Wish There Were More!
I got the first book in this series as a BookBub deal, and immediately came back to buy the bundle. Oddly, I liked the first book least of the three, which tells you how much I enjoyed the second and third books!I'm not sure what words to use to distinguish between writing that feels like it never quite came to life and writing that does what it's supposed to do — steps out of the way between the reader and the story. These fall into the latter category -- perfect to period, without that getting in the way of a modern reader's comprehension in the least. The characters are endearing, as are the forays into scientific, financial, and theatrical London in Victoria's reign. The plots are absorbing, and resolve very nicely. And I have a real fondness for works which take a familiar secondary fictional character and let us see them from their own perspective. (In the Holmes world, Laurie R King and Emma Jane Holloway are wonderful for this; I also found fascinating Jennifer Paynter’s The Forgotten Sister, a retelling of Pride and Prejudice from Mary Bennet's perspective.) I truly enjoyed this alternative view of Professor Moriarty, and Holmes' amusing misperception of him from the start.I’m hoping that Anna Castle is moved to write more of this series. I have the feeling I’ll be back to re-read these first three in a year or two. In the meantime, I’ve got one of her Francis Bacon mysteries that’s been gathering virtual dust on my kindle shelves — think I’ll give that a look.

Great
Wonderful characters. Full of mystery that only 'Sherlock Holmes' stories can convey. Hilarity, drama, and a little romance all through this series, yet, each book is completely different. Loved them.

Entertaining light reading
Enjoyable way to while away idle hours, but a short series of only three leaves a bit of a thirsty hangover.
