Wild Planet gives us a little more tuna meat than other brands of 66.5oz tuna cans
Wild Planet does so many things right: (1)Other brands of 66.5oz tuna cans will cheat us a little on the quantity of tuna meat but Wild Planet actually gives us a little bit more than the 66.5oz claimed on the tuna can. (2)Wild Planet gives us a better ratio of solid chunks to flaky mush than smaller tuna cans of most brands. (3)Wild Planet certifies that their tuna is skipjack tuna and not some other higher-mercury species of "Chunk Light" tuna such as various bonitos, kawa kawa, dogtooth tuna (tongol), or yellowfin tuna. (4)Wild Planet tuna cans are BPA-free. (5)Wild Planet satisfies the environmentalists, conservationists, and animal rights activists by certifying that their tuna is dolphin-safe, turtle-safe, and sustainable because their tuna is caught one by one by fishing pole instead of lifted up in huge numbers by longline fishing nets. This has the beneficial side effect of keeping their skipjack tuna fish smaller in size and lower in mercury than the largest skipjack tunas.HOWEVER, Wild Planet does one thing wrong: (1)Wild Planet uses "spring water" instead of "vegetable broth," which is usually just soybean juice plus onion juice plus carrot juice plus cabbage juice or celery juice or celeriac juice. The 3 most popular brands of canned tuna added spring water to their tuna in the past [and StarKist brand still adds spring water to their low sodium and very low sodium tuna cans] but these Big 3 tuna brands now add vegetable broth to their canned tuna instead. Why? Their stated reason is that vegetable broth is a seasoning that improves the flavor of their tuna. I'm convinced that the real reason is to prevent the formation of cancer-causing nitrosamines. [Salted fish products are known to be high in cancer-causing nitrosamines]. The U.S. government has laws that require bacon manufacturers to reduce the amount of nitrosamines in their bacon products and has laws that encourage tuna canners to add vegetable broth instead of spring water to their canned tuna (Please click "Comment" below).Expect to receive your tuna cans severely dented. That's the nature of doing business with Amazon, especially for giant food cans.

Great tuna
Very good tuna but it's a lot for home use. Great if you are having a party.

The Good, Bad, and Overall...
The Good: You get a much better deal than buying the smaller cans in the store. Tuna is large flakes and easy to break apart with a fork. The Bad: It makes for a heavy shipment and I lost one can due to Amazon packers rushing and not packing properly (not a dis' on the product). There is water in it but that is to be expected. It filled a small jar and the stray cats approve of the water content.Overall: Great for making a large batch of tuna salad or any other dish. This will feed me for 2 weeks while at work and subscribe and save makes this such a better deal to boot. Recommend.

Just right
First time ordering such a large can of tuna, but it worked out perfectly! I feel good about the responsible fishing approach and the portion size can is just what I need to get me through the month. Actually, I could use a can and a half but this is plenty. Solid pack in water and the flavor is perfect. This will be a regular purchase for me and my new lifestyle menus. Purchase with confidence!

Wild Planet Wild Skipjack Light Tuna in Spring Water, 66.5 Ounce can.
First off, I did receive a quick and painless refund for this tuna and would not write a review if I didn't feel it was important. When I opened the box that this tuna came in, it was unprotected but was not dented so I figured I got lucky and went ahead and opened it. My plan was to portion it out and freeze most of it. Upon opening the can I was hit by the smell, a powerful, sort of sour, metallic, acrid, acid like smell. I dipped the tip of my pinky finger in the liquid an tasted it and regret that decision. My tongue began to tingle and the metallic taste was very strong. The meat was very loosely packed which is often the case with skipjack and chunk light and the meat was just mushy. I had to remove the kitchen trash can from inside the house because it was so strong. Buying this packed in Vietnam product was a lapse in judgement on my part in the first place because of their own fishing industry is rife with unsustainable practices, poaching and other illegal activity like human trafficking etc. I must also say that buying food items on Amazon is a real crap shoot, mostly because of haphazard wasteful packaging which results in frequent product damage but also because of a lack of quality control and safety assurances. Food products sold on Amazon do not undergo the same safety measures that a grocery would use. I don't know what the conditions are in the cannery where this product was packed but the tuna was almost certainly not in good condition. I like my tuna but will only buy certified sustainable that is packed in the US or Canada, I'll just have it less often because of the price.

