Good, solid unit for my outdated radio, without any annoying quirks
I needed to replace an outdated radio/cd in my 2004 Suburban. I used another website to narrow down what would and wouldn't fit, and using a scoshe bracket, installed this in about an hour. Very straightforward and easy install, albeit the hardest part was getting all the wires to fit behind the radio in the dash. I did it in the middle of an artic Michigan winter, so I did the wiring portion of the connections inside. You have to connect several wires together on the wiring harness, so if you're not comfortable doing that, you'll need an installer. I'm planning on fine tuning the fit into the dash this spring. The 3 main criteria for a new radio for me were: 1) the brightness of the display at night. I commute from work after dark in the winter months, and cannot stand bright lights coming from the dash. A previous model year pioneer avh-2600 was way too bright, but this new model has options to change the display to a dark, subdued level. I'm happy with its brightness, and as I said before, I'm picky about this. 2) streaming music from a USB drive. I wanted to dump my previous source of music: SiriusXM. Nothing against it, just I found more often than not it wasn't playing a song I liked, plus it cost $15 or so per month. I absolutely love the USB function of this radio. I loaded 300 or so of my favorite classic rock on a micro USB drive, and it plays them flawlessly. I set it on random, and it remembers where it left off. Exactly what I was looking for. This spring I will route the long USB cord that hooks to the radio in the back to the cigarette lighter hole, using an adapter found on Amazon. I don't smoke so this is wasted space (until now) 3) connecting via Bluetooth to my phone. I wanted to take calls without fishing my phone out of my pocket and holding it to my ear while driving. So far this radio pairs perfectly with my iPhone 5s, mutes the music, then puts the call through the speakers with amazing clarity. The radio display has all the buttons come on automatically when a call comes in, allowing easy manipulation of the call. Again, exactly what I was looking for A previous reviewer complained of the " incredibly loud beep" when you adjust the volume or use the function buttons, saying its loud and shrill. I have to say honestly I have no idea what he's talking about. When someone says incredibly loud and shrill, that conjures up comparisons to some kind of alarm going off, and my radio simply does not do that. In fact, when I'm listening to music at normal volumes, and say, adjust the volume up or down, I cannot hear the beep. Kinda like hitting a button on your microwave, only about half as loud. Certainly not even close to being an issue with me. I've only preliminarily tried the HD radio and the Pandora function to assure they're working properly, which they do. But my main source of music is the USB. In summation, this radio completely fits the bill for what I wanted it to do, without any annoying quirks. I will update with some pics of the completed install shortly. Good luck with your project !

Solid radio, small quirks. NOTE: BUYING FROM AMAZON VOIDS WARRANTY
[Edit: After two units died within six months, lowering my score.. again] A strong "AVOID THIS RADIO" review. Too many issues, very bad design, high level of failure. After reviewing many models of radio, I ended up on the AVH X3700. It's a solid unit that allowed three stored BlueTooth profiles, dual cameras, and other necessary features. Many others have covered the basics in depth, let's talk about the oddities. And, also the fact that purchasing this item from Amazon will void it's warranty (see end). Within 30 seconds of installing the head unit, I hated it and wanted to return it. Every button press emitted a horrendous BEEP. This same issue was seen here by others. I went to a local audio install shop to ask and they noted what others had: it's an incompatibility with factory-amplified stereos. My Hyundai Santa Fe has the Monsoon upgraded system with a factory amplifier. The signal leaving the head unit was amplified twice before the speakers. Once I had them fix the issue (disconnect speaker wires from harness and wire them in using RCA adapters to pre-amp outputs) it was nice and quiet. The Display button is useless and a user interface nightmare. There's never a need to ever push it. But, what I would LOVE, is a Mute or Play/Pause button where Display is. Instead, you have to reach to bottom left of screen to pause, but only if you had not previously lowered the volume. If you lowered, you'd have to wait a few seconds for the volume bar to time out and then be