JET Benchtop 6" x 48" Belt & 9" Disc Sander, 3/4 HP, 115V 1Ph (JSG-96)

Very high quality sander. What I have come to expect under the JET brand. Tons of power, smooth and quiet. I have it connected to my central dust collector through the 4" port and it does a great job of keeping the dust at bay. I did have to return the first one I received due to damage in shipment. It's very heavy so suggest beefing up the packaging for transport.

No angle set on the belt. What's the point of NOT having one?

The first unit arrived with a horribly mis-machined (1/4 inch + of lateral runout!!) disc sanding platen!! I wonder how this ever made it through Jet quality control, or if they even have such a department. I sent it back, hopeful the replacement would be functional. I received that replacement today and am sorely disappointed. The second machine was better, with less than 1/10 of an inch of runout, which is still horrible. I am therefore sending the latest quality disaster back for a full refund (Amazon's service has been great, by the way). Tonight I searched for a replacement and decided upon the Shop Fox W1676. It has a more powerful motor, a closed base, and rave reviews. More telling was the fact that two of those reviewers had initially purchased the same Jet sander as I had, received multiple defective units, and finally decided upon a refund and the Shop Fox sander. They are happy now, just as I expect to be next week when my Shop Fox arrives I have received 6 different Jet machines within the past week (setting up a new woodshop) and prior to this experience returned one of another type (air filtration) because all of the accessory parts were missing. That corresponds to a 50% failure rate overall, which is shocking. As an engineer, I am astonished. Machining this poor, quality control this abysmal, simply does not happen in today's world - except at Jet. I am also very concerned, as I have 2 other Jet machines still in shipment that I cannot now cancel. Do more surprises await?

This is turning into one of my favorite machines in my shop. It's relatively quiet and makes quick work of jobs that used to take much more time and setup Lost one star because even though i have a 2 hp dust hose hooked up - this thing throws dust everywhere - PLEASE WEAR A MASK WHEN OPERATING. What a great addition to the shop...i consider this a "must have".

I bought this sander about a year ago. I have been disapointed with it's performance. The housing is plastic and the cast iron table mount into the plastic base lacks rigidity. this makes it hard to sand anything square considering the attractive looking table with it's 90 degree slots. The attachment bolts for the belt table are difficult to work because of he lack of clearance. You also have to remove the belt table in order to change the belt. In hind sight I would have bought a more exspensive sander with a cast iron base. Consider what plastic does if you were to sand metal. The graphite on the belt platten wore off right away. It seems a wasted addition.

EDITED - I tried multiple times to leave a review that reflected my actual experience with this product (disk wobbles so bad it's not usable and had to be returned), but each review was rejected as "not complying with policy". My original reviews had a 1-star rating because the product was defective and I gave a detailed description of the defect. No bad language or outside links or anything like that so I saw no reason for the rejection. Once I changed it to 5-star and typed some gibberish text it was accepted. Anyway, we'll see if this edit is accepted and then I'll come back and edit some more and see if it's possible to eventually work my way up to an honest review.

I thought this would be A heavy duty sander. When it showed up I was disappointed.All guards were Plastic.The disc sander table was not as sturdy as I thought it would or should be.It works ok but for the money it is pretty disappointing. This is not much better than the small portable bench top model I got rid of . I would think twice before I replaced this with the same.

I bought this same sander 10 years ago for my home shop. It's been a workhorse. When I set up a second shop at my vacation home I would consider nothing else.

The sanding turntable was so wonky it scraped the guide! It was 1/4" out of being flat. The manufacture wanted me to service it myself. I expected more from such an expensive purchase. Poor quality. I am now fighting to return it to a seller that does not have an address. Conclusion: don't buy from Amazon.
