Great!
I installed and bought my Viper Alarm through Amazon 3 years ago. The alarm came with this remote and a lower grade remote the 7141v remote which they don't make anymore.I've ordered this one as my 488V casing is lose even though it's mainly been used inside the home, mainly as a alarm next to my bed/head/ears.This remote is great for my needs. I doubt the distance or range is as far as advertised but it is perfect for my application. My Viper Alarm hasn't given me any problems since I installed it. I know if I'm at the store or nearby, when my alarm goes off, this remote raises Hell and that's what I like about it.So buying this one is a backup to the one I have now as silicone glued my old remote together as new.If I have problems with this new one, I'll let you know.

Perfect Replacement
This was an exact replacement for the remote that came with my Viper 771vx remote start alarm. The original lasted about 4 1/2 years and was held together with a rubber band for the last two. The case for the unit is not very well made and will come apart over time. There are some instructions on the package for syncing the remote with the alarm. The instructions were a little confusing because it looks like you're suppose to program a different channel if you have the remote start so it didn't work after the first try. I used the instructions to program it to Channel 1 and it worked. Other than that, it took a total of < 5 minutes to get it set up.

Being referred to a store that sells them - such as Best Buy is what they do and the folks there ...
This is not about Amazon - it's about Python/Viper. There is no way to contact these people when their equipment malfunctions or in this case when it becomes necessary to purchase a new remote and program it to their equipment. Being referred to a store that sells them - such as Best Buy is what they do and the folks there can't begin to address anything that was on their shelves for a period of time. If it can't be programmed - in my book it's pretty much junk.DO NOT BUY AN ALARM SYSTEM for your vehicle from a company that can't be contacted. I am now removing the entire system from my vehicle - expensive lesson learned.

Instructons confusing, not completely compatible, needed help programming
Bought 2 remotes to replace 488p remote that came with 571xp system. The 488p is no longer available and replaced with the 488v. P is for python brand and v for viper; all DEI products. The auto learn feature didn't work completely. The unlock button failed to program. Took it by local DEI installer and they reprogrammed the 571xp system to make it compatible with the 488v. Had something to do with a single buttonvers a two button. Cost me $10 per remote. Worth it to have working remotes. Would not recommend unless there is a DEI installer availible and willing to program if needed. The autolean feature now works with the 488v remote.

Good product-get the matte black finish
Works well. This is the second remote I've bought for this model alarm, 771XV Viper. This first remote was from a different vendor and had a glossy finish. It did not last long. This item is a matte black finish and seems more durable. Not sure why there is a difference, but my original remotes were matte black. Remote came in a sealed bubble pack and definitely was new as bubble pack had to be cut open with the jaws of life.Seller shipped item in a timely manner and item was accurately described.

So, let me guess, you dropped it, right?
These things are crap on a split ring. I have replaced my 488V remote 5 times in 7 years. Don't EVER drop it. Once these things hit the ground they're pretty much toast. Of course, if you're here looking to buy one it's probably because you've already discovered this to be the case. I have a bag of spare parts... and a bottle of super glue. My current remote is on its last legs now... drains it's battery in 3-4 weeks, power cycles in the dead of night and starts playing it's little tune... about ready to just ditch the viper alarm all together.2 Stars because it DOES work when it's new, it's just fragile and expensive.

3rd replacement in 4 years
This is my third replacement I started with a python 488p , replaced it with the clifford version about a year ago (of course I can't remember how to program it) these don't hold up well to kids dropping your keys! it busts open and you spend the next 20 mins on the ground trying to find the plastic pieces that cover the lights! if i remember correctly it is Door open turn key to on, press the vale <is that how you spell that? and then press and hold the button. I tried this and my car went into power saver mode and now wont start!