able to pause. Adding the optional CD-SR100 remote control makes working the stereo much easier. However, it also creates a whole new set of issues. There are buttons on the remote that put the stereo into undocumented modes that are confusing. Pressing down while in USB can force it into subdirectories, but then you may end up looping a subdirectory endlessly. There is no smart shuffle. If you filter to a genre, or artist, or album, and press shuffle, it will not keep shuffle to within your selection. It will instead shuffle everything. Sometimes. Sometimes if you do it by the remote it will keep it to your selection. By pressing various buttons it'll work sometimes. Really I just want to shuffle between 400 MP3s of one genre, not mix rock, folk, classical, and EDM after each other. Instead I have to hear it go through a folder of MP3s in alphabetical order, one subdirectory at a time. You either get alphabetical of one genre or you get shuffle of all. But let's talk about the elephant in the room. If you purchase this radio from Amazon, and it dies, you lose your warranty. My head unit died 100 days after installing. It would intermittently lose power and then failed to turn on completely. The installer knew immediately what the issue was and tried a firmware flash, and various changes. I called Pioneer and they had me ship it to a local repair facility. The repair facility noted it was purchased from Amazon and refused to do the work. Pioneer wouldn't cover the warranty unless it was purchased from an authorized dealer. Pioneer maintains this list ([...]) and also a list of dealers where the warranty is _immediately voided_ if purchased from, including Amazon. My Amazon purchase was through a third party who was also on this _immediately voided_ list. Amazon wouldn't take the radio back, Pioneer wouldn't take it back, and the repair shop wouldn't touch it. I was suddenly out a large sum of money over a defective head unit. I spoke with Amazon, pointed out the disparity of selling as with a warranty, but having that warranty voided, and was able to get a refund. All said, I went to my local installer to buy a replacement. It was an extra $70 but now I have a warranty. And because of the cost difference I downgraded to the AVH-X2700BHS. It's an identical radio but without HD Radio. Edit: The new radio started acting up within three months and, from what my installer told me, is a common issue among X2700 and X3700 units. When playing from USB the device suddenly started skipping, starting tracks at 30s in, warbling audio, and the background started animating in a whole new style we've never seen before. Radio and Disk worked fine, just USB was broken, even after switching out to new thumb drives and recreating databases. We had to schedule an appointment with the installer for them to reset the radio (with a small pen tip), which fixed the issue. We were also told by the installer that it was a common issue, that they do resets on a very regular basis.

Not a good unit for bluetooth connectivity
In general I like this unit but there are a few things I don't love. One is for Android users you have to pick if you want mirrorlink, AppRadio or USB. You can't use all three without changing the config. I also updated my firmware to add AppRadio and get performance improvements. Unfortunately they didn't do a great job on the QA, so my unit didn't come back up after it finished. I had to disconnect the battery to get it back. I think this is probably typical of their overall programming skills. The first unit I received had non-functioning rear channels, so buyer beware. You might have some exchanges to get it right. I think it's a value buy so expect to get it with that understanding and you'll be set. Overall the functionality works as expected. A few specific notes. I have a 2001 Toyota Highlander. I used the Microbypass to use the DVD without the parking brake, works fine. I installed the Metra 95-8202 Double din dash kit to cover the side gaps. While the unit will attach to the existing cage, the Metra din covers can only use one hole. Ultimately I don't think it matters as the unit is attached by three, but worth noting. I also used the Metra wire harness for toyota cars with the RCA cables, which I highly recommend. I have an HTC M8 Android phone and Mirrorlink works with the special (expensive) cable. Be aware that it's quite laggy and not that useful from my view but I could change my mind. I thought I'd get it to install it just in case as I didn't want to take apart my dash again. Wrong, the unit comes with a USB extension to plug into the back, and the specific cable plugs into that so it's not a problem to get