I like it.
People who left bad reviews b/c they thought this book was about adoption piss me off. Just because you bought the wrong thing does NOT make this book bad. I Wished for You: an Adoption Story (Mom's Choice Award Recipient, Book of the Year Award, Creative Child Magazine) is about adoption. This one is not. Nowhere in the description of this book does it say adoption. You can't blame Amazon, the seller, the author, or the book itself - that was all you for not reading and making assumptions. All that being said, it is a good book. It's got a lovely jacket and very pretty wording on the inside. There should be more books like it that help a mother show her child how much they were wanted. My only complaints are that is seems a little scattered in some places, like how out of nowhere the baby bear asks the mama bear "We don't look alike. Is that okay?" - that part doesn't really make sense to me, and I don't really understand why it is in there, along with the crap about the boy wanting a lizard and what he did at school. It seems like the author may have ADHD. lol. But it is nothing that would deter a child from getting the message, I don't think.

This has all the elements that I was looking for in book for my son.
One of my top five! I wish I could give it 10 stars. This has all the elements that I was looking for in book for my son. It is positive, empowering, and loving. I am an older single mom, by choice, and wanted a book that would reflect my feelings and actions in creating my family. It even addresses that Barley, the cub, doesn't look like his mom and shows that he has a larger extended family and a smaller nuclear one.A couple of extra thoughts based on other reviews:Adoption/Donor: This is definately a book about IVF with a donor. While it doesn't go into the donor side, it is implied, and for me that is enough at this point in my son's life. I think it is just the right level of non-specific and could even be a full donor situtaion, with an egg donor also; it is just the right level to cover multiple scenarios.Religion: I am not reglious and tend not to like things that have a relgious feel, but I do beleive in G-d, and like the way it is positioned in the book. It is a book about wishing... and the wish being answered.

Love this book
I am a single mom and choose to have my son as a single mom. I wanted a book that told the story of how much he was wanted and how much I dreamt of having him some day. It's also hard to find books that aren't about Mom and Dad. I read this to him and it was so perfect. I plan to add a note to him on the inside cover so he can have this book forever and always remember how he is my wish come true.

Such a sweet book!
I started crying numerous times while reading this book. Perfect book for a single mom by choice and her little one. Doesn't go into details about conception, just how much she wished for him and that one page stating that families don't have to look exactly alike. I can't wait for my little man to get here so i can start reading him this book. Books feel high quality and the illustrations are precious.

Perfect for a single black mom of a biracial little bear
I love this book. I purchased it to help my son feel positive about being a little different from some of his friends in that I am a single parent with no contact with his dad who lives overseas. I love the fact that the mommy bear is brown and the baby is light brown.. this was a pleasant surprise that they spoke about in the book. It perfectly reflects our situation since my son is so light he is mistaken for being caucasian and that confuses people who assume Im not his mother because we look different. I believe this book will give him a tool to cope with these awkward situations.I really appreciate the thoughtfulness of this book, whether intended or not.

Our story
As a single mother who struggled with years of infertility, I've never read a baby book that hit all the emotions involved in my son's birth. This one does. I read it to him at least once a week, and I cry every time - and I am not an emotional person! I love when Mama tells Barley about how much and how long she wished for him; some of those were words I've uttered to my child. It's also beautifully realistic when she tells him that wishes don't come true all the time - but "don't ever stop wishing for the hopes of your heart." The delicate watercolor illustrations add even more beauty to the story.

I like the story though and I hope that as he ...
Very cute story, but also very long for young children. My infant son and I attempt to read this every night at bedtime and I think we have yet to get through the entire thing before he falls asleep. I like the story though and I hope that as he gets older and stays awake more we'll make it through the entire thing in a single sitting :)

Very Special Book
I bought this book for my 4 year daughter as a special Christmas present from Mommy. She loves it. After reading it for the first time, she said that she wanted it to be her new bedtime story. The young bear in the book is a boy in case that makes a difference to some people. The book could be a little long for very young children. Overall, we have really enjoyed it. It does a good job of explaining that special time before they arrive without providing information that is inappropriate for young children.

Good read for donor conceived child
Its a great book - doesnhave relgious tones (How God made him for her), but otherwise, talks about how mom decided to have him and how much she loved him, good for children of single mom, especially donor conceived and carried by mom.
