Drop G Bass Tuning
I’m a bit of a metal head so I play metal at home and with my bands. My nut needed to be sanded down as I knew when I bought it because going from a .105 to a .170 is a large step. I put on some orange nickel di’darrio strings, or however you spell it just to keep the same general tone of strings. Pretty steep price but the combo was 48$ instead of the 60$ that Dingwall and others sell it for. I figure it costs so much because it’s wrapped 3 times instead of 2 and it’s a special order. I think it was a good investment for me.

Game changer.
I’ve had the same string in for about 5 months I don’t play five strings a lot but when I do I need the string to not be floppy like most bass that are with 34 inch scale length. The 145 is exactly what is needed for that b string it’s so clear and sounds great super thick with that string. The thing that makes it different tho is the taper at the end it makes for easy string change and a set up for super low action could not do this with out it. Will purchase again if I ever need to haha. It seems the thicker the string the longer it last for.

No more floppy 5th strings!
The XLB145T is now my go-to 5th string for my Sterling By Music Man S.U.B Ray5. I tune it to B and use with the EXL170BT balanced-tension 4-string set. This combination enables me to tighten up the low B-string for more-consistent pitch while slightly lowering the total tension on the bass compared to an EXL165-5 set. The XLB145T tension tuned to B is very close to the tension of each EXL170BT string tuned to standard pitch. Plus, the tapered ball end makes for easy string changes.

Dies kinda quick but if your buying a 145 its probly cause your low tuned and theres not many alternatives. Works but dead after 2 sets

The tapered ball end made such a massive difference. ...
The tapered ball end made such a massive difference. I was able to set up my bass properly finally. Many issues I had regarding low B are no longer evident. I will not ever buy un-tapered B string again.