the unit first, install it, and then try the mirrorlink if you think it's worthwhile. The latest firmware update added AppRadio and I think this cable is needed for that as well but like I said, you have some time for trial and error before buying the proprietary cable. Sorry, I can't navigate away to check on the model and such but if you're reading this you know what I'm talking about. Update 2/12: OK, I've been using this for almost a month now so I thought I'd update. The touchscreen is responsive and works well and the DVD playback has been great. I learned that if you have a Toyota (or other car with two Antennas) you can get an adapter for the smaller wire and a Y that will combine the two on Amazon... Worth it. Also, mine had an amplifier for the radio signal and I didn't get AM without it. Using the metra harness you connect the solid blue wire to the blue white wire and you're set. I am thinking about swapping this out for two reasons. One, there is static coming from the front right speaker. It's not loud but noticeable and I think it's a pioneer thing. It wasn't there before, so it's not my wiring. More importantly the bluetooth streaming doesn't work well with an HTC one M8. I did research online and have decided the problem is mostly HTC, but I've streamed to other head units and it worked fine. It's a sad statement that my phone is more expensive than this deck but true. For Mirrorlink I'd say don't bother. It's laggy, and if it's connected you won't be able to do Pandora. The UI kicks in automatically and it's really hard to use. I find I never use it and the cable just sits there. 4/8 update: Probably my last edit but some more details. The Bluetooth problem is definitely my phone. I suspect Pioneer isn't helping but it works fine with other phones. Android Auto doesn't work on this head unit. Probably fairly obvious to many but I thought I'd try just in case they snuck it in via the last update. You can bypass the UI for car mode, however it's not awesome with the lag. I'm bumping up a star as I do like the unit and the sound but I think the Mirrorlink / Appradio is quite buggy. 10/30/16: OK, another update. I'm removing two stars now as I really am beginning to dislike this unit. Until recently I blamed (partially correctly) my HTC phone, which as a sidenote I'll say is the worse phone I've owned. However, I am able to connect and stream from it on other devices, so the bluetooth of this headunit is definitely lacking. Samsungs and iphones via bluetooth seem to work better but it's definitely not a strong point for Pioneer. As a reminder, this is my second unit with exactly the same issue. I've gone to using an Ipod connected via cable and then connected to my mobile hotspot for pandora. What a shame. Definitely not the right purchase for someone who streams.

Works great after warranty work
Update* (8/22/16) After a warranty repair for a known issue with this unit,(I believe I was told it needed an upgraded processor and a single capacitor replacement) it now has been working as it should for months. I am happy to say that even though I had to wait a month for the repair (waiting on parts) I have been using this head unit daily without failure. Bluetooth calls are great and clarity on both ends is superior DVD's play wonderfully and the remote is useful for anyone watching in the backseat (children) I do not really use the remote myself for day to day driving and listening. Pandora is my main use and it works amazingly. Back up camera is also good (depending on the quality of your camera too) The camera switched to rear view when I place the car in reverse with a small delay. One issue for me is that it does not switch back to the radio when I out it in drive and have to manually close it. Minus one star for that only. (Initial review)* I do Love this head unit, but it does have connectivity issues. If you use Bluetooth forget changing a Pandora station. It will reload the stations page every time and takes a while to do so. If you use the wired connection its not so bad. let it be known that if you use the Bluetooth connection AND plug it in, it will not load any faster. If you use an Iphone the Pandora integration is nice, BUT, I and a lot of others according to reviews, Have the problem where it cuts out whenever it feels like it, Shows the E-(something) error and takes a little bit before it decides to reconnect. I now have an Android Galaxy Note 5 and I have not experienced any of the problems where it wants to stop playing, the downside is it doesn't have the same Pandora integration that iPhone had, but I believe its better this way. As far as my knowledge Android > iPhone for this HU. I