'Christmas at The Palace' Large Traditional Advent Calendar

Alison Gardiner Advent calendars are from England, so the designs are of English scenes, including this one of the Palace. The people and animals are going about their business as Santa Claus and his reindeer soar in the night sky. The pictures behind the windows are appropriate to the Christmas holidays, mostly toys. The biggest drawback is that it is not freestanding: I am fortunate to have a curio cabinet that fits against the wall, and I use the calendar as a background for Hummel figurines. The calendar leans against the wall and is in no danger of tipping over.

Ms. Gardiner is an accomplished artist. Her drawings are delightful and priced much > reasonably than others. Her style is refreshing and modern. I'm delighted with the final product and even ordered an Exact-O® knife as an Add-On after one reviewer noted the doors were sometimes difficult to open; that issue is not a deal breaker for me.

I was looking for a non-chocolate advent calendar, because those are the ones I grew up on. But I also did want one that was overtly religious. This fit the bill. The artwork was fun and delightful.

Lots of different pictures, but the open doors don't add to the scene. For example, might be a goose in the middle of an evergreen, rather than a new present under the tree. Sturdy cardboard, doors well cut.

This advent calendar will make a great addition to my English collection, though the palace doesn't look like Buckingham Palace because you don't see Royal Guards. I think my favorite Advent calendar in the Alison Gardiner series is Shakespeare's Birthplace in Stratford-upon Avon.

Great artwork, however, daily windows are really, really small and hard to find. The Palace windows are the daily advent windows. Disappointed in size

Lovely British advent calendar... would definitely buy again!

This is the third Alison Gardiner Advent calendar I have purchased and my grandson, now seven, loves it. Bold and colorful, this year it is on stiffer board which is a plus.

I buy one of Alison's advent calendars every year, beautiful designs with a traditional Christmas theme.
