Great 1/4" shank extension
These are great bit extensions. They hold the bit tightly so it won't fall out while you're deep into drilling something, unlike a standard magnetic holder. The release mechanism is designed such that it won't release while you're pulling the bit out of whatever you're drilling into. I use this primarily for drilling hole with unibits in tight spots, and I have a 1/4" shank hole saw arbor that I use with these. At first I bought a cheap one at Harbor Freight, but when you buy them on Amazon, these IRWIN ones are about the same price, and noticeably higher quality. I use them rough and they do a good job for me. Highly recommend. The overall outside diameter of these is a little under 5/8". You need a 5/8" hole to fit this all the way through.

Average desugn with beautiful chrome finish to resist rust.
Decent 3/8 x 12in extension. Nice chrome finish. I'm not sure of the durability difference for drilling having blacknoxide vs chrome except the chrome is least likely to rust and the chrome looks great. The locking mechanism seems fine but notnas good as Milwaukee's and I worry the hole saws may release and fall into a wall. The Mimwaukee extensions appear more heavy duty but they no longer sell the 3/8 x 12in long extension. The options are purchasing two 3/8 x 6in Milwaukee, a Frued 3/8 x 12in, or Chinese brands.

Excellent tool, good value.
Does exactly what it’s supposed to. Well built. Substantial. It weighs a bit, but doesn’t feel like a drop would damage it.

Works with Spade Bit Drills
I purchased four of these to use as incremental extensions for a 1/4" hex shank spade drill bit so I could drill down from inside an outlet-sized hole in drywall vs drilling up from the basement. Not only did this function as desired, despite that not being its primary function, they also survived the drill bit hitting a couple nails, which bent the bit shank, but left this bit holder in perfect working order. I started out trying to use a Dewalt Magnetic Bit Holder, which stripped out almost immediately, so this is DEFINITELY a much more robust product. This is also double the diameter of the Dewalt bit holder, at least, so if you need very low torque and a very narrow diameter, use that, instead. Use this for higher torque applications or where you need a mechanical anchor vs a magnetic one.

Works great!
Nice, simple design. Put the bit in and it is locked. Pull down on the outside spring to release. Just what I was looking for.

Spins True and Locks Bits Too!
This one is "true" spinning, does NOT wobble like some of the other ones. The shaft in the middle is also round as opposed to a hex shape all the way as compared to some of the other ones. This is convenient for slightly holding it while guiding the tip into place and not having it catch on your fingers when starting the turning process. Also, the bits lock solidly in place at the end of the shaft with the quick disconnect associated with it. I not only bought the 12 inch model but also bought the two other shorter sizes because of the good design aspect of the whole units.