It's a good deal...
After reading the other reviews stating how much water is in these cans, I was pleasantly surprised by how much meat is actually in the can. The water is actually quite minimal, though it might not look like it at first. After pouring off the water, the can is nearly full with tuna meat. In any case, the net weight is the weight of just the meat itself, so you're getting just over 4 pounds of tuna meat in each can. This is the equivalent of over 13 of the small 5 oz cans.I can't tell too much difference between the taste of this tuna compared to Starkist/BumbleBee... tuna is tuna to me... but other family members say it does have a slightly different taste, not bad though. I've never had the small cans of this brand either, so I can't comment on any differences there. It does seem to freeze ok in ziplock baggies... I haven't noticed any differences in texture/taste after freezing.

Good value
Skipjack tuna is said to have the lowest mercury content of all canned tuna. I am in my third trimester and like to eat fish a few times a week to get enough DHA/omegas. This bulk container is great because I can make a big batch of tuna salad and freeze the rest into portions, defrost, and make more tuna salad at a later date. This tuna freezes and defrosts in the fridge well with no noticeable difference in taste or texture vs making immediately upon opening the can.

Yummy and nutritious cat food replacement.
EDIT: The price has more than doubled since I wrote this review. I will find something else. This is too expensive now.I bought this for my cats in place of canned cat food. They love it! I got 8 small containers out of it that I'll freeze and take out as needed. Can't beat the price for no salt added tuna.

this brand has made our entire family sick multiple times
I thought this brand was good quality based on the brand and 'sourcing' however I used this 64 oz large quantity brand in my dog's homemade food and they were sick every time after eating it. Their ears would become very hot and red and they would pant for a long time. I then purchased smaller cans of the same brand from Whole Foods to eat on my own and found I was having the same "allergic" reaction as they were! Very bizarre as the ingredients say only "tuna". Upon further research, I see that this brand is sourced and packed in Vietnam. When factories are in other countries, especially underdeveloped countries, there are a lot less safety inspections/ regulations and we are proof of that!Update: DO NOT PURCHASE ANY CANNED FISH FROM THIS BRAND! I purchased two 5 oz cans of Wild Planet skipjack tuna from Whole Foods and upon eating immediately became very sick, just as my dogs did with this Albacore tuna. I went to my physician and was told the fish was most likely stored incorrectly and had bacterial growth which caused us all to have Scombroid Poisoning which explains why we all became very ill very quickly. This is highly disturbing as we became ill off of two different kinds of tuna from two separate vendors from this same company, which means their supply is widely poisoned. I have filed an official complaint with the FDA and will be sending them samples. I have also contacted Wild Planet and informed them of these actions.

Great Value
This is a very large can of tuna! We laughed when it arrived, it was so big! We ended up opening the can, divvying it up into four vacuum packets (with our Food Saver) and putting three of them into our deep freeze. It is very high quality tuna at a very reasonable cost due to bulk purchasing. Have since used one of the frozen packets and it retained the flavor and freshness.

Great Tuna
Ok.....I cannot compare this large can to the smaller cans from the same company because I have never bought tuna from this company. I have always bought whatever store tuna was on sale. When we started trying to be a little more conscience about the products we were buying and the company producing those products, I stopped buying tuna. I had seen this tuna before, but didn't want to spend 3-4 bucks on a small can. I found this large can and decided to try it. We are a family of 4, but have kids in sports who love to eat, so I don't think we will have any problem finishing this. I will take a couple of portions and freeze them to be used later. Much more economical than the little cans and way better quality than st*rk*st.