don't use the remote, so no comment there. I did get a by-pass for the DVD's (for kids :D) and it works great. Next I will be getting the phone cable that I can run to the back to stream Netflix from my phone. (haven't tried it so not sure if it will work but seems promising). I am using the backup camera, Bluetooth mic for hands free, and navigation as well. All the features seem to be decent, but the navigation can be laggy. The Bluetooth mic is wonderful and clear (even with loud exhaust on my truck). The back up camera is nice but the unit does not seem to always want to switch to it when placed in reverse. I updated the firmware as soon as I received it to the latest stable release. This unit was paired with a Pioneer Class-D amplifier and two MTX 10's. The in depth audio control is nice for adjusting everything how I want it. Amp was tuned to roughly 34hz. Overall good unit, I believe it could use a beefier processor, and maybe a way to memorize your Pandora stations (for iphone at least) so it doesn't take 2+ minutes to change the station. Update: its been 6 months with this head unit and It has been crashing off and on, screen freezing, and now it wont even power on. I have to Pay to ship the head unit to a store verified by pioneer to fix it after calling and talking with support. From there they will try to repair it. I believe I have had problems with this unit since I received it and would rather get a replacement than wait to see if they can repair my already dead unit. If it can not be repaired they will send me another unit. The head unit was professionally installed by an audio shop along with the entire system I purchased with it. The head unit is the only thing giving me problems. I will be keeping the unit at 2 stars (instead of one) because when it did work (1st 3-4 months) it was nice. I will update as soon as I receive the refurbished or replaced unit. (hopefully replaced) I took a video of the unit cutting on and off and freezing and will upload that if I remember,

It still has that great old Pioneer sound! Great bargain.
I was skeptical at first, going from a Pioneer 9400MP unit I bought back in 2002/2003. $270 for a unit that does everything my old unit did (which I spent $600 on at the time) with the exception of the BBE processing and 14w RMS output - BUT has a giant display and can display DVDs, seems too good to be true. This went into a 2005 Subaru Outback LL Bean 3.0 (with dual climate controls, had to spend $$$ on a JDM faceplate and some extra wiring harnesses from ae64 dot_com.) I did have fitment issues with the faceplate of the Pioneer not fitting through the JDM faceplate, but I'm not sure if that's Pioneer's issue. So far I've been very happily surprised. The sound quality is ALL there. 3-way loudness, 13 band EQ and crossover networks, the HD radio seems like it's compressed (kinda like Sirius XM radio - which I refuse to listen to due to the terrible sound) - but it's very very slight - seems like it might be more noticeable the further away I am from the station, but I'm not sure yet. The new unit has 3 sets of 4v RCA pre-outs - good. I'm running on the internal amp right now. I was very skeptical of the 14w power output here, but now I'm reconsidering whether I really need to run a separate amp for my door speakers! Wired up with the MicroBypass and the Metra ASWC-1 steering wheel controls and everything worked perfectly right from the start. I like the non-motorized faceplate. The interface is a little clunky, but somewhat intuitive - it's not bad. The touch-screen is beautiful and does not glare. I had troubles getting it to read music files on a thumb drive, but I'll T/S that more later as I primarily use Bluetooth audio for music from the SD card on my Android phone (which it attempts to sync up with as soon as you turn it on which is nice, but annoying when it can't find it because it tells you it couldn't sync). Pandora on my phone synced up perfect. The mute doesn't entirely mute the sound, but it lowers it enough to serve that purpose. The color-matching buttons are great! You can really fine-tune the color. Turning the display off at night is nice. Being able to set the brightness of the display and the dimmer is great - but it doesn't change the brightness of the display as much as I'd like depending on what your dimmer dial is set at. Overall, I'm VERY impressed with this product - especially given the price!! I guess this is why there are no more car audio shops around anymore. I feel like I got more than what I paid for - in terms of sound quality and connectivity. Miles better than the OEM stock radio. Night and day difference.

Great radio with a few issues.
