Best Food You Will Ever Not Cook—Worth Every Penny and So Much More!
I have to tell you. I became aware of Urban Remedy on a recent trip to LA. In the Whole Foods in Playa Vista there was someone sampling the food (testing the market I guess). I tasted the “tuna” (of course no dead animals!” And bought 4 containers to take on my plane ride home and two chocolate puddings! I am telling you this is some serious food. So, when I got back I went to the website and researched offerings—my intent was to order her full on 5 day cleanse. Except....with my travel schedule blah blah the dates where I could be at home to receive the food were not working. So, I got the kindle version of the book. And this is one of those books that I am sure will be a dog eared fave—so I also ordered the hard copy. Meanwhile, I started the 4 day “home cleanse retreat!” Today was day one. Here’s what happened. This is some of the best food I have ever tasted! I am a 35+ year vegetarian. She I started people thought pasta and cottage cheese were a gourmet meal. I have literally a shelf of cookbooks—from the sublime to the ridulous. And—since my favorite Juliano’s is closed (Santa Monica) I wanted that quality of food (chef!) but without having to buy 83 ingredients. This author NAILS it! Today, I started out with the green drink. Perfect proportions and even took it some to church with me and some SERIOUS carnivores said, “that’s not bad!”. The apple/almond granola is sublime. If could eat that every day, all day and nothing else. She gets the “mouth feel” factor of food. People want to chew something! Yum. Then, I made the alkalizing broth. Made mine in the instapot. Haven’t tasted it yet (there is a lot of eating on this plan!) but it smells soooooooo good. I made the collard rolls for dinner (skipped the mache lunch—I just can’t eat that much even though I love mache!). Now, as I write this review I am winding down for my medicinal bath (which is already drawn) wrapping up with a castor oil pack ( a recommended “activity!” And then going to do some meditation before bed. And I may taste my broth before I doze off. I frankly get bored with food. I work, have a hubby, run a home and have a full life. I actually washed my veggies for tomorrow’s juice tonight. This is fun! I may do the “meal plan in the future” but I am so glad that I did the home version first. I am convinced that I can cook/eat this way into perpetuity. If you are serious about good food and good health—go for it. In full disclosure I already had a fully stocked vegetarian equipped kitchen. High end food processor, vita mix, dehydrator, spiralizer, etc. But with a good chef’s knife and a cutting board you can do everything this program requires. Can’t say enough about it. I’ll update after day 5 (I’ll probably go 9 days) on how I feel. Bon Sante and Bon Appetite!

Beautiful book and perfect for my New Year's resolution to be healthier! Finally someone has written a book that clearly outlines out a step by step plan to do a retreat-like cleanse at home. I have just completed the 4 days and cannot even begin to explain how amazing I feel. I have done cleanses and juice cleanses previously but have never found anything that laid out a plan like this book does. I am a believer that what goes into my body directly effects how I look and feel and the author does an amazing job of explaining the importance of the different foods and herbs that are extremely important in supporting our health. I love love love the recipes and even though these dishes are through the roof healthy they are completely delicious. I never felt deprived. I think that is one of my favorite things about this book are the recipes. My new favorite kitchen tool is my vegetable spiralizer and although I wouldn't say that I will never eat pasta again I am pretty happy with my zucchini pasta and marina sauce. Even my baby loves it.I am so excited to incorporate so much of what I have learned from this book into my daily life. Although I would love to do the 4 day cleanse every month- I think if I can do it every other month or even quarterly it will still be great for me- especially if I continue eating like this more anyway. I plan on using the recipes all the time and have referred back to the book so much already that its gotten dog-eared and stained in such a short amount of time. The author also sells her food products online which is awesome because there are some things that I would love to have stocked in my pantry all the time (think cheesy kale chips)! Here's to a healthier 2015!

No nutrition information?
No Nutrition Information?! This is a health food book without any nutritional breakdown of recipes. Why?!This causes an inconvenience and now I have to log each recipe item separately onto my tracking app if I want to log something from this book. I realize weight loss is not the focus here, but since 1990 the US government has required nutrition labels on packaged foods to help us all not become marshmallows. I also realize that the rules don't extend to cookbooks, however, that information is so basic and easy that the editor would have to literally spent just a minute or two extra per recipe to calculate it.Why not include such basic standard information?

I only write reviews if I really loved something or really disliked something and thankfully this book was the former! I bought the book after doing my own self-instructed 10 day cleanse. I was pretty miserable during the cleanse because I wasn't very prepared and didn't have a lot of variety in my diet, but by the end of day 10, I felt pretty darn amazing. My entire attitude about food and life seemed to shift for the better. However, it's easy to get sucked back into your old habits and routines, so I wanted to purchase a book that would be my guide for future cleanses. I had previously ordered food from Urban Remedy and loved every single thing I tried, so I knew I'd be in good hands with Neka's book. As others have said, it's a quick read but filled with useful information. I'm so excited to try out her 4 day cleanse before xmas!

I loved this book and read through it quickly
I loved this book and read through it quickly. I am a person who needs to be told exactly what to do regarding a cleanse and this book clearly maps out what you will need to gather before starting. All of the juices and recipes look and sound delicious and simple. Ive read other cleanse books that were just to complicated or required items that were not readily available from your natural food market. I love the supportive manor in which Neka writes as cleansing can be very intimidating/overwhelming. Im thrilled to have this as my go to guide to cleansing or anytime I just need a a boost in living more vibrantly. Thanks Neka!
