Great for deck garden - just add a bottom liner
Stacked two of these on my deck so the soil would be deep enough to plant full-size tomatoes and carrots, among a small sampling of other veggies. The parts slid together easily and look great assembled. The cedar smells good, too.A couple tips:Since the bottom is open to the ground -- or in my case, the deck -- I bought an inexpensive 2x9-foot clear plastic carpet runner to put underneath the raised bed. I left it out in the rain for a few days before filling to make sure water didn't pool beneath the plastic. It didn't. The runner has little plastic studs on the bottom that keep water draining nicely. I got the plastic runner off a roll in Home Depot's flooring department. Two stacked beds hold a lot of soil - like 30 cu. ft. - which is expensive if you have to buy it. To save on the soil, I put a bale of straw in each first, and am conditioning them using the Straw Bale Gardening method. Once they're conditioned (search online for straw bale gardening for instructions), I'll top with soil and compost prior to planting. The all-in cost is about 15% of what you'd pay for filling with all soil. Just be sure to get straw and not hay. Hay has seeds that will sprout along with your plants, whereas straw has had its seeds harvested.Small issue that Greenes resolved quickly: One out of the twelve units that the boards slide into was milled from a damaged block of wood. It held together, but I was afraid it would break over time. I emailed Greenes and they sent me a replacement for that piece the next day. Excellent customer service.

Fantastic kit for the price! Wouldn't choose anything else.
These are great. I ordered two of these 2x8 kits, and set them up this morning in an L shape. The assembly is super easy, and I would suggest having a rubber mallet handy. I could probably put both of the kits together on completely level ground in 20 minutes. Some of the other comments note that these aren't perfect kits, but I'd say this is worth the price and easier to assemble than most IKEA furniture. Also, remember this is meant to grow things and you fill it with dirt, so as far as I'm concerned, these kits are ideal. The L shape is not technically something you can build perfectly with two of these kits - one of the points doesn't connect to a post - but I used some verrrry heavy and ideally-shaped rocks to make it work. (You can see the rock in the picture.) Since taking that shot, I've filled everything in with dirt and it looks like this will work just fine.I took about two hours to assemble everything, which had nothing to do with the kit and everything to do with getting it level thanks to rocks and dirt and my own pickiness.

Easy to put together
UPDATED REVIEW (August 28, 2014): Well it's only been about 3 months and I'm sorry to say that one of the long wood pieces has buckled out, leaving a gaping space for the dirt and compost to slide ride out to the ground.I'm a bit distressed at this, as I have no idea what can be done to fix it, the piece will not be moved, it has created a bit of an arc and seems to content in that position and will not be moved to straighten back up.**************Instructions should be better. It simply said, make a box and slide posts in.I already had the 3 tier raised bed, which I purchased last year, so I knew how to put this together. However, since this one is a different size, much longer in length I anticipated 8 ft pieces of wood. That is not what was in there. It's actually 4 ft. pieces, so it's like 2 boxes put together. If the instructions had simply said that, it would have saved me some time in figuring it out on my own.Anyway, once you figure out what pieces belong to which side, you slide them into the posts -- you will however need a rubber mallet to get the wood all the way into the posts because all of the wood pieces are VERY VERY VERY roughly cut. Even after taking the end of my scissors and whittling away at the wood in the grooves of the posts, the sides did not slide in easily. But tapping lightly with a rubber mallet did the trick. The one I received last year had little starter holes at the top of the post caps, so I could stick the screw in and just affix it to the box with a screwdriver. None of the post caps they sent with this box had starter holes. And as they are kind of thick, I would need to get my drill out in order to attach them. After putting the box together and filling it up with rocks, dirt, compost and coir I was just too exhausted to start drilling, so I left the post caps off -- therefore the box doesn't have the finished look my other raised box does.It still looks decent though and I would buy it again for the price. My raised box from last year (which is also from the same company) held up pretty well through the brutal winter we had in NYC.

Great for the price! Looks good too!
To start, please take some of these previous reviews lightly. The product is great for the price. I put this together with my 5 year old "helper" in under 30 minutes. While most of the pieces fit together easily, some required a little bit of shaking and tapping with a mallet. I will say that the only "con" with this is that it is not overly sturdy so if you plan to move it, I would recommended taking it apart and reassembling it at the new location rather than trying to drag it or carry it. Overall, I am very happy with this product. And I will be buying more soon.
