered this flavor as well as the company's Mequite flavor. We used this for making venison jerky & I'm very happy with the amount of seasoning and overall how it smells and flavors the food. I was happy to find a well made seasoning for the jerky and will definately purchase this item again. Additionally, the cost is very reasonable.

Delicious!
I put this seasoning pack in my husbands holiday stocking for Christmas 2020. We made elk jerky using this flavor pack in the new year (2021) and it was absolutely delicious! Thank you very much for a great product!
