Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Ships of the Inner Sea

A nice collection of ships
Fairly good reference for pre-built ships to use in a sea-based campaign. Makes it a fairly straightforward task to modify the ships for your own needs. This, coupled with the Skull & Shackles Player's Guide, set up the savvy player or DM for sea-based gameplay.

This book is pretty, and it offers some fairly cool 'NPC' ships
This book is pretty, and it offers some fairly cool 'NPC' ships, but I find this book to be comparable in most cases to the NPC Codex. That is to say, you don't really need this book unless you want something to stand on it's side, put your finger randomly on a page, let the book fall open, and use whatever page randomly came up. If you like that kind of thing, then yeah, sure this is great.Personally I was hoping that this book might expand the playing field of ships in general and perhaps bring some more variants and refinements to the often clunky naval combat system that Pathfinder presents. All in all, I don't regret the purchase, but I can't justify giving it as many stars as other products.

There is a lot to set the imagination to in this book. If you understand that most trade is by water, this book is extremely good. I especially like the GP values given for a haul, if a group were to take a ship, and it's cargo and deciding the value.

Love this! Made for a really great adventure :)
For those GM's who run a game on the sea and are in need of a few great vessel layout ideas or great NPC captain ideas, this is a fun addition to any gaming room shelf :)

Great Artwork, and Background.However...........
Once again the arwork and background are what you would expect from Pazio. Where i found this product lacking is in the fact they gave you write ups on "Legendary" ships from different parts of the realms. Rather then go into detail on the types of ships they have alredy mentioned in the players handbook. There are no stats for building a custom ship or the real differences on why you would want to build or buy one ship over another. The only floor plans are for the ones that you can read about. This book does include however the water routes used in the realms. Now if they could do the same for the land that would be wonderful.

7 prebuilt ships/crew Not helpful for players ships
I thought this would be a good addition to our skulls and shackles and help flesh out the ship, maybe detailing types and prices of ships and their equipment. Instead it details 7 ships and their crew. There are two pages of nautical terms and a map of trade routes (with no names of city's/countries). The detail on 7 ships/crew may make this somewhat useful for our DM but altogether I feel my money was wasted.

Useful suppliment, not standalone
First and most important; this book does NOT contain the rules for ship-to-ship combat. If you're looking at this book because you want some high adventure on the seas of Golarion, you'll need to pick up the Skulls and Shackles adventure path first. What this book is instead is essentially a "bestiary of ships" - it contains a series of entries on 7 new ships, giving you stats for the ships themselves as well as their crew, as well as some lore and potential plothooks to let you tempt your players into encountering them. This is very much a book for DMs and players will find little of use here, other than inspiration. For DMs though its a really useful and interesting tool, and I do recommend it!... Just make sure to download the Skulls and Shackle's Player Guide from Paizo.com first, since you'll need the ship combat rules there to be able to actually use it. The base rules are available as a free PDF from the publishers if you want to make up your own plot, but the paid Skulls and Shackles adventure path has more detailed information as well as more ships and characters.

Was expecting a "build your own ship" approach but it's more "here are some cool ships from the Inner Sea". Good reference if you want ships in your games.
