Using for diabetic cat
This is such an amazing, inventive litter box. I recently took in a stray who turned out to be diabetic, drinking and peeing incredible amounts. After desperately searching the internet for help, I found reference to this box. I'm actually using dried pinto beans as the litter (something I also found recommended in my research) because the included special litter for this box seems like it would be a little rougher on cat paws. But the box works very well. The litter is elevated and ventilated, the pee drains neatly into the bottom chamber which is easily removed to empty and rinse clean. The bottom chamber is the only part I've found it necessary to clean frequently. I "stir" the litter after she uses it. That dries quickly, and the drain pan underneath dries quickly. Any other cat might require a little more frequent cleaning...my cat's urine is so dilute, it barely smells at all.

Absolutely love it. Keeping up with the cat box was always a losing a battle and would take 15 gross-filled minutes every other day, trying to separate the good from the bad.. I've had this for almost a year and with this it takes 3 minutes (literally) a day. The cat box stays cleaner and fresher, I don't feel gross after cleaning it, and it makes FAR LESS WASTE.The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I did not like the seeds - they made a mess everywhere. I switched to the breeze pellets and that works out perfect for me. No mess, no tracking, odor is under control... and minimal waste. The breeze pellets cost a little bit... but if you figure how much that constantly wasted cat litter costs it's still cheaper this way.

This was the solution I was looking for!
Iāve never left a review for anything, but this product deserves one! I adopted an adult cat a couple of months ago and I wasnāt really sure what kind of litter box or litter to use. After a night of what felt like endless internet searching, I found this and Iām so glad I did! I wanted to use some kind of natural litter because the clumping litter was heavy, expensive, and wasted so much every time it was used. Now, I also think that litter and the size of the litter box I originally had were the reasons Poo was being tracked everywhere because she was stepping in it and getting it on her legs, and I havenāt had that problem since switching because the box is a great size and she likes the seeds. Iāve been using this smart cat box for a while now with the safflower seeds and I havenāt had any issues. Theyāre very inexpensive (and you also donāt have to buy pee pads for this box! Itās less wasteful, less expensive, less gross, and good for health checks!), and I donāt have any worries about her eating them or trying to play with them like Iāve seen in reviews for the pellets. If you donāt like the seeds though the pellets can be used with this box. I have the box in a cabinet that contains a lot of the stray seeds so if you donāt have something like that you may want to get the extended walls for this box. I definitely prefer a few stray safflower seeds to other litter being tracked all over my place. The only thing that could be considered a negative is that the seeds donāt really contain smells, but again I have the box in a cabinet and I donāt really think itās that bad. I just spray the seeds every day with water that has a little bleach in it. I also havenāt had any problems with this box getting too dirty. I just rinse the little drawer at the bottom out when I empty it every other day. Then it just needs to be wiped down every once in a while. Transitioning your cat may be a bit of a process, but honestly I just switched mine out one day and it was totally fine with her. If youāve been struggling to find a good litter system this smart box is completely worth trying out!

The concept is awesome, but falls way short
I have a multi cat household and purchased this box hoping it would be a supplement and eventually replace my traditional litter boxes. I liked it at first. Seemed great. It was easy to empty the urine and scoop to clean. I didn't seem to mind the seeds and I would sweep every morning. However, I began finding seeds everywhere, which annoys me. After the first few deep cleaning of the box the underneath tray began to get mold/mildew?? That gets into the urine tray. I am not sure if it is from the seeds, or something else. Regardless this is not acceptable to me. The concept is awesome, but it needs some reengineering.

Now I'm spoiled.
I've had the box a little over 3 weeks. There was no problem getting my kidney failure cat to use it. (She drinks a lot and pees a LOT.) In fact, I took it out of the box, set it on the bed to look at it, poured in the seeds, and she hopped in and used it before I even set it on the floor. She continues to use it consistently, and I think she enjoys the fact that there's never any clumps of pee-filled litter in there. I left the old box out for a few days as a transition period, and I don't think she ever looked at it again. After about 9 days, the litter seemed smelly, and I was a little worried. I don't want to use bleach, even diluted, because her kidneys are already in failure and I don't want her to be further compromised by ingesting chemicals while washing herself. So, I took the top tray to the shower and gave it a good flushing with plain water. It took a day or two to fully dry out, but I just stirred it up a couple times a day to help it along. Since then, no smell. And nothing sprouted even when it was damp. : )I'm enjoying the fact that I don't have litter everywhere. I was using Swheat Scoop, which I like for ecological reasons, but man, it tracked everywhere - even into my bed. Yuck! Yes, some seeds end up on the floor, but they don't leave the bathroom where the litter box is. I have a dust pan and small broom in the bathroom, and every couple days I sweep them up and dump them back in the box. The main problem is that the cat really flings the litter when covering up a poop. In hindsight, I should have gotten the sides to go with the box... but I was feeling cheap that day. This system might be perfect if it came in a "top entry" design.Edit on 8/1/15. I'm now spoiled by this litter box and have decided to buy another for the two cats who are not sick. I really now hate digging around in kitty litter to get out the clumps and the poops... and the smell while doing that.... Ack!
