Amazing Regency Fashion Resource - Lots of patterns and images!
Most costuming books feature a wide range of time from mid 1700s to mid 1800s. And that is ok, but this book FOCUSES on the singular period that is commonly refereed to as Empire, Regency, Federal, Directoire, Georgian among others. If you are an experienced stitcher and are familiar with how to blow up and size a pattern using a grid, this is a phenomenal book. Well, it is a phenomenal book even if you aren't.There are sparse construction instructions, if any, but there are intense details about each garment. And all I can say is wow that there are so many patterns! The average regency sewing pattern costs 15 bucks, and you get 20 ... you do the math! The garment examples range from chemises to stays, gowns and redingotes. Its a whole wardrobe. If you already own Waugh and Arnold, this is a very fresh book for the period stitcher who is hungry for more Regency research. Good stuff. Tons of color pics.So buy this book for the patterns and then use the Regency Ladies Fashion Plate book to get trimming, color and detail ideas, and then use the period fabric examples books to get a good idea of period cloth to use. There ya go, regency just got easy. :)

A fantastic resource!
Full disclosure: I attended the same graduate program as the author, and I know her quite well. However, the same educational background also qualifies me to review the book from a fashion historian's perspective. And it. Is. Awesome. With complete, detailed patterns for every garment type you will ever need to re-create a Regency wardrobe (shifts, 2 styles of stays, day dresses, evening dresses, outerwear and more), this book fills in gaps in the previous publications of this type (Waugh and Arnold) in so many ways. Previous books might give you one or two gowns of this type, maybe a set of stays, but never the in-depth information offered here on construction - this book was clearly written with re-creation in mind. As a previous reviewer noted, the information focuses on the specific garments and not general sewing. These are not commercial patterns where pages can be devoted to every step of construction and fitting for every garment. You also get 20 patterns. 20. For about the price of dinner at Chili's. So no, it doesn't hold your hand. Instead, the author packs this book with far more detailed information than Arnold or Waugh and creates something that both improves upon and supplements its predecessors. I can't wait for the next volume!

Is it worth it? Sewing Edition
Introduction: A nice concise overview of the contents of the books and why it was made.A history of Regency Dress: This presented a nice overview as well of the type of clothing that women wore as well as a when the item would be worn. As well a brief history about the changing attire over the three decades is included.Chemise 1800-1820Chemise 1820-1840Short stays 1795-1805Corset 1805-1815Morning Jacket1800-1815Spencer 1797-1810Spencer 1810-1813Morning Dress 1795-1803Morning or Evening 1803-1806Morning Dress c.1800Morning Dress 1800-1805Morning or Evening Dress 1803-1805Evening Dress 1804-1810Evening Dress1805-1808Morning Dress1809-1818Quaker Gown 1810-1820Morning Dress 1813-1816Evening Dress 1812-1817Evening Dress 1819-1821Evening Dress 1812-1820Formal Dress 1818-1822Bodice of an evening dress 1819-1823Ball Dress 1820-1825Morning Dress 1823-1826Morning Dress 1826-1827Ball Dress 1824-1827AcknowledgementsFurther ReadingUseful Addresses: I really like the adding of sources for materials to recreate the garments.IndexEvery garment is present with a drawing of the garment and a photo of a detail on the garment. I would have preferred several pictures of the seams of the garment as well. There are no full size photos of the garments in the book, which is kind of odd, seeing as most of these were taken from a museum. While the 1 photo is okay they are not exactly useful. The written construction section is just okay, these are not step by step directions but more of an overview on how the garment was put together. Some sewing pictures or photos would have been nice as well. A section for stitching should have been given, for example: What exactly is an underhand hem stitch ?. For these reasons this book is not for someone new to sewing, as I’m sure extra research on sewing and garment construction would be needed. For those reasons I was also disappointed in the book, the missing links would have made this a fabulous research and construction book to have. The amount of patterns in this book, is far surpasses the purchasing price, these patterns alone would cost. The historical information given was top-notch and easy to digest. For someone who already sews and is accustomed to sizing patterns this book is a nice book to have in your library for historical clothing. Is this book worth it? for Moi, Yes. I love the historical information and the number of patterns given are numerous. This book cost me $10.00 for what it offers versus the price it would be disingenuous to give this book less than 4 to 4.5 stars. Maybe one day we could get a revised edition with more construction photos, or illustrations. As well, photos of the full garments and more historical photos in general of the garments presented.Alas, I would avoid getting the kindle version of this book, as it's next to impossible to find a way to print the patterns. Unless of course you plan on doing by hand scaling.

Très bien
The media could not be loaded. Il fait un peu de bruit seulement si on laisse tous les voyants allumés. La nuit on éteint tout. Télécommande, smartphone, tactile au choix. Top👍

Lovely book
The media could not be loaded. It’s a lovely book. Good quality glossy pages with a decent paperback cover. 26 patterns each with long descriptions, fashion plates, illustrations and 1 close up photo of the actual garment. Patterns are on a grid.I’ve been thinking of buying this book for a while but I have not seen much information on it so have held back. Very happy I have finally purchased it.

Lovely book
This is a lovely book for any Regency enthusiast. Lots of usable patterns. I recommend this for advanced sewists, unless you have access to a large scale scanner/printer.
