Major design flaw
These boots are incredibly comfortable and have great traction, but they have a major design flaw. The sole is made up of two different kinds of rubber bonded together; hard rubber over soft rubber. The problem is that the hard rubber part extends over the soft rubber at one point on the instep. When you stand in the boots, the soft rubber compressed and the hard rubber bites into the shoe material. After only about 4 months of wearing these boots every day, they develop a noticeable mark where the hard rubber contacts the shoe material. After about 6 months, a it starts to tear. The boots are then no longer waterproof and look much older than they really are. The hard rubber also starts pulling away from the rest of the sole material at the heel after about 12 months of wear. The attached pictures are after wearing the boots almost every day for about 15 months. I have another set of Merrells in the Mojave design that are almost 3 years old and look better than these Moabs. If you are planning to wear these boots frequently, you might want to look for another design. The Pulsate and Mojave designs don't have this problem. Unfortunately, this is the only set of Merrell boots that comes in a Gore-Tex model.

Show Your Dogs Some Love!
Great all-season, all-purpose boots. About three years ago I developed a nasty case of tendonitis in my left foot. Basic diagnosis was wearing stylish shoes, with no support. I used to buy cheap-a** department store sale shoes and boots. Once I switched to Merrells, I've never had a recurrence of any type of foot issues. I've worn these Moab Gore-Tex Mid Wides (my feet are a 9 EE and a 9 Wide Merrel Moab Mid fits just right) ) nearly every day for 2.5 years before the sole started to separate. I abandoned those in Hawaii, thinking they had served their purpose. When I got home, I contacted Merrell to clear up some questions I had regarding the exact model I had left behind, and was surprised to learn that I should have brought them home and sent them back to Merrell for evaluation and possible credit or even replacement. Doh! No worries though, they served me well, and I intended on buying a new pair.I work as an IT tech in a manufacturing environment in the upper midwest. During the hot summers my feet never got sweaty. In the winter, they never got cold. Rain or snow, my feet stayed dry. I've trekked over volcanic rock formations, muddy trails and hard pavement and the boots held up, with very little tread wear. There was some fraying at the collar, but that's pretty much to be expected, as we aren't talking Kevlar. As for the Gore-Tex element, that's what makes these bad boys the best. Pay a little extra, and you get a lot for your money.I just received my second pair from Amazon, and the moment I put them on, I smiled and whispered "Oh...yeah...that's what I'm talkin' about"

Best shoes...ever.
My foot is just a tiny bit too wide for these when I first get them, however once I've broken them in I can and do wear these boots all day, every day for years before they start to fall apart. I started with my first pair back in 2006 and I am on my third pair. Not bad for a shoe that is worn every single day, all day. Comfortable, waterproof (for a while, then once they start wearing out, obviously this is one of the things that goes away). They are comfortable in the summer and in the winter. Just a fantastic all-around comfortable and useful "sport utility" shoe!

Excellent office or hiking
This will be my 2nd pair, after ?3+? years. The first pair were pre-pup, she over 2 and still wants morning and evening walks and weekend's are for chasing those big dogs with the stubby white tails (deer) and running all the sent trails. These are quick to put on and quick to lace. The laces provided are top quality, something I have found lacking in most of my other boots.I also wear these in the cube-critter office environment. Their stylish enough to pass as casual, they are light, breath well, and on those rainy days, I am not suffering through the day with wet socks :)I got the first pair because after alternating between 3 pairs of cross trainers that were constantly soaked and none of them lasting past the 8 month mark. Morning walks due to the dew, is like walking through puddles. Hard on any shoe and wet socks shorten the walks. The Merrells kept my socks/feet nice and dry, well till about 3 weeks ago.The soles finally began to separate, first on the right one and now the left - not a major blow out, just enough to have wet feet after 15 minutes. So, they will be retired from day-to-day. They also has a few nicks and scrapes from the non-work romping and are more business scruffy than some would like.I do intend to swap out the in-sole with my favorite Superfeet Green Premium Insoles . I do this for all my boots / half-boots, the difference is well worth the extra cost, IMO...