Since this is an ongoing review, I've decided to list my updates first and the original review last, so you can read my ongoing progress with this unit... Update 4/9/15 So I read another reviewer's review of this unit where he called me out on the loud AUI beep, saying that it was very quiet on his system. I surmised that since I have the Bose system in my Tahoe that maybe it was an amplification issue, so I contacted the tech support of the adapter I used, the PAC RP5-GM11, and they told me to change the inputs on their module so that it was configured to use an amplified system, and wala, the beep is now quiet - I would still prefer the option that my 3 other pioneers have, to be able to further adjust or turn it off completely, but now at least it is just a beep and not a BEEP! - So I have added two more stars back to my review. I'm actually thinking about buying another unit for my car now that this is resolved. Part of me is feeling a little guilty for having a slamming negative review of this BEEP for 3 months telling people I wouldn't buy this unit again when this really wasn't Pioneer's issue, but I did contact Pioneer tech support about this issue immediately and repeatedly saying how loud the beep was and never once did they even suggest this kind of issue, in fact they were pretty useless. Had they even said that the beep is supposed to be very quiet I would have come to it on my own, but they just said that the beep is not adjustable unless you bought the nav models, and that was it.. So I don't feel so bad. Update 3/16/15 So I saw that Android 5.0 has built in support for Mirrorlink which was VERY exciting for me, so I went through the ordeal of upgrading my s5, and Mirrorlink is indeed built in now, but sadly it still doesn't work with this unit :( I am not alone in this, I have read many other people say that the 5.0's mirrorlink will not work with Pioneer's head units. In fact, I would love to hear from *anybody* who has Mirrorlink working on any Pioneer headunit just to see if they've done anything special.. I've heard a few people with s3's and s4's have gotten it working, but it's very fragile and often crashes... On a good note, AppRadio and / or Live updated again and the sound is now working again, so that's a plus. I'm *really* hoping that Pioneer gets Mirrorlink working the way it's supposed to, that will really be great... Update 2/27/15 So I've removed another star from my rating down to 1 star. I still like the radio, but I've discovered another serious issue with it that is driving me nuts. I had been using Pandora exclusively because it was new to me to be able to use it in the car, and while using Pandora every so often it would "skip" or disconnect or pause or whatever, which I had assumed was an internet connection issue and not the fault of the stereo itself. Now I've been using my stored music more and I am still getting the same connection lapses. I use my phone with Bluetooth devices very frequently, including other car systems, where I have gone on multi hour trips with no disruptions, but this can happen several times in one song and it's beginning to get very annoying. I believe they know about the issue and are working to fix it because I believe Bluetooth connection issues were listed as fixes in the latest firmware update I performed, but alas they clearly aren't resolved. Hopefully they will fix this and I will update accordingly. I would love to start adding stars to this review instead of taking them away. Also, even though I don't really use it, the last update of either the firmware or AppRadio Live had a footnote that audio may not work on some smartphones, which apparently included my S5, so I can no longer listen to music when I have the AppRadio map up... Since I like Waze anyway, I don't use it, but it is annoying... Update 1/23/15- I figured out that some of the Bluetooth features won't work unless the phone is unlocked - so it was taking a long time / forever to load the contacts because the phone wasn't unlocked. Voice commands won't work unless the phone is unlocked... (you can just unlock the phone and it all works) I use an S5 with fingerprint authentication, so I don't know if you'd have this problem with just a swipe lock... Original Review: Let me start out by saying that this is a great radio, I really like it, but I'm giving it 2 stars for reasons I'll get into in a bit. So I really wanted to upgrade the radio in my Tahoe, and this head unit appeared to fit the bill. I was really looking for Pandora and Bluetooth, but when I saw the Mirror link features, I was really excited. I researched as much as I could before I purchased, but there really isn't a lot of info on the advanced smartphone features like Mirror link and App Radio... So I went ahead and ordered it, and installed it, and it looks, works, and sounds great. The visual customization wasn't a feature I was looking for, but it is good to