Lockbox for Guns and Valuables

This is The Real Deal. Very sturdy construction, dense foam padding, strong, secure cable. I previously bought an inexpensive copy from Harbor Freight - there's no comparison. Cheaply made lock, and if you lose the keys, you're sunk. Replacements not available! The keys to this Hornady box are numbered, so in case of loss, the company will replace them at no cost. That's a big deal to me.

Very nice security box for my truck. This item replaces a cheaper made security box I had been using that broke and I really like this one very much. Metal is much thicker than my previous box, internal locking mechanism functions nicely and is extremely secure, when closed the top and bottom of the box fit very tightly and solidly and the cable is nice and thick and long enough to secure around whatever metal framing inside your vehicle that you intend to use an an anchor point. This is really a very nice vehicle security box and I'm very happy with it. When I first got the box the key "stuck" a little and didn't insert and remove as smoothly as I would've liked but after using the box for a very short period of time the key has "worn in" and now inserts and turns very smoothly. If you're looking for a solid vehicle security box this one is worth consideration.

So far, it's exactly as you would expect it to be. It's a thick gauge metal box that locks and it even has egg foam padding the inside! Out of the box it appears to be able to do exactly what I intend it to do. My intended use is a means of securing a firearm in my vehicle when i don't necessarily want to physically carry. There was a small scratch in the paint right out of the box (pictured). For me personally I couldn't care less, but I know some of y'all love showing off how pretty your purchased items are so take that into account when considering purchasing a firearm lock box that's under $40. The box itself looks and feels sturdy enough. the hinge seems solid and there is no spring/assist to it which is what I prefer. There is a gap in the seam which could potentially be used to assist in prying the box open but it will most likely require the time and effort needed to physically bend out the sides of the box and or bend the locking bar to be able to acquire the goods inside. The keyed lock feels flimsy but so for its worked every time I've desired to make entry into the box. I like that the security cable can be fashioned to either side of the box and it further assists in keeping honest people honest. The room inside the box is plentiful. As seen it can fit a full size weapon with an attached light (yes it's a cheap light, sue me) and a multitude magazines. It even fits my issued weapon, off duty holster, "child" lock and a spare magazine with no issues. Overall I'm very pleased. Will update if necessary.

Box and lanyard feel sturdy. Lanyard is a good length. I like the eggshell inner cushion vs. the flat cushions other lockboxes have--feels like it's holds the object your storing in place. Will hold a glock G45 9mm--tight fit, but it fits. Only complaint is the barrel keys. They're horrible. You can easily orient a flat key--a barrel key takes some aim and will insert correctly (0 degrees when locked) and incorrectly (90 degrees when locked) just as easily. To that point, easily is not that easy. In addition to requiring some aim, they take a little wiggling for them to get seated. This is a pain in the dark which is exclusively where/when I'm using this box. I resorted to a putting a piece of tape on the top of the key to help me orient it.

This is a well made lock-box. The locking mechanism is much better than the single pivoting metal tab so many have. Just lifting the empty box you can tell it's very sturdy. I'm able to carry a full sized S&W M&P 2.0 and two magazines and none of these pieces are touching each other.

Very sturdy material, not just flimsy sheet metal. The locking cable works perfect for wrapping around car seat to keep secure. Fits a fullsize pistol and mag with foam keeping it from sliding around. Highly recommend

***Update 10/14/2020*** I contacted Hornady directly to explain what happened and ask how to go about purchasing a cable to replace the one that was damaged during the attempted theft. They responded within 24 hours to let me know that a replacement cable has been shipped to me. Folks, *that's* customer service that we don't see every day. Due to this experience with the box and Hornady's customer service team, I've added the fifth star to this review. ***Update 10/10/2020*** My vehicle was broken into this week. Although the lock box was under the driver seat and completely unseen due to other items on the back seat floor, the thieves found the box. Try as they might, they could not get into the box and the contents remained safe and secure. They also could not get the box separated from the heavy-duty cable and cable connector/receiver. The cable sustained some damage to the exterior materials, but the steel cable didn't break. This lock box is absolutely the one you want. If I was using one of the lighter weight boxes or one with a flimsy cable, I would have lost the box - and it's contents. --Original April 2020 review-- I've been using this lock box for several months and am overall very happy with it. The construction is solid - this isn't some lightweight metal like a cheap concession stand cash box or old time lunchbox. I was surprised by the weight of the box, it's seriously heavy. The cable that comes with it is equally as strong and heavy-duty. I wrapped the cable around one leg of my car seat and the box slides under the seat, unseen most of the time. The only reason I didn't give it four stars is that sometimes I have trouble locking the box back up and have to open it, make sure nothing is blocking it, and try again. That makes it harder to be discrete in locking it up in a busy parking lot.

Quality Steel Security Lockbox that is perfect fit to safely store a 1911 size pistol or valuables in a vehicle or home. Well worth the price...