Buy 2 pair
I have several pair of Merrell boots and shoes and all I can say is buy them, buy them, buy them. When I go hiking, rock climbing, I am 100% confident that no matter what I am doing, I am not going to slip, or fall flat on my face. My last hike in Snow Canyon St George, every time I passed someone I said, " It's all about the shoes. "Enclose pictures are the shoe, not the boot. Merrell Men's Moab Mid Gore-Tex Hiking Shoe. Same Merrell quality. I wear them both when I want confidence. Merrell Men's Moab Gore-Tex Hiking Shoe, Dark Chocolate,11 M US

Good strong boot.
A really good boot, sturdy and as expected. I would go a size larger because they are a bit tight. It's a man's boot and I am a woman. The width is fine. Gonna take some breaking in.Update: wanted to add to this review. I've had these boots over two years now and wear them loads. They still look amazing. It took me a few months to properly break them in. Now they certainly are the most comfortable boot I've ever owned. I can wear them all day hiking and no blisters.Well worth the investment.

Fabulous boot - let's hope for life!
Bought this as a Christmas gift for my boyfriend and he loves them. I'd say the photos don't do this show justice, as they look even more impressive and study in real life. I've ordered 2-3 different styles and this one works the best for just rather wide feet. He's worn them out a couple of times and really likes them, no blisters or anything upon first few wears which is amazing!Haven't had a chance to test out the Gore-tex waterproof element yet or the Vibram, so will update review if it fails, but fingers crossed.

Comfortable and Hardy
I've bought Merrell Walking Shoes as everyday trainers for years, because of their quality and comfort. This pair are waterproof, which is an added bonus. One of the lace eyelets snapped off quite soon after purchase but are still usable. This is the first pair which have ever broken.

A+++++
The boots came yesterday and today I did an 8 mile walk in them. No blisters no rubbing and no sore feet like wearing a pair of slippers. After reading other reviews I did buy half size bigger prefect fit.Update:I have just done the Yorkshire 3 peaks in these boots 13/05/2018. That's 24miles 5250ft ascent in 11 hours 30mins. No blisters no sore feet 100% waterproof. Need I say more.

POOR QUALITY
These boots aren't necessarily made for serious walking, but as a good general purpose "mid" approach boot they're fine. If they last as long as the 6 years my previous pair did then I'll be happy. AND JUST AFTER A YEAR OF LIGHT USE, A LACE LOOP HAS BROKEN! CLEARLY, THERE HAS BEEN A SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION IN QUALITY! FAR FROM IMPRESSED.

5 would be perfect! they were right in the past with lowa's ...
spot on! I'm generally a size 10 but lots of people I know that have the moabs said that a size 9.5 would be perfect! they were right in the past with lowa's and my salomon and they were right again with these.boots themselves are as you'd expect and arrived well packaged and ahead of prediction so a very happy bunny all around.been wearing back and forth to work to work them in a little before doing anything serious in them and no pinches, rubs or sores.

Very comfortable boots but they didn't last very long
These are very comfortable boots but they didn't last very long before starting to let in water. I bought them for summer use on easy terrain but, after around 40 walks of five miles or so and with hardly any signs of wear on the soles, the upper part of the toe section started to separate from the sole on each boot with consequent water ingress.

Waterproof Yes - But not Boots as Pictured
Great pair of Waterproof Shoes, I just walked for 25 Minutes through a wet field With My Dog, and I get Home and My Socks and Feet are Bone Dry! - though I received the (Shoe Version) and not the Boots as in the Picture, and also they are Black and Grey?

I like Them.
Had these about 4 Months, I have had no problems, comfortable for me so I'm happy, I had to get these half a size bigger but if your going to wear thick socks then I'm guessing a full size bigger would be better.

Not without fault
Whilst being comfortable they are not without their faults. After 12 months they ceased to be waterproof, even before that damp feet were common on heavy rain walks. The material has become shabby despite good care and the toe protector has separated from the main body of the boot on both boots. Would I buy them again, No and I would not recommend them.

So good, I'm on my 5th pair!
These are all I ever use for work. This is probably my 5th pair over the many years of wearing them though.Fit well and I can last in them for hours on end! The Gore-tex versions definitely are worth the upgrade.

Merrell Moab Mid Gore-Tex
I am a size 8.5 shoe size but needed a 9.5 which allows me to wear reasonably thick walking socks. Wore them straight from the box with no issues. Plenty of support and comfortable to walk in. So far they are waterproof.

Not waterproof for long.
Fantastically comfortable but stopped being waterproof after equivalent of about 1 weeks wear, spread over about 6 weeks.Have had to re-proof already, which, given that they were,to me,VERY expensive, isn't great.

So far so good
I bought these for my husband who is usually 11 in formal shoes and 12 in trainers. I bought a 12 as other reviews seemed to advise and they fit very well. He hasn't done much walking in them yet but finds them comfortable and sturdy for what he's done so far.
