No Gears, Nothing To Break
I bought this item because it was not steel tape and did not have gears that would wear out. I am not having any trouble winding the tape back without gears, but I don't use it a lot. The tape works for me in a wet outdoors environment.

Great measuring tool!
Lufkin has been one of the best measuring tools for years and appears to still be! Great quality tape!

Measures in both feet and metres
I wish the hook could open both ways as it is currently set for feet and inches, but we use the metric system of measurements. It otherwise is a handy piece of equipment.
