Wow! Germinated in a few days!!
It germinated & grew in 3-5 days & continued to sprout more & more. I’m impressed. I have an area that just does not like to grow anything — I’ve tried grasses, various seed mixes, watered … ground has high quality of clay … but this ground cover seed, took off like nothing else I’ve tried. And in only a few days; it had a very high percentage of germination rate. Needless to say, I quickly ordered 2 more bags!!! Great ground cover !!!

Grows, but not in challenging areas.
Sprouted, grew a bit, but didn't seem to make it through winter in my soggy backyard. Probably wouldn't buy again for the purpose of having groundcover in challenging areas, which is what is seems to advertise itself for. It did grow and survive in a sunnier, drier, and less travelled area.

Started growing fast!
I started growing last week, the day I received it. I'm excited to be able to feed my chickens greens during the winter

Best Chicken Fodder Mix!
We created a “grazing box” (with a wire top so they don’t scratch the dirt) for our chickens to grow grass/fodder. I’ve pregerminated and grew tall fescue that worked well during the summer…but I really LOVE this mix. It’s way cheaper than the turf grass seeds I get (for the yard) plus it’s a great mix for the chickens (clover, ryegrass, etc). The clover and ryegrass grow quickly and the chickens are loving it! I will continue to buy/use this seed blend for them!

Great Concept, But Poor Germination in Our Plot
I was very excited to receive the Barenbrug Free Range GroundCover Forage Seed Mixture, as I'm always looking for ways to enhance a natural groundcover area on my property. The Potential is High: Barenbrug is a reputable brand, and the concept behind this specific blend—creating durable groundcover—is fantastic. The packaging was professional, and the seed mixture looked fresh and varied, promising a robust, diverse plot of natural groundcover. The instructions for soil preparation and sowing rate were clear and easy to follow. The Growth Issue: Unfortunately, despite carefully following the preparation and watering instructions for a designated outdoor area, the seed really didn't grow as expected. We prepared the soil properly, ensuring good drainage and sufficient sunlight, but saw extremely poor germination. Where we hoped for a thick carpet of forage, we only got a few sporadic, weak shoots. We tried scattering a second application in a separate, smaller test patch, but experienced the same disappointing results. Final Thoughts: I’m highly disappointed in the performance, as the intended use for this product is ideal for groundcover applications. I still rate the idea and quality of the seed mix itself (before planting) positively, but the actual germination rate makes it hard to recommend based on my experience. I will hold onto the remaining seed and maybe try again in a different season, hoping my batch was perhaps an outlier or that different environmental conditions might yield better results.

Good chicken scratch ground cover
Good germination and pretty good growth as well. Have used four or five times now and no complaints.
