It’s a great TRUE story
I am a big fan of Bob. I followed the story of him and James over the years and was so saddened by his tragic death. I bought this for my g babies who loooove books. She really adored this story and I had to read it to her over and over again. There is one part of the story where Bob looks in a puddle to see what he looks like and my little granddaughter just loves that part and asks “ why is he sad”? It tugs at my heart. But luckily it has a happy ending with pictures of the real Bob and James which helps her relate that it’s a true story about a real cat. She really loves this story.

Beautiful Book with a Beautiful Story and Ending
Our little girls have always been interested in mommy and daddy’s books with the orange cat on the cover. Being nine and seven, they are far too young for A Streetcat Named Bob, The World According to Bob, and even the young adult No Ordinary cat. With the publication of My Name is Bob, however, they finally have a Bob book to call their own. The book details how Bob became a street cat, how he wandered looking for a friend, and how he finally met James leading to a lifelong happy friendship. First off, I can’t say enough about the beauty of the illustrations that really bring Bob, James, and their environment to life. The book is very positive and fun! In addition to the quality art work, the book does include real life photos of our two heroes at the end. The book is just the right length for kids and easy for them to read and hold. Our girls have read and re-read the book several times since the book arrived on Thursday. When they are older, they will inherit our other Streetcat Bob books and we will be able to have frank discussions about homelessness, addiction, and ultimately redemption but for now we (and they) are thrilled they can share in this remarkable story at their level. Thanks for thinking of your young fans James and Bob!

The most amazing story you will read.
Look up more about Bob and his friend. I loved this story, coming from nothing with the love of a cat, growing past the things that would hold us back in the world. I just can't say I love the author, and his friend Bob, enough. I know Bob is not on earth anymore, but he is watching over you and all of us struggling to believe in hope too. What a merry Christmas to you both. I hope the author finds this comment, and I hope he knows how much his story and Bob's story means.

Bob's Story
I got this for my great-nieces for Christmas -- that gives me six months to enjoy the beautiful Bob art that illustrator Gerald Kelley did. I loved Bob from the first video I saw of him high-fiving with James. Tears sprang into my eyes, it so reminded me of my cat Louie (a ginger tabby also) who had recently passed away. I knew what a close bond one can form with these guys. What if anything, would I want to see different about this book? A bit more text, more story. But then, since it is directed at a very young crowd, I suppose the parents fill in when the inevitable questions are asked. Really though the illustrations are so captivating, I feel they balance any perceived lack on the written side. So if you love the story of Bob & James, get this for youngsters in your life, it is a great story for them to connect to, of compassion, caring and commitment.

A wonderful story of how love and kindness can be rewarded beyond anything you could have imagined
I have read all the adult Bob and James books starting with Bob the Streetcat which I originally bought for my daughter. I also have Where in the World is Bob (signed copy) although it could really be considered a children's book. For those who don't know who Bob and James are they are an inseparable pair who found each other when both needed a friend. James' small act of kindness to a homeless cat (Bob) changed his life for the better when he was struggling to overcome drug addiction. Bob and James' story is a touching story of the way love and companionship can change a life. Although in this book Bob's life before meeting James is only imagined the story is used to tell, through Bob's feelings, how it must feel for homeless people to be lonely and friendless and struggling to survive on the streets of a big city. I will be giving a copy of this book to my church for use by any visiting children attending the service. (Our minister is a great Bob and James fan too).

My Name is Bob - WONDERFUL!
I had read 'A Street Cat named Bob' and had told my five year old grandson something about how James found Bob. He was very interested and months later asked me about it again, so I looked to see if there was a children's version I could buy for him and found 'My Name is Bob'. When the book arrived from Amazon I quickly read it through, and it brought tears to my eyes. It is a beautiful book in every sense of the word. I am very much looking forward to reading it to my grandson, and some of it he will be able to read himself, as he's a pretty good reader for his age and the words are mainly simple and the text large. The illustrations are just perfect! It's a lovely large picture book too - approx 11.5 inches x 9.5 inches. I'm sure my three year grand-daughter will adore it too. You won't regret buying it. There is some info and photos of James Bowen with Bob at the back.

General Review
Slightly different to the full version for obvious reasons. It's clearly aimed at primary kids KS1/2. It starts off with Bob's owner being ill and going off in ambulance. Then Bob starts his adventures. I think it's a shame the areas of London are not mentioned for learning and also I don't think enough attention is paid to how Bob wrenches at James' heart to take pity on him and where he follows him unknowingly. I think this book could have been put into poetry for kids. I'd love to do that! I also think it could do with a few adverbs mentioned (quite easily) that aside, I like how the cover has been made in different textures, I think 3 starts is valid for its review. It could have been better. Without the original story, the picture book would be nothing.

My Grandson loved it.
My 7 year old Grandson's teacher used it as part of his online literacy lesson, he enjoyed it so much I bought it him. He has read it several times - to every member of the family who have also enjoyed it.(Slight word of caution - As he enjoyed it so much we started watching the film with him before checking the rating, good job he needed to go home after 10 minutes into the film. Brilliant film but not as sweet and child centred as the book )

A really beautiful book
I have all of James Bowen's books, both hard copies and on my Kindle. I was going to get this for my paperwhite Kindle but so very glad I got a physical copy instead. I read the reviews that the pictures did not download and totally understand after getting the book how it just would not work on Kindle. Its so beautifully illustrated and the story, although meant for children, totally touched me. I got a second copy for my nephew who is nearly six. He absolutely loves it as he can read it with help and loved looking at the pictures. It allowed us to talk about some issues as well, like Nanny getting older and stray cats and being kind. For anyone looking for a lovely, thought provoking, sweet story to read to their little ones, you surely cannot get better!