get the lights to match your existing console lights, and thankfully, unlike 2 of my older Pioneer units, I was able to dim everything down so as to not light up the whole car at night, which is great. Also, while I haven't found the need to yet, there is a button that completely turns off the screen while keeping the radio working - I thought I would find it important to use this, but happily since the screen does dim well, I haven't found it necessary, but it is good that it's there... I also purchased a reverse camera, and I love that too, it works well with this radio and the screen is perfect to see everything. Now for the bad things... First and foremost, and this is the primary reason for the 2 star rating - there is an incredibly loud BEEP that blurts out every time you hit any button, it is loud and shrill and it SUCKS. Imagine driving late at night with soft music playing and your wife sleeping in the passenger seat, you change the channel and BLURT BLURT BLURT and everybody's awake. All of the Pioneers I have had in the past have had this, but they have been able to either turn them down or turn them off - this one is not adjustable in any way, Pioneer tells me that they only have that "feature" on the expensive Nav radios now. I came really close to ripping the whole thing out and returning it for this, but I'm hoping that eventually they'll realize their folly and release a firmware update to allow you to control it. Secondly - I can't get Mirror link to work whatsoever. I can't even download the app. I have tried with my s5, my s2, and I borrowed an s3 which is what they say will work, and you can't even download the "Drive Link" app. So, I don't know what the deal is with this, but try and ask Pioneer about it and they know nothing. Thirdly, this radio supports "AppRadio ONE" - which is the "newest" App Radio, but apparently the one that really doesn't work, at least not yet. The other AppRadio receivers I believe have an HDMI input and you basically use something like screen mirroring to get it to work, but this one doesn't have an HDMI port and instead everything goes over "one" cable - and nothing works with it except for the "App Radio Live" app, which is fairly stupid. My objective was to get Waze working with it, and the online page (while very limited in info) for AppRadio Live says that it works with Waze, but Pioneer says that AppRadio Live is for all the AppRadio modes and Waze will not work except on the older receivers. When I ask them what will work, they don't reply, which means to me that nothing works, which again sucks. And lastly, when I got this radio, it didn't even support App Radio, even though it said it did, but there was no documentation to talk about it and I assumed that the App Radio app worked over the Mirror link, which it doesn't. I spent several hours outside with my various phones trying to get some kind of response from the radio when I plugged in a phone, and nothing happened. Then I discovered there was a firmware update online that "enabled App Radio" - so the unit shipped to me claiming to be an App Radio really wasn't. When I downloaded the firmware and installed it, the radio rebooted on its own but froze up, I waited an hour before I disobeyed the instructions and killed the power, and then it wouldn't immediately turn on, so I figured it bricked, but finally it came back and then App Radio was there, yay - too bad you can't really do anything with it. So to sum up, I love this radio, but I wouldn't buy it again, or recommend to anybody to buy it unless they allow you to turn down or turn off the beep. Making mirror link or even app radio work as advertised would be fantastic too, but they are gravy and I'd still love the radio without them. On another note, while the Bluetooth works great, it takes a long time to load my contacts listing, and there is no txt message reading, but I can live with that too.

This is by far the best radio I've ever owned. It's great!! What I like about it is that all the features actually work and it sounds Fantastic. I have an iPhone and had no issues syncing my phone to the radio, it's pretty close to plug and play (I installed it myself). Easy install, great sound, lots of features, I can't think of anything else you could ask for - HD radio, BT streaming, CDs (if you still play those) AND DVDs! Wow!!!!!

worked great for a year...
A little hard to see sometimes because of glare, fingerprints clean off easy enough. Sounds awesome. Bluetooth is also Awesome. I bought two. It blows away the factory radio with Bluetooth in my Scion xB 2014, and adds a HUGE UPGRADE to my son's 2005 Accord that didn't have Bluetooth. ****Update**** Just after a year of use, the unit keeps rebooting or shutting down at random. Now I have to pay money to have it repaired. It seems to be a known issue. Why won't pioneer fix this? They probably used bad capacitors like Dell did a few years back.
